Signature Drinks

March 11th, 2009 @ 4:26 pm by Mrs. Joey

I’m not a huge drinker, but my favorite drink is the Classic Pimm’s Cup. What is Pimm’s? Well, it is gin-based beverage that can be served either on ice or in cocktails. It has a dark tea color with a reddish tint, and tastes subtly of spice and citrus fruit. It’s a very English drink, but the Napoleon House in New Orleans makes a killer version! I love it with a little lemonade and a few cucumber sticks.

So when we started talking about doing signature drinks, my first thought was that mine would be a classic Pimm’s Cup.

image

Classic Pimm’s Cup

  • 1 shot of Pimm’s
  • 2 shots of lemonade
  • a few slices of lemon or stick of cucumber over ice

Yum! It’s the perfect summer drink. The only problem with serving the Pimm’s Cup is the Pimm’s itself. The only way serving signature drink would be possible is if we buy all our liquor at the Coast Guard station. It’s amazing how much less liquor is there. Unfortunately, they only stock popular liquors and I’m pretty sure Pimm’s isn’t one of them. Should I have to forgo the Pimm’s Cup, I’ve found a few options to pick from.

The Moscow Mule

  • 2 measures vodka
  • .25 measures lime juice
  • 3 measures ginger ale

The Woo Woo! (I love the name!)

  • 1 measure vodka
  • 1.5 measures peach schnapps
  • 4 measures cranberry juice

The Monkey Wrench

  • 1.5 measures white rum
  • 3 measures grapefruit juice
  • 3 measures sparkling lemonade

Mr. Joey already has his drink. He’s going with the gimlet.

Gimlet

  • 2 measures gin
  • .75 measures Rose’s lime cordial

If we can’t get the lime cordial at a good price, he said he’s going with a Mint Julep.

Mint Julep

  • 2 ounces Bourbon
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup
  • mint

Did you have a signature drink? How did you decide on what drinks you’ll serve at your wedding?

Ha! I ordered a Woo Woo in a bar once just so I could say the name aloud. It’s delicious, so I ordered another…. And I believe that might be why it’s called a Woo Woo. After a while that’s what I was yelling! :-)

Love the Pimm’s cup!! I hope you are able to get the Pimm’s. It always makes me think of a summer garden party.

We are doing a bourbon based signature drink because our wedding is in kentucky. I think we are mixing it with Ale 8, a kentucky made soft drink similare to ginger ale.

I would love to have a signature drink; we really wanted Mint Juleps but because our venue is a winery we can only serve wine (of course) and beer.
I’m am really excited to be serving all our favorite wines though :)

mmmm… now you’ve got me thinking about Pimms…

We are thinking about doing a coconut rum and pinapple juice drink that we had at Bahama Breeze…the name escapes me. We are gettting married next to a lake and we think the drink about fit the “ambience”

My grandma’s favorite drink is a Pimm’s Cup, so we made sure to add a bottle of it to our bar at the wedding. She was touched that we remembered.

We didn’t have any signature drinks. We’re all beer drinkers, so we had beer koozies as favors. I’m classy like that!

Boyfriend has this idea for Open Bars and “Signature Drinks”:
1) We host (ie: pay for) beer and wine
2) Guests can order one of the following hosted drinks, but don’t get to be told what is in the drinks before they order it:
- The CHK: huckelberry vodka and lemonade
- The BoyfriendCHK: Crown Royan and Coke
- The DadCHK: vodka and diet squirt (suprisingly good!)
- The GrandpaCHK: whiskey and 7-Up
- The MomCHK: cheap ass boxed wine
- The GrandmaCHK: whiskey in coffee
… you get the idea. Kind of a fun way to make sure the important peole get what they want to drink, while incorporating the signature drink and (hopefully) not killing your budget!

Pimms Cup is so tasty. Since gin makes the best cocktails I would suggest a Fitzgerald (Gin, lemon, simple syrup, dash of bitters) or a French 75 (gin, lemon, simple syrup, top off with champagne). Our signature is probably going to be a white sangria–tasty, pretty, and afordable.

@LovestheBear: Thanks for the suggestion. We were thinking of a Sangria but I wasn’t sure how we’d get the pre-made stuff to the reception site. What would we put it in?

My fiance and I are working to come up with a signature cocktail. We want something with ginger in it since he’s a redhead. Haven’t figured out how to do it yet, but we’re having fun doing trial and error!

@driftslikesmoke: have you thought of Ginger Vodka and Sparkling Lemonade? You can infuse your own vodka with chopped up candied ginger. We did it once and gave it out as gifts.

We had a signature drink but gave it two names- one bar had it named after DH’s nickname and the other bar had it named after my college nickname- Vodka Strands. Since my name had vodka in it the drink was vodka based and I wanted it to be red. It’s hard to get red drinks let me tell you- they all turn out pink or orange. I had many trials at various bars before the wedding and the winner was the French Martini- we still have friends that drink them and still use the nickname we gave it. =)

Love this post!! {{Bookmarked}}

I want to do something sneaky for our signature drinks…I want to take really raunchy named drinks and rename them, then tell everyone (at the END of the reception) that they were REALLY enjoying:
Orgasm
Sex on the Beach
Slippery Nipple
Blowjob
etc!!

Because as I’ve said before…my wedding’s gonna be CLASSY! LOL

The internet is full of Pimm’s knockoff recipes. Apparently, desire to make it at home (and risk not getting the exact same product as the 6 people who know the recipe) increased when they made Pimm’s 25% instead of 40%, hehe.

This blogger in Iceland experimented with making their own Pimm’s since it isn’t importable to the island nation:

To make the base, mix 1 part gin to 1 part red vermouth and add half a part orange curaçao. Make sure the gin is at least 40% alcohol and of a high quality, or it will lack that vital kick.

Oops, hit submit too soon.

I love alcohol. I am a wine geek, a beer snob, a whiskey nerd, a grappa fiend, a sake aficionado… etc :)

So given my ridiculous, bookish and gourmande obsessions with so many types of different booze, I don’t know how I will settle on one signature drink. I’m waiting for inspiration to strike.

A lot of our wedding is inspired by art nouveau and absinthe. I don’t know about making it THE signature drink. Some guests might be freaked out given all the hype about wormwood. Still, there is a great somewhat-local absinthe and brandy distillery and I would like to make that available later in the evening for the adventurous.

Sounds delish! I’ve never had pimm’s!

We’re having mojito’s and vodka tonic with lime. Those are my favorite drinks for the summer. We’re also having beer and wine of course, but beer makes me sleepy (can’t fall asleep at my wedding!) and wine can make my head hurt. Alcohol tends to wake me up, give me more energy. I used to just drink whiskeys/bourbons/scotches, but that’s when I lived in a cold climate.

I am originally from England and I’m having Pimms as my signature drink. My family are bringing it over for me. My wedding is August 1st 2009 and I live in Chilliwack, Canada, just 3 hours from Seattle. If you’d like I’m sure my family could bring some extra over for you too.
