Registering for the Lazy Set

March 10th, 2009 @ 2:45 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

Have I ever mentioned to you all that I am a laaaazzzyyyy bride? Well, I am. And when it came to registering for gifts, I chose not to stray far from my roots.

You may be wondering where Mr. Powder Puff is in this equation. Why am “I” registering for gifts and not “we”? Well, peeps, I hate to break it to you, but the mister was not all that thrilled by the thought of going to a store, wandering around for hours picking out the perfect salt shaker, and then walking out empty-handed. So, he left the task to me, but made sure to school me on “must haves” that I needed to add to the list.

This arrangement thrilled me at first!

Mr. Powder Puff can be a very twitchy shopper, which makes me all jumpy, and then I never end up getting what I need. With him bowing out I could be free to walk around the store at my own pace, to pick out the things I want, and to twirl in a field of flowers singing, “The Hills Are Alive!”

Well, maybe not that last one, but I was definitely looking forward to a day of indulgent semi-shopping. So I got myself over to the local Crate and Barrel and let the fun begin.
Or not. Oh believe me, there was some fun. Walking in the door was fun. Telling someone I wanted to register and getting that cool gun thingy was fun. The fun, however, ended when I knocked over an entire display of cupcake pans, making a huge ruckus. Yikes.

If fun wasn’t dead by that time, it definitely kicked the bucket after I wandered around the store for hours, feeling overwhelmed by the choices, and lost in a sea of linens and dishes.

What’s a girl to do? Hustle herself home and finish the process online, STAT!

Yes, I registered online and I am proud of it! It was easy, painless, and definitely embarrassment-free. I highly recommend it!

Any other lazy (or totally savvy!) online registry brides out there?

FH and I did our entire Target registry online :)

Mr. Bruschetta — who apparently is the antithesis of Mr. Powder Puff (SO excited to register and plan out his dream kitchen) — and I plan on refining our registries online, because it definitely is overwhelming and frustrating to try to do them all completely in-store.

One of the places we registered was Amazon. Some how registering online is so much less stressful!

haha miss power puff. I went to the crate & barrel on North Ave for their registry event. I spent a whopping 3.5 hours there and although there were a slew of other engaged couples when we started, my FI and I were the last ones out! I guess we were slow. :)

I couldn’t narrow it down to one (or two or three) store, and didn’t want to have a million registries. So, we used myregistry.com, which lets you aggregate products from all over. (anthropologie aprons; yes, please! organic pintuck duvet cover, h-to-the-yes!)

I began ordering online. Then I took my sister/MOH along with me to register for some store items. I know the mister would not have had fun with this task, so I took someone who would :)

We started out physically doing the registry at the store, then decided it was too hard and assumed the position on the couch with the laptop. So much better! :)

Oh Miss Powder Puff….we are similar in so many levels!

I, too, am a lazy bride to a degree. I’ll admit, I’ve done a lot of “tasks” online, throughout the planning process (some registering included!).

I also was sent to register at the last of our 3 stores alone…Mr. PG was a little restless and sick of spending his evenings doing registries. =)

online all the way! the other big benefit is that the online “stores” have more stuff than the real ones (stuff that might be sold out or not yet in).

We started in a real Sears and then I finished on the couch :) We ended up using myregistry.com because there’s not many stores in our small hometown and none of the ones that are there have registries. I think being able to combine shopping and my love of the couch is pretty much heaven :)

One of our registries is on Amazon and completing that one was waaayy more fun and stress-free than our Macy’s registry so I am with you!

My fiance and I went to Kohl’s and did the wholy gun thing. When they went to upload it they “accidentally” erased the whole thing. Argh! Instead of going through this again I just went home and created it online myself. Very easy, like a secret nobody tells you. :)

@Lauren: Wow. Why have I not heard of that before?! You can’t imagine how often I’ve wished Anthropologie had a registry!

In-store was just way too overwhelming for me. It was so much easier to look online and pick the things that I wanted.

We (or should I say “I”) registered online… mainly because the nearest mall is 3+ hours away. It definitely seemed easier, although there are some items that are in stores that we would have liked to register for that they don’t carry online. It’s definitely an easy-breezy process!

Hey Miss Powder Puff! If it makes you feel any better I went to one of the Crate and Barrel Registering parties and broke my full champagne glass all over the floor! VERY embarrassing! The fiancee and I registered for a few items in store (he got bored quickly) and I’ve finished up the rest online!
Much easier and less overwhelming! I’m with ya’!

Online - so much easier to manage. We (I) went to the actual stores at some point after registering just to confirm that I liked what I chose. And I did!

The nice thing about registering online is that you can read reviews and do research before you pick out what you want! So much nicer!

I’m planning my wedding from another continent, so I’ve had to register online! But I think it’s easier, you can see all your choices, and not have to wade through the PILES of stuff that they have! (But I did miss *touching* things…I like to touch before I buy…)

We went to the stores and were totally overwhelmed too! We aren’t getting married for a year and a half and are pushing it off for a long while…not as much fun as we anticipated!

We didn’t even bother stepping into a store and registered for everything online.

we 100% registered online… we went to the store once just to see a duvet cover in person but was a-ok with registering from the comfort of my sofa in my PJ’s ;)

I ordered the registry catalogs from Target & BB&B, had the FI circle anything he liked, and then registered for it all online. It worked out well for both of us. It’s much easier to compare things online than in the store, in my opinion.

We did *most* of our registry online, and then went to the store to check on a few items that you just could not tell online if they were the right color or quality. Online was definitely a beautiful thing, especially for a online-shop-a-holic like myself:)

We spent about 30 minutes inside a Target once, other than that, everything has been registered online!

I plan on doing our registry online, and am thinking of doing myregistry.com so that I’m not registering at a bunch of places

oh yes, online is definately the way to go. I did have a fun day doing “research” with my mom and aunt but in the end went home and did the registries online. I got to use the gun once when I went back to Pottery Barn to add some things they don’t offer online. But after reading about other Bees registering experiences - I’m bummed I missed out on any freebies! I didn’t even think to mention to the stores that I was registering!

I’m a lazy bride!! We’ve half registered at Macys and Crate and Barrel. I never bothered to finish either registries. Finishing everything online may be the answer to my little situation. Thank you, Miss PP!

I think its funny how everyone (myself included) thinks registering is going to be fun, and it ends up being the biggest pain! I hated registering, and we already need to go back for a few things we forgot. I am dreading it.

We did the majority of our first registry (the only one we’ve done so far) in store at Bed Bath and Beyond, but then I’ve added lots of things online since then!

I get what you mean about the jumpy fiancee, though! Mine will start harassing me in a playful way, juggling store items (badly!), and running off with our items when I’m taking too long shopping. It’s his way of telling me he’s ready to go. :-P

We didn’t bother registering at a store. Instead, we registered at rainfallofenvelopes.com and used the money to help pay for the wedding. We also used the money to buy china and flatware on sale at Overstock for less than half of what we would have spent at Crate and Barrel.

We started the registry online. We’re getting an extra after discount that way!

We started & got the bulk done in store (which earned us the fancy book o’free stuff), and we update mostly online, but also sometimes in store. I am blessed with a man who enjoys wedding planning- he is very helpful at coming up with ideas or tweaking them, he has no qualms over looking at paper for hours on end, and helping decide which shade of lilac is JUST right, and he really, really loves registering. That’s probably because this man rarely buys himself anything, so this is like a free-for-all! Did I mention how blessed I am to have this man in my life!?!
