Pretty Pretty Postcards

March 5th, 2009 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Duckling

As I relax and recover this week, I’m hoping to get some wedding stuff done, since I don’t sit still too well. The first big thing that needs to get out are our save the dates. I had originally hoped to have these out in the mail in January or February, however with all the medical stuff going on, that has just not happened. We just booked our engagement session for a few weeks from now and I want to use those pictures for the save the dates.

To make things a little easier on the production, and to save money on postage, we decided we should do postcards. I want to work on our graphic design with Mr. Ducky so that once we have our pictures, all we have to do is drop the image in and send them off for printing. Mr. Ducky is working, so I will be on my own using Photoshop during the day, which will be interesting. :)

Here are some save the date postcards I’ve seen that are inspiring me as I think about what to do.

Did anyone else do postcards? What are some creative ways to make use of your engagement photos?

I love STD postcards. We almost did them ourselves, but went another route. They’re fabulous!

We did postcards from one of the online printers- they turned out great but now I keep seeing other ideas I like better! I’m afraid to finalize our invites- lol

I love the first one, too! Maybe instead of “i do” it could say “we do.” I noticed that a lot of the save-the-dates are from Minted. I didn’t end up ordering mine from Minted, but I did request some examples in the mail, and they were very pretty (just not what I was looking for). They seem to have great customer service!

We did postcards too. Very cost effective.

Two things to think about though:

1) If you have the wrong address, you don’t get postcards returned to you. So if you’ll have to think of another way to check addresses. And you don’t know if people never received it- which can be a bit awkward…

2) We heard some people almost threw away the postcards since they thought it was junkmail (junkmail with our pictures on it?)

@Danit: or maybe we just forgot to include our return address…

We did postcards and it was super easy and super cheap! I looked at designers online but really wanted to cut costs on this particular project. SO, I took one of our engagement portraits and uploaded it to Snapfish and printed all 250 for dirt cheap. They have been complimented heavily and Snapfish allowed us to customize what we wanted printed on the back. (including addresses!)

One more thing - we included our return address and had one returned to us with an incorrect address. So they will return them.

We also sent out postcard save the dates with one of our engagement pictures. I thing we used Photoshop to insert some writings in the front and return address on the back. Above postcards are darling! Good luck!

I did postcards. I loved them at first but now I’m not sure I like the design. I do love the actual postcard though.

We did postcards and ordered them through an online printer. I loved the way ours turned out, but had I seen these cute ideas first, I probably would have done them differently! Also, like Loren commented, we included a return address on the back of the card, and one was returned to us when the address was incorrect.

Ooh looks like you have some great inspiration!

I just posted about my postcards…I love ‘em! We used an engagement photo and between printing and stamps only spent $60! What a deal.

I have a couple of these in my “Wedding OneNote book”! I’m loving the aqua/red one with the kraft paper envelope, but can’t find them on the link. Where are they from? Thanks!
