Rehearsal Dinner Dress - White?

March 3rd, 2009 @ 9:29 am by Mrs. Apple Cider

I wrote a few days ago about a GORGEOUS purple dress, but honestly, I love the idea of wearing white to our rehearsal dinner. In the back of my mind I have been making notes on the dresses that I love. For the heck of it, I ordered one last week to see what it is like in person. I found this dress on Nordstrom’s website and had it shipped:

The dress was only $68, but sadly it just didn’t fit right. It wasn’t as flattering as it looked (probably since I am not a tall model). Now the hunt begins for the best rehearsal dinner dress… EVER! Since the Nordstrom dress didn’t work, I started looking at a few other dresses.

The Splurge: I am trying to find out the designer, but haven’t found it at the moment. Isla Fisher wore this dress to an interview. I am sure it was pricey! I love it. It’s very classy, but flirty.

(photos were borrowed from the awesome justjared.com)

Another Splurge: Someone on Weddingbee introduced me to the AMAZING Amanda Archer. How awesome would this dress be for a rehearsal dinner? Check out her dresses here. This one is $189.

Another Splurge: This one is from French Connection, which is one of my favorite lines. It is $248. The detail is stunning. I love the beading.

The Mid-Splurge: This is a Maggy London dress ($128) from Nordstrom. So many people have been talking about Maggy London dresses.

I have heard people say that wearing white at the rehearsal dinner takes away from wearing white on the wedding day. What do you think?

I plan on wearing a white dress with other patterns on it. I think that you can wear white if you want, I don’t know about taking away from the wedding day unless its a similar dress. I say go for it, if you find a white dress you love!

I’m torn as to the white or bright RD dress debate…but leaning towards a splash of color for my last night as a single gal!

I love Maggy London dresses. I’m wearing a yellow dress to one of my bridal showers and then for the rehearsal.

I’m wearing a bright blue & green dress to my rehearsal dinner. My rehearsal dinner is outside (beach) so I’m wearing a sundress. My compromise is that it is a looooong, beautiful sundress with a definitely “wow” factor!

I have been thinking about the rehersal dinner I want to wear something bright and fun and flirty. I was thinking of a nice red or even a saphire color to go along with the month of september.

I personally am not going to wear white but I love the dresses that you have here. If you are going to splurge make it good!!! I love the 2nd dress

I, too, want a white dress for our RD. I wore a white dress to my engagement party and loved it - I feel like I’m the bride to be so I can wear white all I want! :) Plus, our RD is Thursday night and our wedding is Saturday, so I have Friday to wear as much color as possible. Have you checked out White House Black Market? They can have some really great deals - I got my engagement dress on sale there for only $60!

I am wearing my mother’s wedding dress for the rehearsal dinner, which is actually a tea length ivory dress. I definitely think that you are the bride, so you can wear white to all of your wedding related events!

I love the idea of white to a rehearsal dinner. We are having our rehearsal at 11 am and then a rehearsal lunch and I’m looking for a short white summery dress. And maybe a cute white hat!

I get the opportunity to wear white again at my second reception, so I am thinking of something bright and colorful for the rehearsal dinner…
but these gave me some great ideas for my second reception dress! (I love amanda archer’s dresses!)

I got my bridal shower dress, rehearsal dinner dress and an after-party dress (after the wedding reception) from White House Black Market. They have a fabulous selection of white dresses, if price is a factor you could always check one of their outlet stores too.

I never wear white in my everyday life, but now I’m obsessed with “looking bridal.” I would love to have a white dress for the rehearsal dinner and am also searching for the best dress ever! Please share your finds and I’ll be happy to join the hunt!

Haha…I bought my white rehearsal dress before I even found my gown. I saw it at Macys
last summer and knew immediately I wanted to wear it for the rehearsal! OCD planner I know!!!

I’m leaning towards wearing white, but haven’t really started to look for dresses yet.

I don’t think it takes away at all to wear white to the RD (although I also think it’s strictly optional).

This is also a great post for anyone who wants to be a short dress bride! Very cute dresses.

I am planning on wearing white to my rehearsal dinner! Much like everyone else I love the idea of looking “bridal” at all the showers, parties, etc. I think it’s a great idea!

I’m totally taking advantage of the bride thing as an excuse to wear white for my whole weekend and honeymoon! I never wear white, and darn it, it’s my time. LOL

Love the Isla Fisher dress! BTW.. there’s nothing wrong with wearing white to the rehearsal.. you are the bride after all! :^) I actually got my dress from Guess last year for my rehearsal and it was in white. It was actually a last minute decision bc I already had a black, white and yellow dress to wear, but fell in love with the one I actually ended out wearing. The other dress made a great honeymoon dress! Just go with it! You’re the bride and should stand out. What better way than to wear white!

I don’t think it takes away from the drama at all! In fact, I’ve been looking at it as the perfect opportunity to wear something white, flirty, and cute that would have been too informal for our wedding. :)

@driftslikesmoke: I agree. Nothing comes close to the drama of your wedding dress ;)

That said, I’m really looking forward to wearing white the day we leave for the honeymoon, a cute white summer dress, so for me 3 days in a row is just too much. This also gives me the opportunity to wear a dress in one of our wedding colors - and I don’t have a dress in one of those colors!

I would be nervous about wearing a white dress to the rehearsal, but only because my wedding dress isn’t super fancy. It’s more of an elegant, casual look- other than if I got a shorter dress- I think it would look too much alike!! I’ll probably end up with one of our wedding colors on- rich red or pale blue.

I love wearing white dresses and pants outfits but you get to wear white so rarely that I am definitely going to do it for the RD. I always want to wear white dresses but the only places I really wear dresses are to weddings and I never can there! I LOVE that FC dress… !!

I have a weird obsession with wearing white to wedding related events, so I totally get the white for the rehersal dinner!

I LOVE the Isla Fischer option! If you find out where she got it, I hope you update us! :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who has posted. I bought a dress as a wedding dress only 2 weeks after I got engaged (a 15 months engagement) then cried for a week over it. I then bought a second dress which I am completely in love with but I couldn’t return the first dress. I decided to have a bubble hem put on it to wear for the rehearsal dinner. I just picked it up today and have been stressing for hours. But now, after reading about all of you so excited to get to wear white (I was thinking of wearing red because my mo wore red to her RD) I am so thrilled to get to wear this dress.

Ooo I like that dress by Isla Fisher! And the Maggie London one.

I had a a white dress with some other patterns on for my rehearsal dinner.

I think it’s pretty common to wear white for rehearsal dinner :) I had a destination wedding and I was going to wear white everyday but someone stopped me from that cz that was a bit too much :)
