Please, Step Into Our Booth!

March 2nd, 2009 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Taffy

I am very excited that we have made the decision to have a portrait booth at our wedding! Including the booth at our reception was something that we had discussed early on with our fabulous photographer, A Girl in Love, but we did not make the decision until this week. Melissa posted a cute “kissing booth” entry on her blog that reminded me to bring it up. :) Michigan brides, check out the entry for details on a portrait booth special!

Here is my favorite shot from the “kissing booth”

The lipstick marks in this shot are adorable.

We are so excited to have fun, candid pictures of all of our friends and family during our celebration! We do want to make sure that people are aware of the booth, and more importantly, that they use it! We can set it up in our reception room, but there is also a smaller adjacent room that we can use if we like. The smaller room would be more private for our guests, but we don’t want the location to be so private that they will forget about it or not know it is there.

We are definitely going to ask Melissa for her professional opinion on the location, but I would also like to ask the hive for booth location tips, and the best ways to make the guests aware of this fun activity. We will have a DOC that can help spread the word, which is great.

I am excited to see the pictures of our awesome guests, but I am also super excited to get Mr. Taffy into the booth! ;)

What tips do you have to share to promote portrait booth usage? As guest, what has been the best part about a portrait booth?

We plan on setting up a DIY photobooth at our reception too. We’re going to hang fabric for the backdrop and just set up my DSLR on a tripod with a remote. We’re going to have it in a seperate area, but also put up a sign next to the guestbook reminding our guests. I’ll also have people spread the word. I’ll probably also mention it myself as we make our way through the crowd. We’re only having 70 people so I dont think it’ll be a problem lettting people know about it.

We put outs next to the bar, where most people tend to hang out and socialize if not at their tables or on the dance floor. After a few drinks, some friends started taking pics and other guests followed after observing the fun. Setting it up next to the bar was definitely a good idea.

I say you can never underestimate the importance of signage - super cute idea!

We are doing a photo booth too. We will also have a white board where friends can write messages, well wishes, or advice, and take pics with it. Kind of like “when Harry Met Sally” interviews in still form. I think it will be fun, and silly. I can’t wait

We are putting it on either the bottom of our menu as a little “p.s.” or on the tag of our favor to stop by! I’ve also thought of the idea of making a cute little framed message to have at the bar to get people over there as well.

@Soon2BeeMrsLewis: That’s a great idea, S2BMLewis! I was just going to have the DJ announce it or something…

Very nice photo. :)
The photograph is great. He put the background and the lipstick like parts of the same portrait.

I’m still debating if we should have a photobooth or not - I want it so badily but I feel like it’s going to be pricey… :-/

What about a cute sign pointing toward it with a small set of examples? Nothing gets people going like stealing others’ ideas!! LOL

@MightySapphire: Great idea!

I think I’m going to make MOO cards with “photobooth” pictures of us and leave them around the tables, bar area, etc.

We went to a recent wedding with a photobooth. It was SO much fun! It was placed in an obvious place near the cocktail area. With your booth, I would suggest using others’ suggestions such as signs or a DJ announcement. I noticed that a lot of the older guests were more bashful with the photo booth, but once they let go of their shyness, they had a blast with it! Placing the booth near the bar was a good idea, but only because there was a little curtain you could close to give people privacy. I’d be interested in what your photographer suggests. I heart photobooths!

I love how “portrait booth” gives “photo booth” a slightly more formal feel! Reminds me of going to Penney’s as a kid all dolled up for an Easter session with my sister!

I really REALLY want something like this at our wedding! I just have to convince my fiance that it’s not “tacky” (his words, not mine!). I think it’s delightfully goofy!

Our pro photogs set up a directed photobooth at our wedding and it was a huge hit. They set up in a smaller room right off of our reception room. To make sure everyone knew about it, we put a note with carnival tickets at the bottom of our programs, reminding them to use them for the photobooth. Our MC also made a reminder announcement during the reception.

i went to a friend’s wedding who set up a portrait booth. they had frames as favors since the portraits were printed on the spot. I think the emcee announced the portrait booth to the guests. the one caveat i wanted to share is that their ballroom/dance floor was empty the majority of the night because the portrait room was such a hit and open the entire night. most of the guests hung out there taking group shots versus boogey-ing down on the dance floor. in hindsight, they would’ve set a window when portraits could be taken. just a consideration because it will definitely be a hit! :)

I like the idea of a Portrait booth. I went to a wedding in Brazil and they had similar version of a portrait booth. We all love the pictures that night. Great memories…

Thanks for all of the tips!

@litlcloud: @Miss Glitter: Thanks for the input, we have been curious about setting up close to the bar.

@Miss D’orsay: @Soon2BeeMrsLewis: @MightySapphire: @Miss Latte: @egad: We will have fun incorporating the signage! :) I love the photobooth idea for the signs, but I don’t want them to be confused that it will be a portrait booth, not a photobooth. Maybe Mr. T and I can take some that look similar to Melissa’s set up to use for a sign!

@Miss Piglet: I have worried about that. We will hopefully start it during the cocktail hour, so people can get a head start before dancing.

@Tstew: I’m glad to hear that you liked it! :)
