About Mrs. Bruschetta

Cold Hands, Warm Hearts

March 9th, 2009 @ 12:33 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

I love my friends.

They comfort me and allay my bridal guilt.

They come out at night to try on bridesmaid dresses when it’s 17 degrees out (but feels like 10).

They easily agree on the same Amsale bridesmaid dress, and with orders placed, we’re able to cross another item off the to-do list.

I think that deserves a little recognition, don’t you?

With an evening appointment at the salon, I knew we wouldn’t have time for dinner before or after. But, I wanted a way to show my gratitude to the girls, and give them a (hopefully!) fond memory of the evening — especially since it was the first time a few of them met!

Enter Crafty Miss Bruschetta. The resulting warm fuzzies came into being after many (many!) trips for supplies, and way too many needle pricks — because hey, I’m still new at this.

Continuing to hammer home the color theme, I made each girl a puffy heart (ornament? I guess that’s what I intended them to be). On each, I included a smaller heart of tulle; however, I made the size of tulle heart reflective of the time I’ve known each girl. Largest for Sister Bruschetta, and decreasing in size from there — but still very cute.

And, not to be left out of the party, I created a bridal-y one for myself!

I wanted some cute packaging for the hearts, and found perfectly-sized black take-out cartons. After some hastily-made yarn pom-poms (to identify whose is in which box), I stepped back to admire my handiwork!

Our appointment was quick and efficient — five gowns in the running, and an hour later, with the winner selected and each girl measured, there was time for a group shot before we headed out into the frigid (frigid!) February night.

(Yup, I’m absent in this one because I’m behind the camera — the full group shot [taken by a bridal salon associate] was blurry, because my camera stinks.)

Was picking your bridesmaids attire an easy process? And what do you think about black dresses during the summer?

Miss B - I wore a black dress (floor length) with champagne accents for an August wedding — so you’re good :)

How cute are those hearts? :) I basically chose the designer and color for my bridesmaids, and they chose the style that looked best on them. :)

Picking out bridesmaid dresses has been the toughest part for me so far. :( It’s hard to pick a dress everyone will like. I like black for the dresses, too. I don’t think it matters that it is summer, either. I am trying to do a different color, but am worried about making the girls pay $150 for a dress they will only wear once and really dislike the color. (I’m in love with purple…my friends, not so much.)

Black dresses are great regardless of the weather in my opinion! They can always add color in their accessories!

Your hearts are so pretty. You did a great job, and I especially love the white one you made for yourself.

Black is a very classy color, and it will work well in any season. I’m sure your bridesmaids will look beautiful in them.

i think black dresses work any time of the year with the right color accents! And you’re very nice to your bridesmaids because black is the most likely color to be worn again, and it looks good on everyone!

those hearts are adorable!! You should’ve given them away as valentines too!

@sorry: I always joke that people in my region are “winter wimps” — and I guess I’m one as well! I went to grad school in Boston, and that toughened up my skin a bit, but since I’ve been home — and not dressing nearly warmly enough! — I’ve reverted to a Philly winter wimp again. Didn’t mean to offend you (or anyone) with my attempts at weather wit!

Those little hearts are adorable! I am having a rough time deciding on our BM dresses, but I’m hopeful that it will happen soon!
