Mrs. Cupcake's Picture
Mrs. Cupcake, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 27, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Construction Project Manager Engagement Date: February 10, 2007 Wedding Date: September, 2008 Blogging Since: December 7, 2007 Venue: The Desmond Hotel in Malvern, PA About Me: Mr. Cupcake and I hit it off at a Halloween party and immediately began a long-distance relationship. After two years, he moved to my neck of the woods, and a year and a half after that, he proposed at the “place we fell in love.” I am a true perfectionist who enjoys designing and creating more work for myself, so wedding planning is my perfect outlet. Mr. Cupcake and I are both old souls, and we hope to weave that aspect of our personalities into our wedding day.
About Mrs. Cupcake
All photos below by The Wiebners. We purchased a disc of all unedited images from our wedding day, so some post-processing has been done by me for the purpose of sharing the photos with you. Click on any photo to enlarge.

We’re taking a break from all the super girlie bridal stuff to check in with our dashing groom and his partners in crime! The boys — I mean, men — got ready in my brother’s guest room at The Desmond.

Now, let’s face it: it probably took the guys about 15 minutes to get ready while we ladies primped for hours. I wasn’t there (obviously), but from the looks of the photos, there was a lot of tie-tying, and, well, that’s about it.

Okay, okay — I lied. There was also some cuff link… ing?

It looks like they also indulged in some fine Brooke & Nick (aka Mrs. & Mr. Cupcake) water.

One of my 7,639 DIY projects

But back to the tie tying: Mr. Cupcake looks pretty cute while he ties a tie, doesn’t he?

Mr. Cupcake’s Uncle Kevin, who was always more like a big brother to him (he is 15-years older than Mr. C), actually lives in Bangladesh where he is a regional director for an international charity. He came alllllll that way from Dhaka to be one of our groomsmen. Now that’s love! Below, he spiffs himself up (left) while my brother uses the other side of the mirror to get himself lookin’ all dapper.

Mr. Cupcake’s best friend, Ryan, filled the role of Best Man. You can see the teal and ivory paisley ties we got for all of the guys in the photo of him below.

The guys all wore black suits instead of tuxes, and Mr. Cupcake added some suspenders to complete the look. I love the look of black suspenders with a crisp white shirt! I think he looks quite dashing.

Mr. Cupcake and his Uncle Kevin

I spy a Wiebner!

Evidently, groomsman Brad was having some trouble with his tie. He called in Ryan for reinforcement while groomsman Jeremy watched from the sidelines.

Well, apparently Ryan didn’t work out, so my dad stepped in. (He hung out with the guys before coming to “pick me up” in my suite.)

Mr. Cupcake and I are both addicted to our iPhones, so I’m not surprised that he snuck a peek.

One of my lovely bridesmaids delivered not one but TWO cards to Mr. Cupcake, from me. One was a nice sweet card, and the other one was just something funny that reminded me of us.

What, no tears?? He must have been saving them up for the ceremony…

Then, it was just your usual guys-hanging-out-being-guys type of thing.

My dad was all smiles all day
Brother Cupcake is a menswear designer so looking dapper is in his blood!

Groomsman Jeremy found some time to read while Mr. Cupcake checked himself out one last time.

FIL Cupcake soon arrived and was greeted at the door by Step Dad Cupcake.

Once everyone was together, my dad made his way to my suite while the rest of the guys headed downstairs at The Desmond. They were supposed to take some group portraits outside… but got a little sidetracked first at the hotel gift shop.

Here, Jeremy is modeling the Austin-Powers-on-crack glasses; work it, Jeremy!
Who doesn’t love a good set of beer goggles?
Would you like some cheese with your wine?

When the silly antics subsided, Joel caught this cool shot of Mr. Cupcake waiting in the lobby.

Then the guys headed outside for some posed shots.

Hey hot stuff!

Guy love!

Pretty soon, it would be time for the guys to hitch a ride to our first photo location, so they broke out the shades and headed over to the entrance of the hotel to wait for the bridesmaids.

Mr. Cupcake snuck in another peek at his iPhone, this time to check out some sports stats with his dad.
This photo makes me giggle… this is such a classic Mr. Cupcake “Well what do I do now?” stance that I am very familiar with.

Aw I love these pictures! Question (that you may have already answered at some point, sorry in advance): did you have the guys all buy the same black suit or did you have them wear their own? How did it work out? Thanks!

Looks great, the beer goggles are hilarious. My future brother in-law brews beer as a hobby, I’ll have to find a pair for him! :)

@EAQ219: Mr. Cupcake bought a new black suit for the occasion. The rest of the guys (most of whom work in casual environments and don’t all have a black suit) rented theirs from a local suit/tux rental shop. The quality wasn’t as nice as Mr. Cupcake’s but that’s okay, because he was the groom :-) And ultimately they all coordinated and didn’t have to spend a ton of money. We gave them all the option of buying a black suit if they preferred, but none of them would have gotten enough use out of it to justify buying it so they chose to rent.

I have two questions too, Mrs. Cupcake: My fiance wants to wear suspenders just like Mr. Cupcakes! Is there a specific name for that type of suspender and where did you get them?

@Keladry: I don’t know of a specific name for that type of suspenders…. just “black suspenders” :-) He got them at JCPenney for $19.99!

We’re thinking of having our guys just wear black suits, too! Did all of your guys already own them, or did you request that they buy one for the wedding?

@Keladry: Mr. C. clarified last night that he actually did have a hard time finding suspenders with silver instead of gold hardware. JCPenney is where he ultimately found them. Also, he had to be sure to have the buttons sewn onto his pants so that he could attach the suspenders.

@driftslikesmoke: see #5 above :-)

@Vicki: We got them at Macy’s in NYC early last summer. Unfortunately I haven’t seen them since…. they were Club Room brand, I posted about them here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/05/12/accessorize-me-part-one/

@Mrs. Cupcake: Thanks! That’s what I get for not reading all the comments above mine. *sheepish*

Does the local tux shop exist as part of a national chain? Or do you know what line the men wore? We haven’t been able to find black suits for rental ANYWHERE, and my FH is so in love with the suit he bought that I’d hate for him to be unable to wear it. :)

@driftslikesmoke: No worries! I forgive you ;-)

I THINK the rented suits were After Six? I could be wrong, but that sounds right…. We did find that Men’s Wearhouse and other larger chains only rented tuxes, but found two smaller local tux shops that would rent suits. Definitely check out some of the local mom-and-pop type of places for suit rental.

I love the photo with your hubby in front with all the guys out of focus in the background!! Great shot.

I also love the “what do I do now?” look as I’ve seen it on my FI many times!

I love your photos. They’re incredible.

Also, I’ll be honest… I own those beer mug glasses as well. You might find me wearing them amongst the thousands of other beer lovers this weekend. Oh, Erin Express and Philly Beer Week… (<3) ;-)
