About Mrs. Stiletto

Oh, candy buffet - how often I think about you! Stressing about the containers and decor on the table is one thing, but what about the sweet stuff? Since we’re sticking with black, white, and green on the table, there will probably be a decent amount of black candy. Which, of course, tends to be licorice-flavored… not a favorite of many people, including this bride.

To top it all off, candy, of course, is expensive! Candy Warehouse has a wide variety of bulk candy that you can sort through by color, and their shipping rates seem to be pretty reasonable. I’ve also found a few things on Metro Candy & Nut, who advertises 10% off your first order. Their selection isn’t the best, but I’m always a sucker for a deal.

I looove these suckers! And they’re blackberry-flavored… fantastic! I’m such a fan. At a box of 12 for $24, they’re not the best deal on the planet, but they’ve won me over on aesthetics. They’re 3.5 inches wide, so they should make quite a statement.

Mr. Stiletto loves penguins, and I absolutely love gummy candy. Compromise? Gummy penguins! These babies are fruit flavored and are only $7.50 for 2 lbs (at about 70 pieces per pound). I love ’em!

There does have to be some licorice on the table (though clearly labeled for those of us repelled by the taste). I think these swirls are so cute and because they are individually wrapped, we could easily pile them up on a plate or stand. AND they’re only $14.50 for 5 lbs (65 pieces per pound)!

Mmm… non pareils, or chocolate discs with sprinkles. These non pareils are dark chocolate (love!) and a pretty good deal at $29.50 for 6 lbs… good chocolate can’t come too cheap!

I was pricing out M&Ms (expensive!) when I came across these Sixlets. They’re pretty much the same thing without the M&M name attached. But… these are $30 for 10 lbs! Crazy. As you can see, they have an assortment of colors. I would totally do the black and the white, then swirl them in a couple of trifle dishes. This is a much more economical option than using name brand candy. I’m trying not to have a lot of large vessels that have to be filled, opting for platters and things of the like. But with how cheap these are, it would allow us to have a couple of large containers on the table.

So let’s see… where are we now potentially at on black and white candy?

  • Swirl Suckers: $24.00
  • Gummy Penguins: $7.50
  • Licorice Swirl Taffy: $14.50
  • Non Pareils: $29.50
  • Black and White Sixlets: $60

Grand Total: $135.50 (plus shipping) for 33 pounds of candy and 12 suckers.

Now, all I have to do is figure out the green candy options, and the do-it-yourself candy projects I have planned (oh yes, I’ll be starting quite the candy factory in my house!).

Does anyone else have ideas for deciding how much candy you’ll need for your candy buffet?

I’m glad you included the fruity penguins! They’re one of my favorite candy shop finds in the bulk bins! I can’t wait to see your green candies… I bought a bag of the green/white apple rings at the gas station this morning after filling my tank. Yummy!

@MissAubergine:
I LOVE Peach Rings, very similar to the apple rings. You can’t beat gummy candy!

I just stumbled upon a nostalgic candy site right after reading your post, and it made me think that St. Patty’s day candy could be perfect (assuming it has a relatively long shelf life)! Here are some examples from that stumbled upon site:

I am in the same boat. We as well are having a candy buffet and I have no idea what so ever how much candy I should get. I mean I have some amazing containers but I dont know how much really fits in the containers. I will be watching your follow up to see how much you order!! Good luck

All-green m&m’s are currently available by the bag at major retailers due to Valentines/Easter sales. They’re only available in Milk Chocolate variety, but a great price.

I’d love to see pictures of the containers you’re going to put the Sixlets in. How are the guests going to scoop them out? Are you going to have some kind of spoon in each dish for them to use? I’m not even planning on doing a candy buffet but this has inspired me to have a couple containers filled with pink and black candies around (my colors!).

I can’t help when it comes to quantity, but I did see a neat idea to fit in with your color scheme. You could take black and white patterned paper (or plain) and make your own wrappers to go around tootsie pops or other easily wrapped candy. Then the candy would look nice on the buffet, but you wouldn’t have to limit yourself to just black and white candy.

your candy picks are great!! your guest will be very lucky!! my SO and I are both high school teachers so we are having a candy buffet/high school bake sale!!! a couple people coming to the wedding are baking their “known for” treats at least 2 or 3 dozens…but, i figured that between and candy and the baked goods..there will be enough for a taste for everyone, with the cake and other desserts at the wedding, the candy buffet is more of a grab before you go and try to sober up on the way back up to your room treat….i don’t think i could afford enough candy for everyone!! are you supposed to have enough for everyone??
