Invitation Inspiration

March 2nd, 2009 @ 6:32 pm by Mrs. Piglet

Mr P and I engaged in a think tank session this past weekend, brainstorming ideas for our invitations. How it works: I compile boatloads of pictures from the internet, and shove them in his face. He likes it. He’d rather me whittle down the choices to a select few, and contribute his two cents at the end.

All of the imagery below, I pulled from Flickr. The Flickr community never fails to impress. Using ‘wedding invitation yellow’ as my search criterion, I was presented with hundreds of ideas at my fingertips. And with one click of the mouse, I started hopping from one gallery to the next. Here are certain elements we hope to incorporate in our homemade invitations. I’m very much a visual person, so I add some color to each image to gain a better sense of the concept with our colors included.

I’m a huge fan of the graphite/yellow combination. Although slightly straying from the Save the Date colors (black/yellow on white cardstock, and teal envelopes), it’s close enough. We’re considering using graphite colored envelopes with yellow/white polka dot liners. I attribute my polka dot obsession to the Melissa Sweet Dora dress (Swiss dot organza). When considering that dress, too many polka dot ideas flooded the brain, many of which, I still think about.

Again, our colors, with a splash of Tiffany blue.

But, I love the look of white/yellow text printed on darker cardstock.

The picture RSVP card is just too much fun. Yellow borders coupled with the black and white photos make a nice addition to the invitation theme. Where’s the Tiffany blue? Maybe on the ribbon, as pictured in the first image.

So there you have it… our invitation in the making.

Where do you look for invitation inspiration? Did you find an invitation set that collectively hit the mark? Or, did you pick and choose different elements from different designs?

I love the way you get FI to make choices. That is what I found works best for mine also! I love it. I also love your invitation ideas so cute. I love the polka dots, black and yellow. I can’t wait to see them..

Flickr and google pictures are the two places I can’t seem to live without.

I am a google queen…so I type in as you did “green wedding invitation” or “brown wedding invitation”. Also I search by our wedding them “perfect pair wedding invitation”.

I agree the lighter colors against the darker card stock is perfect. It gives the invite a nice pop!

I LOVE the Photo Booth RSVP card, TOO CUTE! CityBoy only likes to be involved in the logistical stuff…he doesn’t care what the invites look like, but he cares when they go out…so weird!

I just love that third one. I’m overflowing with endless invitation/paper ideas. I’m not sure how to narrow it down.

ooh i really like that second one, with the swirly bits. Tres chic! We’re getting married in London, and I was so excited to find really cute London invites on Hello Lucky. The RSVP card has a drawing Royal Guard with his bearskin hat on, and it’s the cutest thing in the world. We wanted to choose something that would get people excited about coming to London (and maybe make them think less about the price of the plane tix!). Good luck with picking out your invites! They’re all great choices, so you can’t go wrong

I adore the picture invites. Hands down. I’m not even going to elaborate on that one, there’s no need. Okay maybe I will. Personalized, relatively easy and would probably be pretty cheap, a great way to show how much fun you have as a couple… It’s awesome, to say the least.

I love that top one with the polka dots and the ribbon! my fiance and i operate the same way with wedding planning - I compile the choices/whittle it down and he gives his opinions in the end.

OMG I LOVE the yellow, lavender, and black scrolling on the invitation. So beautiful. And I really like the photo RSVP idea. I don’t think it’s too fun.
When I made my own invites I found my inspiration by just strolling through arts and crafts stores and using my imagination.

Oh these are super cool invites!! Our inspiration was really just in our heads…we had nothing to work off of because Mr. BF and I are so different in what we wanted the invites to reflect. However, we did take the wording from the internet!

hahaha I love the photo RSVP card! Such a great idea I think that would be super fun if you could incorporate that idea. These are all fun and go great with your colors. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Weddingbee[dot]com has been my main source of inspiration and I thank you all for that :)
That last rsvp is definitely a unique one, I love it but I’m pretty sure my FH wouldn’t go for something like that - I’m the bigger goof in the relationship ;)

That RSVP is a cute take on the photo booth styles I see everywhere for STDs. It’s clever and very cute!

I used a few different invites for invitations. One for the graphics, a couple for their fonts and some others for the layout style and wording choice.
