Stuff I Use: Sonicare

March 4th, 2009 @ 5:53 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

I used to smoke. I drink coffee by the gallon and almost as much red wine. Thus, my pearly whites aren’t so… pearly. I also have very sensitive teeth that cause me to shudder in pain just thinking about bleaching trays and strips. That said, I’m decently vain and dream of having a bright glowing smile on W day (heck, every day would be nice). So, what’s a sensitive girl to do? Enter the Sonicare toothbrush, one of my inanimate best friends:

I received this bad boy from my parents for Christmas last year and have been hooked ever since!

It vibrates around your mouth at 30-second intervals, ensuring that you cover each quadrant equally for the recommended 2 minutes of brush time. When you first start using it, it starts off really gently and works its way up to “full power” after about two weeks, but the power settings are adjustable if it’s too much/not enough power for you.

The heads are replaceable and I bought mine in bulk at Costco, ensuring that every few months I always have a fresh head ready to go. Plus, it comes with a nifty travel case so you are never without your magic toothbrush.

I’ve been using it for a while now and it has SERIOUSLY changed my life! I never thought I’d say that about a toothbrush, but not only are my teeth visibly whiter, my gums are less sensitive and my chompers aren’t as fazed by hot and cold liquids as they once were. Seriously worth the investment!

What’s your whitening strategy?

I’m definitely a fan of this. I got FI one for his bday and immediately went out and got myself one after. I love it!

This is a wonderful toothbrush. I started using my FI’s and it is seriously amazing. Your teeth feel so clean you wonder how you managed without it. I am still going to invest in whtie strips, but definitely am a Sonicare convert. If only I had it in the budget to do a professional teeth whitening!

I have had a sonicare toothbrush since I have been 17-now-27. I asked my parents for one for my birthday (how dorky is that?). I absolutely love it and have gotten my fiance to use one as well. (Costco has a two pack that is only a little more expensive than one by itself-very worth it) Another reason to buy it; your dentist will love that you have one.

Whitestrips work great for me, just make sure you get the regular ones! (the super ones make your teeth and gums hurt so bad)

FYI- Clarisonic also makes a skincare brush for about $200 from Sephora. I got it last year and I love it- it exfoliates wonderfully. Too bad we cant register there. :)

I started to faithfully use white strips. I began using them today only becuase I want to have whiter teeth. Everyone also tell the Mr and me that we have perfect teeth but no one ever tells me that my teeth are white :-( haha! So why not start!

By the way I have the same tooth brush and I love it!

My fiance has one of these and he SWEARS by it. I’ve never really used it, but I’ve always been tempted. Maybe I’ll buy some heads for his and give it a run for myself!!

Oof, forgot to ask! Do you use it with a particular whitening toothpaste, or does it work wonders with regular paste?

I just bought white strips today for the first time. I haven’t tried them yet… I’m hoping that my teeth aren’t too sensitive for them! I think Mr. Taffy has the same toothbrush as you…

The boy and I got this for Christmas last year… definately one of my fave gifts! If you know anyone who prefers practical gifts this would be a great idea!

I use my electric toothbrush religiously! I also swear by Crest White Strips, but they do make my teeth sensitive!

I’m a huge Sonicare fan too! If you want to add some ZEST to your smile (and get rid of stubborn stains too!!) I HIGHLY recommend using PURE baking soda!! Put some in your palm, make it into a paste with water, then rub it on your teeth with your finger (spread evenly). Then use your toothbrush, and watch your teeth buff to a beautiful, clean, white shine!!! (WARNING: Baking soda tastes icky…but is soooo worth it!)One of the few things I get compliments on…my WHITE WHITE teeth…my mom had me use baking soda when I was a kid and keeping it up for 20 years has saved tons on bleachers and whiteners and such!!

I never knew that sonicare could make a big difference compared to a normal toothbrush. I’ll definitely have to check it out. I think Costco has coupons for it every now and then. I’ll keep my eye out.

Ooh thanks for the product review - I’ve been wanting to upgrade my toothbrush for awhile but was overwhelmed with the options. I just might have to give this one a go.
