I Got My BLUE!

March 3rd, 2009 @ 6:10 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

Of course, we hear from our grandmothers and mothers that we need something OLD, something NEW, something BORROWED, and something BLUE. I was thinking this would be pretty simple, because I have my great-grandmother’s rosary as my OLD, my dress as my NEW, and my jewelry (hopefully) will be BORROWED, but I just couldn’t think of a visible blue. I wanted it to be something visible, so that my family members could say, “Ah, there’s her blue.” I had thought about dyeing my crinoline, a la Avocado’s post, but I was afraid of messing up an expensive crinoline! So, I thought about my garter instead. I originally wanted an LSU garter, since that’s my and Mr. BF’s alma mater. I went online, and nothing was grabbing my attention. I’m really not much of a lace fan, so I knew I’d have trouble with lacy garters.

Out of boredom, I logged onto Etsy and found Garter Lady. She has CUTE garters at really reasonable prices! Check out some of what she has!

I immediately thought of Mrs. Sea Breeze with her purple wedding day accessories when I saw this one!

This set grabbed my eye for a second, as I could request my college in garter form, but I thought about how I needed my ’something blue’ and passed on this type of set.

For the brides who happen to LOVE lace, she makes garters with it as well!

And finally, here is what I decided on as my ’something BLUE’!!

Another great thing? She makes plus-sized garters for no extra charge. (I think that’s a first for me!) I really didn’t think about how my thunder thighs would need a different sized garter, but it makes perfect sense!

Have you found your something blue yet? What did you choose?

My fiance’s biological grandmother gave us some handmade hearts that his grandfather made before he passed. One of them was blue. It will go into my bouquet - definitely a no-brainer, especially to include him in our thoughts.

my something blue is a pair of electric blue flats! :D well - technically my garter is one too, but I’m more excited for my shoes!

My garter is my something blue as well! I bought a pale blue garter with pearls (very vintagey) from The Garter Lady too! She seems to really be the person to buy garters from on Etsy ;)

I love etsy! I got my garter set on there as well, but not from TheGarterLady. I used PetereneDesign. They really do AMAZING work, and there is a litte blue heart sewn onto all their garters!

I haven’t 100% decided yet– but I’m thinking about using jewelry with a blue stone…maybe aquamarine since it’s my birthstone.

Cute cute cute! I love the garter you chose. I haven’t decided yet whether my blue will be a sapphire of some sort (my daddy’s birthstone), ribbon on my bouquet, my shoes, my garter, my crinoline, or all of the above. ;)

Ooo, must check out the Garter Lady - I’m a lacy girl myself, but I’m a little worried it might be itchy, so I’ll probably go with something simpler.

O thanks for this info! I must look to see if she makes a Florida Gators one (bleck). I am not a fan, but the fiance is the BIGGEST fan ever. Long ago I told him I wouldn’t be caught dead in Gators attire, so this would be a nice lil suprise for him

My garter was my something blue too! i went with a Washington Redskins (our fave NFL team) style much like the Patriots one you have featured. The blue part is a little blue ribbon tied on the inside of the garter! I can’t wait to surprise FI on the big day with it! :-)
