Hair and Makeup Trial

March 2nd, 2009 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Crab Cake

Today I was supposed to take my bridal portraits with our photographer, Kristian. Unfortunately, she went into pre-term labor a few weeks ago, and has been stuck on bed rest since. I feel for her; I could not tolerate bed rest. She and the baby are doing well, and she’s no longer in labor.

So, I had already scheduled my hair and makeup trials for today and I went anyway.

I had a little printer malfunction (no colored ink) and wasn’t able to take any inspiration photos to my hairdresser. But, I was able to verbalize what I wanted, and I think she did a pretty good job.

‘Sup? Here I am with no makeup… eew. Solid proof that I love the Hive.

So, there’s the hair. It’s not as vintage as I wanted, but I love it anyway.

And the makeup. I think my eye makeup is a little lopsided. That’s okay, it’s just a trial. This was a great experience, and I’m certainly glad I did a trial. She listened to everything I had to say about what I thought I wanted. It felt a little heavy, but I think it was because I was wearing jeans and t-shirt and it made me feel like I had too much on.

As I sit here writing this post, I’ve napped on that hairstyle and I’ve cleaned house in that makeup and it’s all (mostly) still there. Mini CC’s response when she saw me this afternoon was, “Mommy, you look gorgeous!”

Excellent…

So, what do y’all think? Vintage enough?

I love the hair, but the make-up is definitely a bit heavy. Why so much eyeliner?

I love the hair too! But I’m not so fond of the eye makeup. I think it could be a lot softer.

I think you look beautiful! The hair is very soft and natural. I agree with you about your makeup feeling heavy because you are wearing jeans. In your dress, I think you will look very glamorous. Glad you had a good experience!!

I love the hair too! Your makeup is great even though the eye shadow seems really heavy, but it could really be because you are in tshirt & jeans right now.

I think the heavy eyeliner is great and a definite throwback. The red lipstick really adds to the vintage glam. Your hair is so pretty!! Great short-do up-do!! I love that your daughter loved it!!

I think the shadow just needs a bit more blending up top, other than that everything looks fab!
Love the hair!

Your make-up looks great!
I have a hard time with make-up…I feel like it is always too heavy.
But I realize that we need it like that so we will photograph well

I think you look great and I think it will look FAB in your pictures!

i think the lighting and angle might be making your eye makeup look darker than it is.

I loved the hair…I’m using it as inpiration for my own style. (grow, grow grow!) I’ve got a couple inches to go still.

I agree with a lot of the ladies. The eye makeup is a little too dark. I think that with the lovely color of lipstick and the blush, that all you need is a light gold shimmer. It would make your eyes pop. On a more positive note, your hair looks great!!

Aren’t little ones the best. I think it might be the angle but you are right that your eye makeup looks loopsided. Also it doesn’t look like you used flash. Just remember that on camera it will look different.

I don’t think your photos are giving us a very good representation. Taking a photo of yourself inside your car is giving you very heavy shadows above your eyes. It makes your eye makeup look MUCH darker than it probably actually was. If you were to take the exact same photo standing outside, we would be able to see what it looks like much better.

I’m loving the hair! And I think you’re spot on with the makeup…put on your dress, some fancy shoes and it’ll fit right in!
