Yum, Lemograss!

March 5th, 2009 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Joey

I love Vietnamese lemongrass chicken. I was on the West Elm website cruising around and the description of lemongrass accessories piqued my interest. Thank goodness it did! I found little bulb vases in a lemongrass color (on the very right in maroon below) for $3.99 each. I bought 20 of them. It turns out that shipping is free and there was no sales tax. Score!

I’m also trying to decide on the grey and clear/white vases to complete our look. So far, I think I like these from CB2:

These are going to go on top of the different fabric table runners. Since I’m doing all the flowers myself (I know, I’m insane), I decided that instead of huge arrangements, I’m going to do a vase with a single flower on top of a fun fabric. We’ll still need about 75 stems, but that’s easier to manage than hundreds. Also, this way, I can mix and match different varieties of white and yellow flowers.

Our big problem will be the round tables. I didn’t realize that we’d have to decorate 5 round tables. For me, they are harder to design because of all the space in the middle.

Are all your reception tables of the same shape and size? If not, how are you adapting you centerpieces to fit the dimensions of your different tables? I need ideas!

Wow - sometimes I feel like I’m so on top of planning and things but then realize there are so many details I haven’t worked through. I have no idea! I guess I assumed the tables would all be the same size :-P

I doubt my centerpiece ideas will help you but here goes anyway! :) We have some round tables and 2 rectangular ones. For the round ones I’m putting a little bubble vase with some sand and a votive candle on a stand covered in black wrapping paper and the stand will be surrounded by maiden hair ferns in small pots for our guests to take home as favors. Our venue is in the middle of the woods, we were engaged on a beach and our invites have ferns! :) It doesn’t sound as neat as it will look! haha For the round tables the pots of ferns will be around the stand but for the rectangular tables the pots will make a circle around the stand and then sort of flow towards the center of the table… sounds odd, but hopefully it will work out! :)
I’d love to see a mockup

I thought I’d fill in any space with rose petals and “table filler” just little things sprinked here and there. I don’t want my tables to look too complicated so I may just leave the open space there!

I’m so jealous of your different size/shape tables! I REALLY wanted different shapes (rectangles, rounds) but that would’ve cost extra. :( Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

I LOVE your vases!! The colors are so rich!! I am also using petals or vase gems as filler.

Wow! Doing your floral arrangements yourself is ambitious and admirable! I wish I had the skills for something like that.

I think that the unique colored vases along with the pop of white and yellow different floral mix will be a perfectly elegant setting for your tables. Don’t worry about not having enough on your tables, you can always fill in with some “filler” petals or something. Plus, once you have glasses, silverware, napkins, favors, etc on the table, the space will fill up faster than you think! Any why is DIYing your flowers insane? I’ve had the SAME thoughts, and I know that I’m not insane! Just kidding. Maybe a little bit! Good luck and myabe just do a trial run so that you can see it all together. Don’t forget to show us some pics!
