I Could Use a Little Help…

March 16th, 2009 @ 12:19 pm by Mrs. Crab Cake

See, I have this problem.

I have a great veil. But, I know I’m going to want to take it off the minute the ceremony is over. I feel like I should have something to put in my hair once the veil comes off.

I’ve been looking at birdcage veils. They are the epitome of vintage loveliness. I even bought Russian netting with hopes of creating my own birdcage.

So far, I have failed miserably at creating the perfect birdcage veil.

My biggest problem is I can’t get the netting to lay right. I always end up thinking my head looks enormous. Plus, we’ve already discussed how I feel about things in my face.

And once again, I’m back to that same flower verses comb argument in my head. So, I’m calling on you, hive, for help.

In case you need it, here is a reminder of what my dress looks like.

I want something vintage (either authentic or repro, whatever) and sparkly/pearly.

What I do not want are feathers (I think), or ginormous flowers that take over my head.

That being said, here are my favorites:

1. This piece is reclaimed vintage (and could be my something old, which I am still lacking). The seller is willing to remove the feathers if I wanted her too. I’m afraid it’s a little white for my champagne colored dress. But, it’s hard to tell by these pictures.

2. This one is also reclaimed vintage. I really like this one, but I wish I could see it on someone’s head. I’m not sure how that bronze color will look with my gown.

3. These are also reclaimed vintage. I like these a lot. They are simple and classy.

4. Reworked vintage earrings. Love!

5. Not exactly vintage, but still gorgeous. I’m not sure how well it will match my gown, and I’m definitely not happy about the price!

6. One of my absolute favorites, and it includes all my colors. But is my dress a flower kind of dress? Or does it really need something just a touch more formal than flowers?

So, hive, what do you think?

Which hair adornment should I choose?

I think it’s really important to consider what “goes” with your dress, since you’ve already bought that (and clearly LOVE it!). I personally think that a comb is a better choice than flowers with your dress. Your dress IS more formal than some others, and the adornments on it would be complemented by a little more sparkle in your hair. I think a flower might look like a mis-match. I love #2, and I think the bronze would go well with the champagne of your dress- they don’t have to be a ‘perfect’ match since they don’t rest next to or on top of each other. That said, I also think you could get away with #1 since it has some pearls and sparkle, and it’s sort of in between a flower and a comb.

Whew, that was long. They are all gorgeous!

I like the second one! It’d be gorgeous in your hair and I think it matches in terms of formalness with your dress

I actually just purchased #6 for myself! :) I LOVE IT! But for your dress I think #1 or #2 would look best!

I would say 1 - but then again, I’m not the girl who wants everything to “match” - I think that’s part of the vintage/reclaimed character, that the colors are complimentary but not matchy matchy - good luck!

I’d focus on overall style more than colors - and all of your choices here are beautiful!

And even if the colors are a little off, you’re going to have trouble finding anyone who’ll notice. Especially with your hair, face, and shoulders between it and the pin.

#1 definitely stands out as being the most unique. It makes a statement, but is still delicate and not overwhelming. So beautiful! Adore all the vintageness! :)

I’d ilke to make a note on #2.

I ordered a similar hair clip/comb thing from that seller as well. She’s located in Australia, so the shipping took over a month.

The product I received was beautiful, however it was tiiiiiny. Much smaller than I pictured. She also sent me a piece with amber crystals, when I ordered them with clear crystals.

If you order that clip, be specific with your order, ask lots of questions about the size of the clip, and allow a long time for shipping!

Great selections. I like 3 or 4. I purchased no. 6 for my wedding, I hope it goes well with my simple dress. Good luck!
