PoGo Fun

March 12th, 2009 @ 6:45 pm by Mrs. Piglet

I have ADD-ish tendencies. For instance, I have four postings in draft status, all partially written. Co-workers often complain about my inability to stick to one subject, and claim they’ve felt symptoms of vertigo when I present virtual meetings and alt-tab between five windows at lightning speed.

Wedding planning is no exception. I wish I could tackle tasks in a chronological order, but there’s no rhyme or reason as to what I’ll dedicate my time to. This weekend, I decided to think about our guestbook. I’m a huge fan of Polaroid guestbooks and wish trees (much like Mrs. Lemon’s), so my initial thought was to create wish cards with a place for guests to slap their photos.

When I first saw the PoGo, my ADD kicked in and I began thinking about sticker pictures and how much I love them! I wish I could say that the sticker pictures below are from back in the day when we were teenyboppers; but no, they are from last year. This is why I indulged in my PoGo purchase without thinking through how we would set up this gadget for use by our guests.

sticker

This midget-sized portable device can connect to your camera or cell phone (excluding the iPhone apparently), and print out 2×3 sticker photos. And the kicker is that it uses no ink. Inkless. Genius.

Here we are testing it out for the first time using a picture from my digital camera. We connected it using a USB cord, but it’s Bluetooth capable as well. I tested the Bluetooth connection with my Blackberry Curve, and it worked like a charm.

The printing started within seconds…

and out came a keepsake of my favorite Piglets…

Mr P is actually a huge fan of the PoGo. :)

Although a bit after the fact, there are a few considerations to note:

  • The PoGo can only be filled with 10 sheets at a time. Any more, and you risk damaging the printer. Although it’s not rocket science to refill the sheets, I placed them in the wrong direction the first time (after I failed to read the big blue card that explicitly stated how to load the paper).
  • Yes, the PoGo is user-friendly. Do I see my uncles and aunts taking the time to figure it out? Most likely not. You may not get everyone’s photo. Alternatively, you could ask one person to take photos and print them separately.
  • It’s kind of pricey. It’s $100 at Best Buy, and then you have to factor in 30 pack refills at around $13. But, there’s always Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, etc.

Now it’s just a matter of figuring out the setup of this thing at our wedding.

Did you buy something not knowing exactly how you’d put it to use for your wedding?

Yay!! I just bought POGO to use for our guestbook. Now I am searching the net for a cute book so people can write heartfelt messages next to the pics…keep us posted on how it turns out.

When I saw this posted on WeddingBee pro I thought this is what I was going to do. Now thinking logically and seeing the cost I might reconsider

I saw this at best buy and almost got one too! It is cute and could make a great gift for the guests..maybe a personalized frame as a favor and their pics inside of it?

That sure the hell beats out a plastic swan filled with Jordan almonds doncha think? (my favorite and most hated wedding favor of all time!)

I think I have a few things sitting around that won’t actually get used lol. I love this though - so cool.

I am so glad you posted about this, I have been curious!

Side note: I was trying to print labels for my mom (shower stuff) while reading this, and by mistake printed this blog entry, on the sticky labels! Photo stickers lol…

i want a PoGo too but haven’t got around to buying one.

it’s the digital version of the Polaroid - POlaroid to GO = PoGo, apparently.

the “printing” without ink is a similar technology used by the traditional polaroid films :)

thanks for the review! i’m going to put the fiance in charge of figuring out how we’re going to pull off a photo booth - this will definitely be on the list for him to research!

I’d also never heard of it — but think it’s adorable (I love anything cute and tiny!).

The POGO works great!
Our wedding was the week after the POGO came out in US market. I made my sister run
to Best Buy to get one (there is no Best Buy
on the island of Kauai). We used it for our wedding reception. I had a relative at the reception table take pictures of guests as they walked in(also made sure that she had them sign the guest book). After all the guests arrived, my sister and my aunt printed out all the pics and put them in the guest book for us!
Some guests really loved this and even asked for copies of their pics. This was a great buy.

@FutureMrsMorgan: The photo paper has embedded, heat activated dye crystals in it. No photo shaking necessary unlike its predecessor. :)

@bellenga: Hah! How have I never been at a wedding with a plastic swan favor? I’m missing out! I do like the gift frame as a keepsake for guests. Another friend did that recently at their wedding, and it was a hit!

@MightySapphire:

@Miss Taffy: LOL, I’ve done that many a times (at work of all places) where I type in something wedding-sih in an email. AHhh! Too funny!

@sky: We were using the AC adapter for all of our test runs. So yes, you’d have to plug this in if you were to leave it out for your guests use. I’ve read it prints 15 sheets on one battery (not all that impressive).

@Amber1279: I can certainly understand why you chose to reconsider if you can’t see yourself putting this to use after the wedding. Mr P claims this will help when he sample shops for work. :D

@FutureMrsMorgan: Nice! It’ll be such a nice keepsake for you and your hubby. We’re considering that, or the wish tree, or postcard type things. Who knows! There’s too many options!

@L: I think we’re going to have Mr P’s little brother do that for us! It seems like there’s too many factors to consider if you allow your guests to go at it themselves. Cool, that makes me feel better knowing it worked out so well for you! :)
