MR. SHORTCAKE:
Fifty minutes of driving time away, the other half of the wedding party was slowly getting ready after an evening of margaritas and cards. The morning began with some homemade Egg McMuffins and a couple of beers to take the edge off. Nothing says, “I’m getting married today!” quite like breakfast sandwiches and a pint! Because almost none of my groomsmen had been in a wedding party, there was a definite nervous energy in the air - it wasn’t just from me!
Our videographer (a friend of mine) arrived at my parents’ house at around 8 AM to take a few quick clips of me handing the rings to my best man for safe keeping. After staying for our breakfast of champions, he too was off to visit the bridal party. It was now time for me to do the two things that a groom has to do at a wedding:
Get dressed, and show up!
Those are not always easy tasks for some of us - especially certain ones who still need someone to tie their ties for them! In true “man” fashion, we set up camp in the basement, laying our “James Bond tuxedos” on the Ping Pong table alongside our beers.

“What the heck is this strap thingy?”

(One of the boys is very proud of his suspenders, while the other still can’t quite figure them out.)
Amazingly, we finally got our acts together.
Here is the entire group showing off their bow ties and sparkly new cufflinks:

Tuxedos on, hair slicked back, we were ready to go. My mother, back from dropping off my sister (a bridesmaid) at Miss Shortcake’s house, returned with a box full of boutonnieres.

“Whose is whose?”
“I call the pink one!”
“Oh wait… they’re labeled”
“Ohhhhhh…”
Floral bits and bobs in place, we were ready for our serious portraits…

…and for our goofy ones:

This was the first time that I had ever seen my tomboy mom dressed up—she looked fabulous. I almost didn’t recognize her! I think that I might be my father’s son, as every day I seem to look more and more like him. He was one of the hardest people to get to smile properly for any pictures. Luckily, I had been well trained by Miss Shortcake and had had lots of practice in our engagemetn photo shoot!

Because of the long drive from Whiterock to Fort Langley, my parents booked a shuttle bus to bring my side of the family to the ceremony. When I saw my uncle and soon-to-be brother in-law carrying a cooler full of beer on to the bus I became quite jealous. But then again, it was probably a good thing that I didn’t take that ride…

(I don’t think that the stripper poles in the middle were used to their full advantage… however, I didn’t get to witness the post-reception trip…
