This is a story told in photos about a boy who tested his limits, and a girl rolling her neck saying ’no you di’-int!’ when said boy crossed that limit:
I am putting it out there. I am on the fence about a few things when it comes to my bridesmaids’ dresses. I mean… I know that I have written about them SO MUCH, but it is one of my biggest stresses. I want the look to be “right” and I want the girls to be comfortable. I have given my girls a chance to choose, and if there was one dress that they loved the most, that would make my life much easier. But they are all so easygoing and wonderful, and they want me to decide! So, here are the two dilemmas.
SHORT VS. LONG
We’re having an evening (5PM) wedding in the Fall (October) at a winery. I could go with either short or long dresses.

STFU, Marrieds is a site where couple’s Facebook friends screen shot their pages and send them to this site. Most of the pics are of couples using Facebook to communicate with each other and publicly post on each others walls, etc.

I’m not gonna lie, I find some of the posts funny. Everyone has their own PDA boundaries, and mine include Facebook.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Our invitations, that is!!
I just got back from the post office. I asked if I could hand cancel the envelopes and the woman looked at me like I was a bit crazy. She said the machine would do that, so I just decided to hand them over.
Here’s a sneak peek of all the invites stacked up:
While our invites weighed less than an ounce, they were square, so they cost more in postage.

Finding our photographer was a high priority soon after we were engaged. Ironically — and perhaps fortunately — I wasn’t yet aware of the wide world of wedding and photography blogs when we began our search. (I can’t imagine how overwhelmed I would have been!) At the time, I relied on two resources: the local message boards on The Knot, and Sister Bruschetta (who was married a few months before).
Having recently received her wedding photos, Sister Bruschetta sent along a couple teasers, hoping to nudge me to set an appointment with her photographer, Cindy Patrick.

The dinner game hijinks were a hoot and we were still on a high from them when someone motioned to us that it was time for cake. Yippee! We both LOVE cake!
If you will remember, when we met with the wedding coordinator upon our arrival at the resort, I was well prepared and not only handed her these two photos, but also some purple ribbon as well, which I’d bought back home.
Knowing that things at destination weddings don’t always turn out exactly as you imagine them, I didn’t expect our cake to look exactly like those photos.

However… well… have you ever been to that site Cake Wrecks? It’s a self-described “gallery of deformed, distasteful and bizarrely decorated wedding and birthday cakes”.
I think we may have something to submit.

Makeup, makeup. What to do about wedding day makeup? I can either go with something a little more natural, or I can go with something a little different. My initial thought was to do something different.
I’m already wearing a short dress and yellow shoes; why not complete the look with something a little more daring on my face? Something like this?
All photos below by The Wiebners unless otherwise noted. We purchased a disc of all unedited images from our wedding day, so some post-processing has been done by me for the purpose of sharing the photos with you. Click on any photo to enlarge.
As we were making our way back from our portrait session, the Garden Room at The Desmond was all set up for our cocktail hour. If guests arrived a bit early, they were greeted with this sign:

Being a May bride, my original floral plan was to go with white peony centerpieces. I reasoned that they were the perfect choice, considering that they are large blooms and are (usually) in season on our date, making them not only beautiful, but economical.
This ultra simple and beautiful arrangement has been my main inspiration image for centerpieces. The image is from Bridgewater Gardens, a great resource for fresh cut peonies that is a mere 30 minutes from our house! Unfortunately, our wedding weekend is a bit too early for them. Since our wedding date is at the very beginning of peony season here, our florist asked me to come up with a back up flower, just in case.
I decided that white tulips would be a great substitution.

After hours of brainstorming, collecting inspiration pictures, playing around in Adobe Photoshop Elements, hunting down iStock images and Photoshop brushes, testing papers, experimenting with different fonts and colors, shopping for envelopes online, second guessing myself, designing, printing, spending a lot (and I mean a whole lot) of quality time with a paper trimmer, rubber stamping, handwriting addresses, stuffing, sealing, and stamping, our invitations were dropped off at the post office yesterday afternoon!

Here’s Mr. DE carrying the box of all the invites into the post office.
I have to admit that all day yesterday before our mail station visit, my stomach was filled with butterflies. Partly because I think I finally had my “ah ha” moment where I realized that this whole getting married thing is actually happening. Something about putting the invites in the mail made everything seem real and official.
I’ve been meaning to show you some pictures of the jewelry I picked out to wear on the wedding day. I wanted a bigger bracelet, but nothing too trendy. I picked out a few cuffs, but decided those would fall more in the trendy category. I think this bracelet from Macy’s is perfect, and it’s definitely something I’ll wear again.

Since the stones are oval, I thought my earrings should have a similar shape, but I couldn’t find any earrings with oval stones.

Dress hunting, for me, was rather challenging. Santa Fe has a limited selection of bridal stores (basically just David’s Bridal and a few dressmakers). Because I grew up in LA and love boutiques, I craved something similar for trying on dresses—and I wanted my best friends there as naysayers should the dress I like be completely hideous. So, I had to base my dress hunting around trips home (to LA), or to any major city, for that matter. Albuquerque, an hour away, didn’t suffice here, either.

So, when Mr. CB and I went back East last September to go venue hunting and to celebrate our engagement with our families, I convinced him to make a stop in a ritzy little town called Saratoga Springs, NY. I’d done a little research beforehand and, while I would be by myself at the store, I figured it would be a good first try (with my camera in tow).

I feel like an equally fitting name for this post would be “Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems”. See, there’s a reason I haven’t talked much (at all?) about finances or budget before this post. We had a budget, to be sure, but no matter what number we set, it kept changing, morphing, and growing as we planned our wedding.
My rationalization, of course, was that this is was once-in-a-lifetime event, and even if we ended up spending more than we thought we would, we’d be OK. I felt like rather than trying to scrimp and save to make every penny fit within the confines of a single number, that being realistic meant understanding that our budget was an estimation, and we would probably overshoot it.
I think you can see where I am going with this. Things add up fast. We definitely haven’t dug ourselves into a hole, but we spent way more than we intended.
{O hai, I can haz budgets?}
About three months into our two-year engagement, when we first started planning our wedding, I envisioned a gorgeous, country-chic affair that would cost us no more than $12K.
