About Mrs. Mascara

A Wedding Party Proposal

March 11th, 2009 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Mascara

When Mr. M and I got engaged, I decided I wanted to ask the girls to be my bridesmaids in a special way. Since the girls are spread out all over the place, I knew a taking them out to dinner was not a viable option. I didn’t want to just ask them over the phone, but I wasn’t going to see most of them for quite a while. I decided that sending something was the most logical option. But what would I send them? After searching the internet for original ways to ask them (I had not discovered the world of wedding blogging just yet) I came across a cute, yet slightly cheesy poem:

“Roses are red, violets are blue, will you be my bridesmaid? Please say I do!”

This sparked an idea… I decided I’d “propose” to them! So I searched and searched and searched (for weeks) for a pretty, yet affordable ring that they would all like. It was torture keeping the secret from them, especially since I saw one of the girls every day at work! Finally I came across this ring on Overstock, and I knew it was the one!

While waiting for the rings to arrive, I made each of them a card with the poem on it and a little personalized note inside.

Here’s a close up of the flowers. I cut little triangles out of cardstock with an X-Acto knife and glued them on in layers. I added a little piece of satin ribbon around the stems.

Here’s a close up of the dress. I cut it with the X-acto as well, and added a satin sash to dress it up a bit.I think I’ve seen every one of them with the ring on, so I think they liked their gifts! Either that, or they only wear them when I’m around! Overall, I was happy that I kept it a secret until I found the perfect way to ask!

Were you stumped for a creative way to ask your bridesmaids to be in your wedding party? What are some creative ideas you’ve heard of out there?

Very cute cards! I really like the dress and how you used little triangles to make the flowers.

Oh, that’s soooo cute! I didn’t think of a cute way to ask mine, I just asked in person. I wish I had thought of something cute to make them all though!

This is one of the cutest ways I’ve seen/heard of!
I wanted to do something really unique and cute but I’m horrible at keeping a secret! I ended up asking all my bridesmaids before I was even able to come up with a fun way.
I still made them all a personalized wine glass & card. :)

I think this is the BEST bridesmaid proposal idea ever! :)

I asked mine over the phone or in person, if I happened to see them…oh well!

very cute idea!! when i asked my girls, i did it in a similar way…i did not get them rings though!! the theme of our wedding is “meant to bee” and i decided this after seeing the movie, “the secret life of bees”. this is my favorite book and i read it a long time ago…the book to me really shows what true friendship is all about and also, what it means to surround yourself with love and what good can come of it….when i picked my bm’s i wanted to make sure that by FH and i would be surrounded by love…so i made really cute cards with fuzzy bees and flowers on them and then i bought each lady a copy of the book and mailed them to the girls…they all loved it and thought it was a special way to kick off the whole thing!

Super cute! I love that you proposed to them! I wanted to do something special for all of them…but some of my girls asked who I was going to have in my wedding, and I felt bad being like “basically everyone but you” because I hadn’t asked them yet. So for 2 of my girls, I just came right out and asked them after they asked who was going to be in the wedding! I still remember all of their responses, though. And I plan on making their gifts very special. I’m going to write a ’story’ and already have bought socks that have flying pigs on them…because I think most thought my FI and I would get engaged when pigs fly! :-)

Very Cute!! I wish I had thought to be cute and creative in asking my girls to be bridesmaids, but I absolutely couldn’t contain myself, so I called them all immediately while on a Mini-Vacation to ask them!!

The first thing I though was how on earth did she know their ring sizes…. Cute idea though! I love it. If I had the slightest inkling what size ring my girls wore I would maybe even steal it ;p

I too just couldn’t keep the secret from my girls. The fiance has been waiting for the right time to ask his guys, and I finally lost all patience and blurted it to my girls! I did write and send each of them a meaningful card though - I wanted them to know that I value their friendship!

That’s cute! I love the poem!

I made each girl a scrapbook with pictures from the past, our favorite memories, then I asked the question in the book and gave a top ten reasons for being my bridesmaid, with inside jokes for each girl.

Love the ring idea. I was boring and asked them in person, well one on the phone due to distance.
I wish I had done something cute like this……

I had to ask via e-mail (GAG) because I was half a world away! I wish I could have done something like that, although honestly I don’t think it would have been as cute as yours!!

How adorable! Your cards are so cute. :)

I asked my sister (who is an attorney) to be my MOH by having a colleague of hers draft a “Maid on Honor contract” for her to sign. It included stipulations that she would be contractually obligated to do funny things like plan a Bachelorette party without Jello shots and manage all other BM. In return, I compensated her by providing her a dress of her choosing and unlimited food/alcohol at the reception. :)

My sister, who is totally hilarious, thought this was great. She has it up on the bulletin board at her office.

I gave each of my bridesmaids, jr. bm and flower girls “mini” bouquets with a tag ribbon-tied to them with the note “will you be my bridesmaid?” they all thought it was really cute!

So cute! I wish I’d thought of “proposing” to my maids in a cute way. I guess a really sweet and thoughtful thank you will have to suffice, instead.

what a great idea!! I did something similar. I used pics from all the bridal magazine and made a scrapbook page with an engagement ring asking them to be a bridesmaids. I so wish I thought of an actual ring!

@LLauRRa: I honestly just guessed on their ring sizes. I bought a few 6’s, a few 7’s, and a 5 for my youngest sister. They all fit for the most part, although my sister’s was a little too big. Luckily she is still growing :)
