Mrs. Gloss's Picture
Mrs. Gloss, Boston/Maine Age and Occupation: 24, Designer/soon-to-be Architect Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Engineer Engagement Date: May 23, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: SS Katahdin/Lakeside Tent About Me: I don't like nickels or the skin that forms on pudding when it's in the fridge for too long. I couldn't live without Pantone markers, fountain soda (3/4 diet, ¼ regular Coke), run-on sentences, or ridiculously oversized sunglasses. I will try to DIY almost anything and am just OCD enough to make most of it work. I am truly excited about having all my family and friends together, becoming Mrs. Gloss, and having amazing photos to prove it!
About Mrs. Gloss

Hello!

March 16th, 2009 @ 2:54 pm by Mrs. Gloss

I am most excited to be the newest addition to the hive and to be Miss Gloss! Nonetheless, at first I didn’t think I was ‘Miss Gloss’ material. I don’t obsess over new shades, and would never wait in line to get the latest in the lip-gloss craze. After pondering it for a moment, I realized that I miss it when it is not there, and that I actually have 2+ tubes on or around me at all times – stashed at work, or in my car, and in almost all my coat pockets. Plus, a little shimmer and shine just makes me smile (and sometimes it tastes really good!).

Both Mr. Gloss and I are small-town Mainers (yes, that is what we call ourselves, except if you throw in the Maine accent it sounds like ‘main-ahs’) and are planning a ‘semi-destination’ wedding back home from our present location in Boston. We have been dating since high school, and will have been together almost a decade by the time we actually tie the knot! For 6 of those years we were separated by different states, and for about 6 months, a different continent. We have been able to make our ‘long-distance’ relationship work because we knew, very early on, that we would be together forever (although no one takes you seriously when are 15 and say that!) and that if this is what we wanted, we could make it work. Being together for such a long time has given a very practical edge to our wedding planning. It is more important to us to have a down payment for a house, than one perfect day (although I want them both)!

As a soon-to-be architect, I design space for a living and attended school for it for five long years.

I notice detailed things about places that no one else would ever see or be nearly as concerned about as I am, which made finding a venue very difficult! Fortunately, I have a decent chunk of DIY bones in my body and will try to recreate almost anything to save $$$ and make it my own. I have a HUGE list of projects to complete before the wedding (*I heart lists, especially when they are written with markers) and look forward to sharing them with the hive!

Since I wasn’t here for all the ‘Secret Life of Bees’ posts, I’ll share a few fun facts about myself to help you lovely readers get to know me better:

  • Guilty pleasures: Gossip Girl. Cole Haan. Passion Tazo Tea and lemonade from Starbucks.
  • Interesting things: I am taller than Mr. Gloss. I was the only girl in my entire fifth grade class. I hate cereal with sugar (I will only eat regular Cheerios).
  • I’m excited about: Getting a puppy. Having all our friends and family together for one great party. The LeCreuset teapot on our registry.
  • I’m embarrassed to admit: I like the sound of dirt being sucked up into the vacuum. There are ALWAYS clothes on the floor of our bedroom.
  • I will do anything to avoid: Touching old sponges. Going to the gym.

Well that about sums me up! You can look forward to many DIY projects, run-on sentences, and what to do when you realize that your perfect venue is not on land!

xoxo,

Miss Gloss

So excited to have another Boston bee! And Mr. HC and I started dating when I was 15 too, though we definitely did not think we’d be together forever. LOL. It turns out we will be.
