About Mrs. Martini

My Last Fitting

March 2nd, 2009 @ 11:41 am by Mrs. Martini

As I’ve mentioned before, I got lucky when it came to my dress. It was already made - a cancellation - and it was a perfect fit. I even got a great deal on the price to fit within my budget AND I got to take it home right away. It was pretty early on in our wedding planning when this happened, so for months it hung in the door of my parents’ walk-in closet. I have to admit, I tried it on more than a couple of times at first. I couldn’t help it - it just felt awesome stepping into it! But then eventually I lost interest in the dress as I gained interest in junk food. When I tried it on again months later, I was a sad sight to behold.

How bad, you ask? A good friend provided me with her corset to wear under my wedding dress. She’s super tall and thin, so when I held it up in front of me I didn’t think there was any way in hell that I would be able to fit into it. I didn’t want to risk not being able to close it during my fitting and totally embarrass myself, so I asked Mr. Martini to help me try it on the night before.

A few minutes later, as I stood in front of the mirror horrified, Mr. M tried to make me feel better.

Me: oh. my. god.
Mr. M: You know what? *cough* It’s really not that bad… at least we got it to close…

He then proceeded to take two fingers to try and tuck my fat back into the corset. I wasn’t just spilling out, I was pouring out!

(MR. MARTINI PLEASE DO NOT READ FURTHER)

The last straw was when I was told during the fitting that the dress would look a lot better on me if I lost “just a few pounds”. After that I was motivated. I worked out almost everyday. I ran races, including a half marathon. I actually would have ran two half marathons but I hurt my neck the day before the race. I trained with a personal trainer. And I pretty much cut out my one true love - carbs. I had just one month to lose 10 pounds.

Well, I didn’t get to lose 10 pounds, but I did lose a few. I went in for my last fitting a couple of weeks ago, and I was excited to see that I was able to fit a little better into my dress, although it was still a bit tight. At this point, brides are usually told “not to lose any more weight” so they don’t run the risk of not fitting into their dress properly. I was told that a couple more would be beneficial to me. LOL!

It was definitely a close call, but I am happy that I’m in a good place weight-wise, with a little less than one month to go. I’ve got time…. (right?)

So without further ado, below is my completed, altered dress!

z18531701
I had the top altered into a sweetheart, and I have to say that it completely changed the dress. I love it much more! So much, that I’ve decided not to wear a sash during the ceremony. Instead I will be wearing a purple sash (made from the same fabric as the BM dresses) during the reception.

z18531702
I was excited to be trying on my shoes with the dress. I was very happy with the look.

Now that I’ve decided to wear a sash only during the reception, I have another dilemma. Help me choose!

Do I wear my sash…

z18531703
on the side?

z18531704
Or on the back?

I think I like it to the side best, but without a frontal view of you with the sash in the back, I can’t be 100% certain.

I like it in the back…. the dress is so simple and beautiful. the bow in the front draws eyes there instead of your beautiful face and figure.

I also think on the side (clear winner so far) but it looks great at the back, too, so if you really love that one then go for it! And the losing weight thing - Pfah! You look stunning.

The sash on the side is really pretty, but wonder if it’ll be a little busy with a bouquet. Both side and back are a winner in my book though. You look beautiful.

I am gonna say side. You are wearing during the reception which is fun party time and with the sash on the side it is really cute. If you were wearing the sash for the ceremony I would say back to keep it simple, but your not, so sash on the side!! You look so beautiful!!!

you look gorgeous right now. honestly, you will probably lose ~10 lbs the week of the wedding from stress alone. if you really want to lean out, just cut carbs and drink a lot of water this month—easiest way to lose short-term.

side sash looks hawt! how does the back sash look in front?

I think the back bow might compete with the pick-ups in the back. With it on the side, the hanging ribbon doesn’t obscure the pick-ups on the side. But, its also super cute :)
P.s. I think you look great! The Dress doesn’t look too tight on you, but it’s all about how you feel in it that matters.

I love the bow on the side! For those that say it would compete with the bouquet…if she’s just wearing the sash for the reception, she probably won’t be carrying around her bouquet all night. Just a thought.
Also, the dress doesn’t look too tight, but if you don’t feel comfortable where you are at, good luck with shedding the last few pesky pounds!

For the record, I don’t see how you could lose any more weight! You look great, and the dress appears to fit perfectly, even if you feel a bit squeezed.

As for the sash, I’ll go with the grain, but I also kind of like it for the ceremony too. In fact, if it were me, I’d wear the bow in the back for the ceremony and re-tie it on the side for the reception.

Either way, you’ll look fabulous!

I’m a junk food junkie too, so I can definitely sympathize with the dress dilemma! I have to say, though, that you look LOVELY in it!!

Also, I vote for wearing the sash tied in the back, but tied the way it was in the “on the side” picture.

It looks great both ways, but I agree with everyone who said it might look busy with a bouquet. I don’t think it should be a problem (there are busier dresses out there!) but maybe you can take a look at how it looks with a bouquet in the size you plan to hold.
I know you don’t plan to wear it for both, but it would be super cute to switch the sash from the back for the ceremony to the side for the reception.
