I Need a Friendly Kick, Please!

I gained 3 pounds the past couple of weeks. Combine family birthdays (mine included) with less time to exercise since I’m working on getting my little labors of love out to the post office this week, and it’s been bad. I feel sluggish, gross, and like I fell off the horse.

I just joined a weight loss challenge for more accountability. For the next 20 weeks (and beyond), I will be back on the horse. The first weigh-in online is Friday, which is great. My diet resumes tomorrow, because darned if I’m gonna restrict myself on my birthday! :)

I don’t have to lose weight for the wedding, but if I can hit those 230s, I’ll definitely feel like a rock star!

Have you noticed that wedding planning or your personal life has gotten in the way of your health/fitness plans? How did you overcome it all?

You can do it Miss Ballet Flat! It’s so hard when you have an “off” week– but remind yourself how FAB you feel when you work out and eat healthy. I’ve been sluggish at the gym recently, but my husband and I have resolved to go 5 times a week again, and I already feel better.

YES. Life is getting in the way. I haven’t gotten through it yet. Finals are this week, followed by out of town appts for wedding related stuff. I just feel, recently, like there isn’t enough time to relax.
But getting an accountability partner always works- but mine are all busy and off the wagon too! Argh.

Try not to let it get you too down. Sometimes when I fall off the exercise wagon I feel ad about myself and eat another slice of pie, cookies, or scoop of ice cream to make me feel better (I’m a total emotional eater!). The best thing to do is exactly what you are, join a club and jump (or run!) back on the wagon with full force. You can do, be the Rockstar!

Life is definitely getting in the way. I feel like there’s not enough hours in the day to just work, eat and sleep never mind plan this crazy wedding AND exercise/watch what i’m eating :)
That being said, I guess we just have to buck up and get on with it! I’ve been following your efforts and you’re doing awesome, this is just one small hitch and now’s the time to recover and prove that you’re really doing this for life and not just a-couple-of-weeks-to-fit-in-the-dress. You can do it!
PS Happy Birthday!

You can do it girl!!
I also fell off the wagon…was loosing..and then stopped paying attention for a week..and sure enough, the weight came back!

I really like this site that Miss Avacado recomended. It is called Fitday.com and you can track everything you eat. I found this calorie tracking to be VERY helpful.

I tell myself that life will only get busier than it is right now. Add in some kids - it is only going to get more hectic. So if we don’t learn how to make time for our health now, we never will.

I agree with Erin. It’s about changing your everyday lifestyle even when it is crazy.

I have two pieces of advice gained over my 50 years. First, when you say you don’t want to restrain yourself, let it be your actual body that determines what you eat on your birthday, not a sense of flinging caution to the wind. Eat with respect. Second, when you feel hunger in the weeks to come, just imagine that that sensation of hunger is actually burning the fat off your body. Because, it is. Hang in there.

My personal life has gotten in the way of my plans. Partially my surgery made it impossible and then my crazy schedule does not leave much time to go to the gym on either end of literally a 14 hour day. I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself and be really good about my diet. As soon as school gets done next month, I’m heading to the gym.

We’ve been having a biggest loser competition at work, and i was doing great, but these past couple weeks- stress set in, and up went the scale. Its really hard to stay on track ALL the time. Just stop for a minute, and realize that you are allowed to slide here and there. I am actually reinspiring myself to go to the gym right now for a pilates class. I havent been there in well over a month… just try to stay positive

YOU just motivated ME! I just joined! And I totally needed that little kick and your post (especially that photo of the girl on the scale, that was me this morning!!) just did the trick!

Take a deep breath, enjoy your birthday, and get ready to start the rest of your life in a happier and healthier place!

Don’t sweat it, you have plenty of time. Having a little indulgence is perfectly fine, especially for your b-day. My biggest roadblock was that I was doing everything myself, so I was exhausted everyday and fitness was the last thing on my mind. However, now that most of the planning is done, with exception to our RSVPs and little details, I’ve been working out 3x a week to just let out steam and keep my mind off of too much wedding planning. Let’s see if that work out!

Hey Miss Ballet Flat! Please don’t worry about the 3lbs. Female weight fluctuates 5lbs each month depending on our cycle. If you know you’ve been eating less healthy and not exercising enough then just start after your birthday. You can do it. I found that my going to the gym improved greatly when I printed out a free calendar from http://www.calendarsthatwork.com and then gave myself a sticker each time I went. I hung it on the fridge so I could see it there and if I was feeling like I was too busy to go to the gym, the calendar was there to be a visual reminder of needing to go or not. You can also check out a real cool website I started using called http://www.stickk.com. Here you set a goal for yourself…anything at all and it emails you each week to see if you met your goal. If you did….yippie! If not, you can set it up to deduct money from your credit card to go to a charity or a friend….or an enemy! It’s awesome! It’s been really helpful for me to break my bad habit of staying up late. GOOD LUCK! Keep at it! You can do things you never thought were possible if you persevere and take baby steps.

Join sparkpeople.com!

It’s completel free and it’s amazing. I lost 20 pounds using it last year (and then I gave up and gained much of it back. I should have stuck with it!)

It’s like facebook but it’s good for you.

3 lbs are really not anything to worry about! My body weight can fluctuate 3 pounds by the DAY, depending on what time of day I weigh myself, what I’ve eaten and drank that day, and (ew) whether or not I’ve gone to the bathroom yet that day. Extra motivation is always a good thing, but 3 pounds is not something you should beat yourself up over.

I’ve totally fallen off the wagon as well - I was really sick for two weeks and then work got really busy the third week and I wasn’t getting home till really late. I told myself I HAD to go tonight - and then I had to stay late at work again! It’s frustrating!!

KICK :) You can totally do this . Remember that this isn’t about a one time thing, it is a lifestyle change. You will not be perfect all the time, but you CAN and HAVE begun to make better eating and exercise decisions. I know this sounds super cheesey, but I recently purchase Bob Harper ( from The BIggest Loser) book ” Are you Ready?” I would highly recommend it. It talks about changing your negative thinking and encourages you to keep a food and exercise journal. I have lost 15 pounds in three weeks , but more importantly after year of dieting I finally feel like i am changing old behaviors and replacing them with healthy routines. good luck and keep it up!

Definitely getting too busy to work-out. That is always the first thing I let go. Enjoy your birthday and jump back on the horse. Good Luck!

Don’t be down. It’s all the little steps that add up. My friend and I are holding each other accountable. Every week, we go out to a vegan restaurant and make sure we did the things we promised to do (restrict sweets, brought lunch to work, go the gym at least 4/wk, average 45 min workout, etc). And in case we’ve fallen off the horse, we immediately call each other to get us back on track. So don’t worry, you’ll be making progress ASAP.

Btw, Happy Birthday!

For me it has been all about moderation. There are no off-limits foods, but I also refuse to let myself overindulge on anything that’s not 100% good for me (basically plain veggies or the occasional fruit). So, for a birthday, I don’t go all out and chow down on cake, ice cream, and indulgent meals. I just let myself have a moderate portion of a delicious treat. It’s really working for me.

I also need a kick. I’ve been so busy with other things that I haven’t found the time to work out like I need to be.

Happy Birthday! Eat cake today, start tofu tomorrow! I fell off the wagon when I had a minor surgery a month ago, then had so many after-work appointments that taking care of myself fell aside. You’re not alone! Throwing out the girl scout cookies is the first step (for me!). If you eat right and exercise moderately, you’ll be at your goal weight! Or at least know that you got darn close and you feel great! Try a trainer maybe? I know they are pricey but man you get results! Or group classes…those are my secret weapon.

This weekend, I was majorly bad… I went home to New Orleans for our shower & my bachelorette party and to pick up my dress. Being there, all of my healthy Denver eating habits went out the window. I had cake at the shower, went to an all-u-can-eat fried catfish dinner, ate pizza, and of course drank quite a bit of alcohol. Now that I’m back in Colorado, the temptation of good Louisiana home-cooking isn’t there, so I’m cracking down and eating a lot of veggies.
