Mrs. Martini's Picture
Mrs. Martini, New Jersey Age and Occupation: 30, Telecom by day, Superhero by night Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Investments & Finance by day, Hip hop dancer by night Engagement Date: May 24, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 18, 2008 Venue: The Venetian About Me: Things that make me happy: Haribo Happy Cola gummies, TV shows on DVD, buying books although I never read them, 80’s rock ballads, ramen, and of course Mr. Martini! He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

Confession of the day: I was completely and utterly unprepared for our engagement/casual shoot.

We originally planned to have our photo shoot with Cly Creations right after the holidays, but we’ve been so busy with other things that we didn’t even schedule it until just a few weeks ago. Jiyee from Makeup Blush was to do my makeup for the shoot, so it took a little time to find a date that was good for all of us.

Our first dilemma was the location. Actually, it was just my dilemma. Mr. Martini knew exactly where he wanted to take pictures - By the Gapstow Bridge in Central Park, where he proposed to me at the end of the scavenger hunt. As for me, I loved the West Village, but where in the West Village? I didn’t know my way around the area, and since our time was limited, I didn’t want to waste time walking around looking for a good place to take pictures.

But why was I so dead set on the West Village, when I’m a Jersey girl who’s hardly even ventured there? For Mrs. Bee’s birthday one year, we did a Scavenger hunt through Watson Adventures. The hunt took us all over the Village area looking for strange clues that I would never have noticed in passing. There was just so much history there, and I completely fell in love.

When we got engaged and it was time to think about our engagement session, this area immediately came to mind. There were a few places where I just felt I had to go to take pictures, but my problem was that I just couldn’t remember the exact locations. In a last moment of desperation two days before the shoot, I called Watson Adventures and…. well… asked. Luckily, they were just so nice! I tried to describe the street the best way that I could and she immediately knew where it was. She did warn me that the area is a private street, and she wasn’t too sure about the policies for taking pictures there. I thanked her and jotted down the location, fingers crossed.

Our second dilemma was the clothes. Actually, it was just my dilemma. Again. Mr. Martini knew exactly what he was going to wear, down to the cufflinks. I didn’t have any clothes, and didn’t have time buy anything! I tried to borrow some clothes a week before from one of my MOHs, who is always so fashion savvy. I was hoping that after losing a few pounds I would be able to squeeze into her tiny clothes, but I was seriously mistaken. I did borrow a few tops as a backup and went through my closet again and again. In a last moment of desperation, I called Mr. Martini and… well… asked (seeing the pattern here?). He told me his planned outfits - brown for the casual pictures, and a navy suit for the dressier pictures. He recommended I wear the blue dress he bought for me, which was the dress I got engaged in. I wasn’t too sure at first because it was also the dress I wore to our family engagement dinner, but I did love it, so I agreed. For the casual pictures, I decided to wear a brown coat that my brother bought for me, along with jeans. I had to laugh. I finally knew what I was going to wear only the NIGHT before the engagement shoot, and both outfits were not only bought for me, they were bought by men!

I went to bed thinking, hmm… not bad so far…

How hard was it to get everything prepared for your own engagement shoot? How long did it take you to find outfits?

Ahhh, I trying to decide my outfits right now! I’m finding it almost imposibble to find clothes that match the nature pics we will take, the barn pics we will take, the country club next to the barn pics we will take… not to mention the outfit must make our “save the date” sign I created that will be hung in any of these places… So I hear your frustrations!

I bought a couple of things right before the shoot and ended up throwing out one of them. My favorite pictures ended up being the ones where I’m wearing jeans and my fiance’s dark grey T.

Can’t wait to see your pics! You should have asked if your photog would do both locations– we ran our photog all over downtown for many hours. He was very indulgent.

@chocolatechip: Very jealous. Barn pics were my first choice but barns are hard to come by in LA.

My fiance also knew exactly what he wanted to wear. However, I went into panic mode for our engagement shoot and bought a ton of sweaters online (we did snow pics in the woods). I ended up with a cute one from bluefly. Unfortunately, I didn’t really think about what pants I’d wear. I ended up throwing on my everyday jeans, which apparently aren’t very flattering. I also went on a buying spree for boots, but didn’t find any I liked, which was unfortunate since our photographer took shoe shots and my old boots are all scuffed and ugly.

Can’t wait to see your pics! I want to have some engagement pics taken in the West Village or Meatpacking District. Our photog is from Brooklyn and well-acquainted in the area, so will be relying on her - but would love to see where you ended up!

I’m actually planning on purchasing outfits just for the engagement shoot!

Partly because what I own is NOT suitable for an engagement shoot and partly because I have lost 15lbs since getting engaged and nothing fits!

Hope I don’t put it off too long, but you’ve got me thinking!!

our engagement shoot happened literally 18 hours after we were engaged! And while it wouldn’t have worked almost any other way…it was stressful and I spent no time picking out an outfit!

I called my friends/photographers to tell them the good news and they said, “when do you want us to take your pictures?”
Me: “ummm, fiance won’t be out here again until spring break. Now?”
them: “ok, meet us at the forest preserve in 2 hours!”

I still love our photos, because we have the just engaged glow and they’re very us…just not very planned out! We both wore sweaters and jeans…no fun tops, dresses or heels.

We were supposed to get ours done back in October but our photographer had a last minute wedding to do…..then we were supposed to have them done last weekend (cuz we wanted to wait for the weather to get better) but of course it’s Vancouver so it rained. We’re going to try for tomorrow so wish us luck!! NO RAIN PLEASE!!! As for outfits…we’re set!

I have an impromptu wedding video shoot this weekend, and I’m ashamed to say that I have NO CLUE what I’m going to wear. I don’t really LIKE any of my clothes right now to have them immortalized on film…

I had a fun and bright outfit planned but we moved our engagement session to a very colorful and would-be clashing location, so I ended up wearing a pretty boring black shirt and planning breaking my only bold accessory, a necklace, on the way there. So I didn’t look as cute as I’d hoped, but maybe they’ll be more timeless this way.
