Wedding Schmedding, Take Me Away!

March 13th, 2009 @ 2:43 pm by Mrs. Latte

I admit it. I have, without a doubt, a Type A personality. And for a Type A-er, admitting this is hard stuff. I like lists that I can check off, I work best under pressure, and I’m incredibly task-oriented. I exhibit Type A behavior in most situations… in a meeting at work, a night out with friends, and especially in wedding planning.

But lately, a little bit of Type B is creepin’ in. The reception dinner location hasn’t been booked (gasp!), the groomsmen’s attire hasn’t been ordered (gulp!), and the invitations? Non-existent. Woah. Deep breaths, Latte.

Instead, I’ve been mindlessly surfing the web, daydreaming, excessively sighing and staring googly-eyed at pictures like this:

And this:

And this:

These are pictures of some of the gorgeous resorts in St. Lucia, our honeymoon destination! It took us a while to narrow down our options (there’s a BIG world out there!) and after wavering back and forth between a city adventure (like Paris) and a beach retreat (like Fiji), we decided on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia.

A popular honeymoon destination, the island is the perfect spot for the Lattes to cool down (hehe), unwind, and relax after the wedding. There’s a little bit of everything for us to explore. Beautiful beaches with awesome snorkeling. Breathtaking views of the ocean and the country’s two famous mountains, Petit and Gros Piton. Outdoor adventures like horseback riding on the beach, zip-lining through the rainforest, and visiting the world’s only “drive-in” volcano. (Not sure how that works exactly… but I’ll report back!)

There are gorgeous resorts around the entire perimeter of the island, but we’ve decided to stay on the Southwest coast, in the Soufriere area. This place has the most beautiful views on the island and is home to my dream vacation destination, Jade Mountain. Jade’s 24 “Sanctuaries” and 5 suites all have a unique private infinity pool (yes, you read that correctly…your OWN infinity pool) and an open wall with the most AMAZING views I have ever seen. Ever.

Check it out:

(This is not Photoshopped. I promise.)

(Bridges lead you to the “sanctuaries”.)

Wedding Schmedding, Take Me Away! : wedding honeymoon Sjade6

(Wow. Simply amazing.)

(Infinity pool? Yes, please. Gorgeous view? Yes, please. Massage? Oh hecks yeah.)

Unfortunately, Jade requires a venti-sized Latte budget. Our grande-sized budget would only give us 3 nights at Jade, so we’ve decided (well I’ve decided, and Mr. Latte has pinky-sweared) that we would try to go back for a 1-year anniversary mini-moon. And I’m not worried… pinky-swearing is taken very seriously between us Lattes.

This time around, we will be splitting our stay at 2 different resorts. The one I am most excited about is Ladera. Ladera has 6 villas and 25 suites, each with its own plunge pool and an open wall, which allows for some crazy amazing views! On top of that, their award-winning restaurant, Dasheene, is touted as one of the best on the island… and I love me some yummy food. I can’t wait to eat, sleep, relax… and eat some more!

(I could get used to this view…)

We are still deciding on the 2nd resort and are looking at either Anse Chastanet Resort or the Stonefield Estate Villa Resort. Anse Chastanet has a fabulous location right on the beach, which is supposed to be beautiful. The decor is fun, with Caribbean madras bedding, funky artwork, and wood accents. Jade Mountain is also located on this resort (it’s a resort within a resort), so just in case I get “lost” in that area, I’ll be able to get myself back to the correct suite. ;) The Stonefield villas are also close to the beach, and each has a private plunge pool, a hammock, and an open-air shower.

Here are some pictures for you to drool… er, I mean look at. (If necessary, drool away. No shame.)

So what do you think, hive? Anse or Stonefield? Anyone else honeymoon on beautiful St. Lucia or any other Caribbean island?

My vote is Stonefield! St. Lucia is one of my top choices (right now at least), but I haven’t done my research yet. If you don’t mind me asking, how much do you expect to spend on your St. Lucia experience?

We’re staying at the Excellence in Punta Cana! I hear the Dominican Republic is incredible! This place was more affordable than other Caribbean islands like Jamaica thanks to my bangin’ corporate discount! http://www.excellence-resorts.com/all-inclusive-resorts/caribbean/punta-cana-dominican-republic/punta-cana-overview.htm and i hear it is lovely. Those private villa pools look TO DIE FOR. Oh man. Thanks, now my cubicle feels so lame.

OH, Latte. You’re making me (and I’m sure lots of others) seriously jealous! I’m daydreaming at work.

Sometimes you just gotta focus on great vacay at the end of this mountain of planning. Thanks for reminding us!

I’ve had a coworker’s friend get married there, he stood at their wedding on the beach there. He said it was unbelievable. The only part he regretted was not taking more photos.

With September being hurricane season (and my goal to high tail it out of town as soon as the wedding is over!), the Stilettos are heading to Aruba for a week, as it’s south of the hurricane belt and should hopefully be high and dry…and sunny and hot :) Fortunately Mom & Dad Stiletto gifted us a week of their timeshare to stay wherever we could trade it, so all we have to pay for is getting ourselves down there! (and, of course, icy blended cocktails!)

my sister honeymooned in Ladera and STILL raves about it. i’ve heard nothing but great things from everyone who’s stayed there. just bring bug spray… and realize you have to “be one with nature”… totally worth it though!

Miss Stiletto - we are going to Aruba too! I feel the same way, I’m excited for the wedding, but the wedding is only one day. The honeymoon is six wonderful days of relaxation and no work!

Anse has a much better view! I would go there!!!

I am also absolutely obsessed with Jade Mountain. It is GORGEOUS!!! And, of course, very expensive. But, there really are great deals in the Caribbean during the summer. We’re headed to Anguilla and staying at the amazing Cap Juluca for ridiculously good summer rates. Granted, the island will be pretty empty, but we will have an awesome suite! We’re also splitting or time between two resorts and will be staying on St. Maarten for the other half of the trip!

Good luck! You can’t go wrong.

You are totally making me want to be on my honeymoon right this very minute. I often do daydream looking at our intended spot thus far, which is Cap Juluca in Anguilla. We have been to the Jalousie beach in Soufriere beach and let me tell you - you are going to have a phenomenal time. The beach in St. Lucia is the best we have seen, the water is like swimming pool water and be prepared to snorkel. You should also take a tour of the island, it is do diverse and we had a couple from the sandals resort on our tour so they can pick you up there. The people there are incredibly nice too! We actually still keep in touch with our tour guide, we sent him almonds for Christmas - PM me if you want his name. He is an ex-police officer and the nicest and funniest man you will ever meet. We will hopefully go back again someday!

*Le Sigh* St. Lucia was out of our budget, so we have decided to go (well this week anyway) to Jamaica.

@HeatherB618: we’re going in the summer so we can take advantage of their “low season” rates. rooms range at these 4 resorts range from 230-1150 a night (crazy huh?) and all depend on size, location and view. there are a lot of special offers too and we’ll be staying for a total of 8 nights (and 2 of those nights will be free!).
@ejs4y8: some of my co-workers went to punta cana and they LOVED it!!! the excellence looks amazing.
@notsojenny: that’s the one thing i’m a little nervous about…i’m terrified of bugs and not a fan of frogs, lizards, birds, etc. i may just sit behind the mosquito net the whole time but at least i’ll still enjoy the view! ;)
@Erin: i’ve heard awesome things about cap juluca! they’re in all the “best caribbean resort” lists and magazines. and an empty island is a plus in my book! :)
@flbeachbride: jalousie beach is one of the beaches ladera shuttles its guests to…can’t wait to check it out! and Mr. Latte actually read about an ex-police offier who givse private tours around the island! i wonder if it’s the same guy? hilarious! did his wife cook you guys lunch? i think that’s what we read…

i loved st.lucia, it was the first vacation da hubs and i took together. you’re gonna have a fab time! the locals are so proud of their moutains, the pitons, and their local beer named after them. if you’re adventurous, try getting on a van with the locals to travel from one end of the island the other. dh was scared for his life but i thought it was freaking awesome!

I just got back from St. Lucia! Not for a honeymoon (we are still deciding on where to go…our wedding is in August), it was a family trip. We actually stayed at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, which was nice but if I were to do it over again, I definitely would stay somewhere different—probably Ladera! You won’t go wrong with any of the options though. The whole island is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely do the zip line through the rainforest!! If you are a history buff or a hiker check out Rodney Bay!
