The Time of Our Lives: Singled Out

March 9th, 2009 @ 2:01 pm by Mrs. Tiramisu

Okay, okay, I know this might make me unpopular, but we did (and loved) both a garter toss and a bouquet toss. We’re among the first of our friends to get married, and have a ton of younger cousins, so we had plenty of willing participants. What can I say, we like tradition.

With all the craziness of the storm/power outage, our timeline had been thrown out the window and we almost forgot about the garter and bouquet tosses. Our band reminded us at the very end of the night, and so we just jumped up on stage and improvised.

Please excuse the disheveled bride and groom in these photos- we had been enjoying a packed dance floor for a solid two hours before these photos were taken! My updo was no match for humidity, rain, hail, and many dance floor twirls- and I was having so much fun that I couldn’t have cared less.

Mr. Tiramisu gets the crowd going:

Dear Dress,
I am so sorry.
But I had so much fun.
I promise the mud was worth it.
Love, Mrs. Tiramisu

Victorious!

BIL Tiramisu, the Best Man, proves his title and grabs the prize.

Here he gets some counsel from a surely-sober guest.

Don’t get any ideas BIL Tiramisu, that maid of honor is happily married!

My turn! Who wants it!?

See, it was really so mean of me to force my friends to try to catch the bouquet. No one wanted it at all.

Especially not this girl:

Up it goes:

Were any of you really wondering who would catch it?

I know I’ve said this before, but next up is the final (final!) Tiramisu recap…

Don’t think I’ve ever seen any bouquet/garter toss as fun as yours! I absolutely love the enthusiasm, and you’re so right — dirty dress… so worth it!

The expressions on all the girls’ faces as they anticipate the bouquet is awesome! You did a really good job of throwing it nicely, too! I kind of hucked mine behind me and one of my friend’s hit the ceiling and fell apart, so good for you!

I’m still loving your recaps. I said it once and I’ll say it again: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a couple look so happy and look like they are having so much fun on their wedding day. You two rock!

We’re doing the toss! I think that if you have a fun and willing group of “grabbers” it’s totally worth it. We may sweeten the deal with an origami flower or two made out of bills on the garter and bouquet, though!

@andreaandchinelo: Thank you so much! I’m terrible with flowers though! I know there were hydrangeas, mini calla lillies, stock, maybe delphinium? There is a bigger picture of it in this post, maybe that will help: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/09/05/bridal-wedding-flowers/

@missbean: I promise I’m probably the most un-athletic person in the universe, so it was blind luck that it didn’t take out a paper lantern (or someone’s eye)!

@driftslikesmoke: Hehe, great idea! Just imagine the fights that will break out for that bouquet!

I think it’s sad that such great traditions have gotten such a bad name! Your guests were REALLY enthusiastic, and that is what makes it fun.

Wow! You really did have some enthusiastic bouquet-catchers! If I had more single ladies at my wedding I would do a toss too!

HAHAHA! I love that she caught it! And your ode to your dress…classic!

We’re doing the garter toss and bouqet toss as well, only since there will be NO single people at my wedding (it’s sad when you are the absolute LAST to get hitched…) we will be offering gift certificates to our fave restaurant for whoever catches them. But we’re not telling people that until AFTER they have caught it! (We’re sneaky like that!)
