Review: Martha Stewart Tissue Paper Bouquet Kit : wedding diy flowers Marthas Source

About a month ago I was scoping out the arts and crafts section at Wal-Mart when I came across this Martha Stewart Tissue Paper Bouquet Kit on sale for $6.87. We were on our way out of town because Mr. K was competing in a duathlon. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to spending lots of time by myself waiting for him to cross the finish line, so I thought the kit would be a great diversion!

The finished product!

The kit consists of floral wire, floral tape, tissue paper, and a few flowery embellishments. It makes four varieties of blooms, with a total of 27 flowers in the kit. It took me about a day to make all of the flowers, and my hands were pretty tired when I was finished, but I think they turned out great! I put them on my dining room table and I’ve been getting lots of compliments ever since! I decided against using them for the wedding, just because of the difficulty of transporting them to Grand Cayman, but if I were getting married locally, I would definitely consider using these bright, pretty, eco-friendly flowers for my centerpieces! Another bonus is that guests can easily take them home as favors at the end of the night!

If you are considering trying out the Tissue Paper Bouquet for yourself, I have two tips for you:

  • Tip #1: Buy the kit at Wal-Mart. I generally don’t love shopping there (I am much more of a Target girl) but they had these kits on sale! I checked online and they are regular price (around $10), but their prices are still cheaper than Michaels (around $20).
  • Tip #2: This is ideally a “group project”. Making the flowers got pretty tedious after a while. When I was considering making the flowers for my wedding, I envisioned a girl’s night with wine, a chick flick, and lots and lots of paper flowers! :)

Using tissue paper flowers is a great way to cut costs for your wedding. They are delicate, classy, and easy on your wallet! I just wish they wouldn’t get squished in my suitcase on the way to the Caymans! Check Wal-Mart and Michaels if you are interested in trying these out for yourself!

Here are some other cute tissue paper flower kits from Martha. I bought the pink peony kit for my rehearsal bouquet!

I’m not…but those are too cute! I would definitely make some as decor for a party…maybe a bridal shower.

I considered making paper flowers for some extra decorations (aisle decorations, guest book table, bathroom etc.) and these are super cute! Thanks for the review!

I am hoping to make paper flowers for my wedding to save some money and make things unique (but mostly to save money!). One of the bees posted links to some paper flowers that were absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to try my hand at some of the projects.

We are having a Mexican themed wedding so paper flowers fit right in. I have made several arrangements for the tables, etc. I used the same kit to learn a few tricks but used different papers and designs for the final arrangements. I found that there were more ways to go about it than covered in the kit - and it was really easy.

We’re likely to use tissue paper pomanders (similar to Pengy’s but with a Styrofoam ball). I like the idea of a rehearsal bouquet!

I found some of the flowers in the kit to be a little too difficult and they didn’t come out like they should have. Others came out really pretty.

We decided to have a destination wedding as well, but if I were planning to have the wedding at home I would have looked into paper flowers. I’m not big on flowers in my everyday life so this would have been a cute alternative.

I am! ^_^ I already have one bouquet mockup done, but I haven’t really gotten started on doing much more since our wedding is so far away. I can start now and have it done ages in advance, but I’d have masses and masses of paper flowers coming out my ears for over 12 months. :P Not so sure how I feel about that…plus the dust factor. What if they get irredeemably dusty?!

And opinions on how far in advance is sane?

Sounds like we would ALL like to see the ones that you’ve made Miss Kitten!
I am also making the tissue paper pomanders to decorate the ceremony site. The paper lanterns was MUCH more cost effective than the styrofoam option for me, and it gave me a variety of sizes.
My whole family and my FH thought that I was insane when I started this project 10 months before the big day, but I had read about the warnings of how time consuming this might be and wanted to get an early start.
To store them (I worried about the dust factor too!) I am hanging them in our garage, with a small trash bag used as a cover. I poked a small hole in the bottom of the bag and “threaded” my ribbon on the lantern through that so that the entire pomander was covered well. It seems to work well so far.
I’m halfway done with my porject and everyone has stopped laughing at the finished result! I love them SO much that I’m considering making some smaller ones for the reception decor. It’s just SO cheap and easy to do - the only drawback is the time factor.

I included pictures of my bouquet in the post, but for some reason they didn’t make it on to Weddingbee! Because if you are patient and take your time the flowers really can look just like the picture! I will see about getting the post fixed!

I made these and loved them!!

Here’s a board I made with them. I hung up a picture of my late father and surrounded him with tissue flowers. Kind of cheesy, but I think he would have loved it. :)
