Groom Style: Ties, Ties, TIES!

March 10th, 2009 @ 5:44 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

I am so excited about the ties my dear Mr. AC has picked. I will admit I was nervous about what he would pick. I wanted them to be “cool” but wanted them to be 100% his choice. Well, choose he did, and I am in love with the ties. I have purchased ties from Cyberopitix before, but Mr. AC hadn’t been introduced until recently. Once I introduced him to the ties, the ideas flowed.

His pick was this awesome tie called “swinger” - get it? They are swinging from the chandeliers. We are thinking either the olive color, or possibly a deep purple, to match the girls:

(source)

Here are some of his other favorites:

The Oak tie - He said, “This is up there as a favorite.” I love this tie and think it would be gorgeous for an outdoor wedding.

(source)

The Cable tie - for the music lover in Mr. AC

(source)

The “Flake” - for all of the great snow memories Mr. AC has

(source)

He also really likes the “Cuckoo”.

(source)

I think these ties will really give the groom’s style a boost. I am so excited for the pictures. Soon, I will share with you a “groom style” inspiration board!

Is your guy wearing a special tie? Where did he get it from?

Love those ties! Swinger is a tad bit morbid for us… but the oak tree is great!

I love this idea…it is so cute!!! Patterns on ties are so great!

I do have to say, the one with the chandelier does look a little like the guy is HANGING from the chandelier rather than swinging. Just didn’t want you to realize that later.

I can vouch for these ties…my husband bought them for him and his groomsmen for our wedding last October. They used to have a poppy flower design that we bought. Anyway, they are good quality and add a bit of style to the guy’s outfits.

Okay- to me it looks like the swinger guy is hanging himself. I would skip that one.
Oak tie is my favorite

Came back to comment…yes I thought maybe it was a quirk that you liked about the tie? … The only thing I think when I see it is that the guy is hanging himself.

But the other ones are fabulous and stylish! :)

I love these ties! I had stumbled upon this shop on etsy a while back and seriously considered for the guys. Now I think we are just going to go with plain black, but maybe I’ll get one for my mister anyways :)

I just wanted to pipe up and agree that yes, it does look like he is hanging himself. I can see after the second glance that he is holding on, but especially from a distance, I really do think people will just see him hanging. I’d go with the oak trees or the cable.

THose ties are the best! The Mr. got the Swinger for this past Christmas and we definitely plan on getting them for our guys - including the ring bearer! :)

i’m going to be honest because i would want bees to be honest with me.

my first thought was that the swinger looked like someone hanging. any chance the company could just silkscreen the chandelier?

I thought the Swinger looked like he hanged himself, too. But I love the Oak - it seems to fit the theme of your wedding well, from what I’ve read of your plans so far.

Hey there! Just a quick note from the designer - first, thanks for the lovely comments :)

But please note - our little guy is *SWINGING* - like “woooooo partytime”, not *HANGING* - we can be a little sick but not *that* sick. ;)

For clients who’d like just the light fixture, I can also mask the little guy off too. Please let me know if you have any further questions, I’d be happy to answer.

I love the Oak tree one and was thinking about it myself, but if the guys are wearing tuxes, would you actually see any of it? If I was having suits, I would be all over it!

I love these ties, especially because they are from Detroit! :) Had I not read Bethany’s comment, I would have said that the first tie was meant to be dark humor, which could come off as morbid at a wedding. I am actually surprised that she confirmed the opposite, slightly knowing her sense of humor from my club days.

These are beautiful ties, and while I appreciate the designer’s reassurance that the little guy is swinging and not hanging, that doesn’t change the fact that it really, really looks like he is hanging from the fixture and I think most guests would think that he was hanging from the fixture. Eek.

I’d like to point out that suicides hang straight down with their arms down…that doesn’t look anything like it!

Looks to me like a guy having fun swinging on a chandelier. BUT…I know what the real thing looks like so maybe I just don’t have the imagination of some of the others…

Cool ties!

I guess it’s cuz I can’t see where any arms are… I think 99% of people would see it and think suicide.

I think these designs are going to look awesome, though!

I stumbled across these awesome ties on etsy and def thought it looked like he was hanging, but on closer inspection I can see swinging. After all there is some rope/chain hanging down below the guy. Still I don’t know that guests will look that closely… I do think it could come across as morbid.

Well, to me it does look like hangman not a swinger. I would think, in a way, that it is funny because (this is a stretch here) the groom is hanging his single life???

these ties are really cool but if you are looking for something a little more traditional and cost-effective check out http://www.thetiebar.com. they are amazing quality for only $15–and trust me–none of your guests would ever be able to tell!
