The Joeys Are Getting Married

March 9th, 2009 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Joey

It all happened so fast. The proposal, that is. Mr. Joey and I had been dating for almost 4 years. It’s all a blur, but here’s what I remember.

I came home one day from work, June 24th to be exact, and noticed a bottle of bubbly on the kitchen counter. I didn’t really think anything of it, and after I put down my stuff and said hi to Mr. Joey, I went to work on dinner. Later, as we were finishing up our meal, Mr. Joey asked me if I’d like to open a birthday present early. Of course, I said yes. He brought out one of those cute gift boxes shaped like a Chinese takeout box. I thought I knew what it was, but of course I was wrong. A few months back, I was eyeing this cute top at J.Crew that I thought I saw him buy as I was headed towards the dressing room.

It wasn’t the top. I opened the gift box and all I saw was tissue paper. I pulled all of it out and at the bottom was a little square, just big enough to fit a small pair of hoop earrings or a ring. Of course, I thought I was getting earrings. Nope. I unwrapped the square and there in my little hand was this gorgeous vintage diamond ring.

I looked over at him and he managed to muster out, “Will you marry me?” and my answer wasn’t, “yes,” it was, “ARE YOU SERIOUS?” Not quite the answer he thought he’d get, but it meant the same as a yes.

Mr. Joey told me later that he had planned to ask me when we went down to Portland for my birthday the following week, but he couldn’t wait. He bought the ring a week before at an antique jewelry store and the thought of having to hide his gift for another week was more than he could bear.

In the end there was no getting down on one knee (he could hardly keep from falling out of the chair) and no elaborate plan. Just plain and simple. and perfectly us.

How did your Mister pop the question? Were there fireworks and sandy beaches, or just a little Chinese takeout box after dinner?

Awww, so cute! Those were my first words in response to Mr. Bruschetta’s question as well…but he pushed and made me answer yes as well. ;-)

What an adorable story! Love it! I was giggling and laughing too much when he gave me my ring, he didn’t get a chance to actually propose. But I said yes anyway!

Aww!
There was a sandy beach and fireworks! haha My FI proposed our 2nd night of vacation at Nauset Beach in Cape Cod at sunset. He wanted to take a walk, I didn’t but I humored him! Best fib ever! hahaha I kept thinking “he’s gonna ask, no he’s not, maybe…” and then he did! I got all weepy and said “About time!” LOL We had been together for 7 years and 4 days at that point and I’d been joking with him that he’d never propose even though I knew he would eventually! Later that night there were fireworks for something else on the Cape but his parents joked they were for us! LOL
No down on one knee here either - he knew that would embarrass the pants off of me (and him too!). It was perfect!

I LOVE reading/hearing proposal stories!

My response was, “Ha ha, very funny!”

He had fake proposed to me in Home Depot before, so it was sort of a running joke to propose in weird places. As soon as I knew he was serious, I melted!

At least he was able to surprise you, Joey! That’s awesome.

I was so self-conscious that the mister would want to hear ‘yes’ as soon as possible, that all I could muster up was a nervous “yeah”!

My husband held on to my engagement ring for a whole month before proposing! It was hidden underneath our dresser. If I had even lknown it was in the house I would have torn it apart. LOL!
He proposed at Safeco field but not on the jumbo-tron. We were there for my dad’s retirement so a ton of family was there. He got down on one knee on the dirty ballpark floor! I was looking at him like,,WHY ARE YOU DOWN THERE? Until I saw the ring!
I love that Mr. Joey couldn’t wait to give it to you, so so sweet!

I wasn’t cooperating with the scheme Mr. Mascara had conjured up, he had the ring for a month before he could propose! But it was all worth it in the end! That’s so sweet that he couldn’t wait to propose! Can’t wait to see the ring.

Fiance and I went away together for a weekend trip to their college. While we were there we were planning on attending the Centennial celebration for William Smith College. Before the celebration began, we were walking around the campus and reminiscing about the time we spent on campus together. We stopped and sat on one of the benches overlooking a big lake the campus sits on. Fiance started talked about how we had met here six years ago and smoothly transitioned onto one knee. I started crying immediately. Fiance asked if I wanted to start our life here together as well and I could barely answer yes through my tears.

Christmas is really a big deal in both our families and we love decorating a tree. This year, we put on Christmas music and set to work unwrapping our ornaments (we wrap them in packing paper so they don’t get messed up in storage). I was opening one little bundle of paper and found a box instead of an ornament.

I stated the obvious — that it was a box not an ornament. FI prompted me to open the box. I did and he kinda blanked for a moment. Lol. He looked at me and I looked at him and he then said, “Oh right!” and got down on one knee to ask. I made sure that yes was the first thing I said. :o) Now I’ll look forward to decorating the Christmas tree even more each year!

Awww very sweet :)
FH’s proposal was also very simple and very us - we spent the day doing things we would any normal Saturday… breakfast at the harbor, car wash and dinner at our favorite restaurant. Then we took me to our bench behind a hotel, on the water, where we used to go a lot when we first started dating and proposed there.

What a cute proposal! My fiance hid the whole process of buying the ring, and I had no idea it was coming. He originally wanted to propose on a weekend during the day at the place of our first date, but he was way too anxious and couldn’t wait any longer. He proposed the very day he got the ring from the jeweler. He justified it by saying that the led light in the box was perfect for an evening proposal outside on the dock.
