About Mrs. Pineapple

Love Again: Loved Always

March 12th, 2009 @ 1:19 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

The Rehearsal, Rehearsal Dinner, Rehearsal Dinner Gifts, Getting Ready, First Glance, Portraits

When I began my recaps for Weddingbee, Mr. Pineapple asked me if I would be able to mention his mom, even though she would not be in any of the photographs. I have never explained our reason for getting married early to the hive. It just never seemed like the right time. Well, now is as good as any, I suppose.

Mr. Pineapple’s mom was very sick last September, so Mr. P and I decided to get married early, just in case she wouldn’t be able to make it to our October wedding.

We wanted, more than anything, to be able to share our wedding day with our parents. So, the wedding in a week took place. My father flew to Pennsylvania from Florida where he joined my mother, who had been staying with Mr. P and me. The day after Mr. Pineapple’s mom was released from the hospital, she and Mr. P’s step-dad were able to see us marry. Just last week, Mr. Pineapple’s mom passed away, after fighting cancer with strength and courage for nine years. The services were attended by over 600 people and were an amazing tribute to her life. She will always be loved and dearly missed.

I’m so glad that she was able to be there for y’all. we’re in the middle of a similar circumstance, and i know that it meant the world for y’all (Mr. P, especially) that his mom was able to be there and know that her son was happy.
Many condolences, and know that she’ll always be with y’all in spirit.

Mr & Mrs. Pineapple - I am so sorry for your loss. It must be so heartbreaking for you both. I love that she was able to be a part of your marriage ceremonies, and hopefully will live on in your marriage. Thank you for sharing, as there might be others that need to do a wedding in a week for similar reasons - and you showed them it could be done!

Mr. and Mrs. Pineapple, Your loss really hits home for my husband as I as we were in a similar situation for our wedding, which coincidently was also on the same day as yours (Oct 18). My husband’s mother was diagnosed with cancer just months before our wedding and it was a shock to us that there was a possibility she might not make it to the wedding. But she did and danced with her son - I have never seem her more joyful than that day. She actually passed away exactly one week later and we skipped our honeymoon to spend her last few hours with her. I know we and the rest of the family really treasure the memories and photos we have from our wedding day. I will be thinking of you.

I am so sorry for you & your husband’s loss. (I know a MIL can be like a 2nd mother.) It was so kind of you to wed early for her to witness. (I wish my parents could see me tie the knot. :( )

Thank you for sharing your story. It helps to know that I am not the only one. We are going through the same process with my father. For others in a similar situation, I wanted to share our contingency wedding plans. We have talked with our priest about the possible need to marry early. We plan to marry at a Sunday service at our church if necessary. The priest was delighted by the idea, and I know that if we need to, we can have a wedding on a few days’ notice, complete with a loving congregation. We’ll do cake and punch after the service. Easy to put together in a few days. We checked on license requirements, and that’s about all that is needed. I found a local dress shop that has some off-the-rack options if we need to do this before my dress is ready. I also wrote into our (very few) vendor contracts that they would accommodate an earlier date without penalty if possible. We’re still hoping my father will enjoy health for much longer, but it puts all of us at ease knowing that we have this option. We’re marrying in a Protestant service, but for faiths that don’t accommodate a wedding in the routine service, I’m sure many officiants would ask the congregation to stay a few minutes after the regular service for a wedding.

So sorry for you loss. I’m happy for you that you got to share your special day with such a special woman.
My dad passed away last May, and unfortunately we were not able to get married in time for him to be there. He was sick for a long time but in good health and then declined very suddenly.

Even though weddings are supposed to be about the bride and groom, we quickly find out while planning that it’s not. I remember when you first posted on your wedding before your wedding and how you thought people would react if they found out. What you guys did was so incredibly thoughtful and unselfish and highlights what the day is really about….family.
