DIY, With A Smidge Of Help

March 12th, 2009 @ 5:53 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

Our invitations have become the bane of my existence. A series of technological disasters have caused me to want to throw in the towel and order the dang things online. But the price, oh the price! And all of the beautiful paper I bought would go to waste. What a conundrum!

Solution time! I was recently introduced to the wonders of Printable Press. Basically, it works like this:

Step 1: You choose from an array of gorgeous, and I mean GORGEOUS, invitation designs.
Step 2: Contact Printable Press to customize the invitation. Colors, wording, all of it, can be changed.
Step 3: You pay a mere $60, they email you the file, and you can print it on your home printer.
Step 4: You fling yourself around the room in a daze of joy nearing hysteria, because your invites are done, and they’re fabulous!

Check out some of their designs.

Beautiful, right? I still can’t get over the fact that you just print them out on your home printer. Genius!

Is anyone else bringing in some outside help for wedding projects?

I had to have someone print my invites. I was poop at screen-printing them myself.

Did you end up using them? I did the same thing for my invites, with Etsy seller mtkdesigns. I had a logo, STD & invites done for around $40…just a suggestion!!

I love Printable Press! I think I’ll design mine myself but if time gets tight I’m going to consider ordering from there!

I totally bought a set of (CUTE!) invites, but they have calla lillie on them…I’m using tulips…

So I switched over to a more DIY project, and this is just what i need (since I only bought paper, card stock, and envelopes!).

Alas, my poor other invites are in the classifieds…too bad I can’t afford calla lillies, LOL!

I just saw this on another blog — you should see this lady’s wedding dress — it’s so awesome.

This idea would be perfect to use with some of the less expensive letterpress printers — like with Mercurio Brothers you need to have your own design. Put the two together and you’ll have some amazing and relatively affordable invites.

What a super combination of DIY and professional work! I love that we’re expanding the “definition” of DIY around here… something doesn’t have to be 100% homemade to be considered DIY.

my cousin is a graphic designer. There is now way I’d DIY this wedding on my own. I should call it DIO (do it OURselves!)

That sounds like a fantastic deal!

That’s so neat! I was going to see if my sister (who has WAY more Adobe Illustrator skillz than me) could help with design, but in the event that doesn’t work out, this might be a good alternative. Thanks!!

So affordable! These would be great for wedding invites, but could also work (very cutely!) for a shower or rehearsal dinner.

Thanks for the info - those invites are beautiful! I’ve already designed mine, but those are much prettier. Now I’m thinking about changing it up…

Lots of etsy sellers will give you designs to print at home too. For some reason printing and cutting them is the most stressful part for me. I guess designing comes easy and I know my way around the software but I’m not crafty so I’m afraid I’ll ruin everything when I get it off the computer.

Hi, I was just told that Wedding Bee wrote about our site today and I’m overwhelmed by all the lovely responses! Just wanted to mention that for those of you who A) hate your printer, B) hate exacto knives or C) just don’t have the time to print and cut, all the designs can also be printed at Vistaprint or Overnight prints. It only costs about $30 extra! And thanks to everyone for all the lovely words.

Hmmm....

And if you get sent the right size file— you can print them up at gotprint.net. Seriously…I got my Save the Dates and invites printed there…spent a mere $70 and have professional looking invites. (Mind you– I did design them myself– but who can beat that price for 250 invitations and save the dates?)
