GOCCO!

March 17th, 2009 @ 5:19 pm by Mrs. Gloss

The day after Mr. Gloss proposed I was online buying a Gocco and a ridiculous amount of supplies. I had been eying them after seeing the amazing invitations made by previous bees, and stalking the Gocco Flickr stream, like, every day. When it arrived on my doorstep I didn’t really have anything that I needed to mass-produce, but I couldn’t wait to try out my new toy! Enter PaperSource, a girls bestest friend. I walked out with waay too many flat and folded cards (with matching envelopes, of course) with the excuse that I would make amazingly cute note cards for a friend’s upcoming birthday.

Without further ado, my first Gocco experience:

To start I watched this fantastic explanatory video. I really think this lady has been exposed to way too many Gocco flashes. Although, I’m not going to lie – I enjoy her immensely and have found myself watching other PaperSource tutorials just to get more of her!

I made my design in Illustrator and had decided to start with something simple - but I’m also way cheap and wanted to expose two cards for the price of one. I haven’t printed the second card yet because I need to wash the first screen so it doesn’t get on the SECOND print. But this is the first one - inspired by Kate Spade, obviously!

The pictures don’t do it justice (I swear I actually have a half-decent camera). Apparently I just suck at taking pictures. Anyway, this is the final product. The text says, “just dropping a line…” and the navy ink for the arrow is actually embossed, so it’s raised just a little bit off the page, which I think gives it a little extra pizzazz.

So this is my inked screen. I used red and navy, since it had a nautical theme. You can just barely see the second image in the center. (Actually probably not at all, but it’s there! Also, please note the fantastic Barbie pink mani.)

GOCCO! : wedding bridesmaid diy 08 061202 And here is the completed set. I also did little arrows on the envelopes; I should have done these first and then added the second ink (red) and done the cards, but I wasn’t thinking, so I just put down scrap paper each time I printed, and now have tons of little pieces of paper that say, “just dropping a line…”

Same day – new project. This one was inspired by a trip to Michaels where I found this super cute dress stamp.

Again, sorry for the blurry photo. These were the “Will you be my bridesmaid?” cards I made for my ladies. I got the stamp, cards, ink pad, and embossing powder and heat gun at Michaels. I bought the Fiskars corner punch at Jo-Ann.

Really, these were so easy to make -

  1. Stamp card
  2. Pour powder on wet ink
  3. Shake off excess power
  4. Apply heat gun until the powder/ink combo gets shiny and raised
  5. DONE

Anyway, it looks so much harder than it is, and it takes so little effort for such great results!

Are you a DIY bride? What’s the first big tool you bought for yourself after you got engaged?

Ooooh, I desperately want a Gocco! Where did you find yours, Miss Gloss? They seem to be as elusive as a date with George Clooney….

@Nothing But Bonfires: I bought mine @ Paper-Source, unfortunately I don’t think they have them anymore. The Weddingbee classifieds are a good place to look though - I always see a few popping up there.

These are awesome!! How did you combine the gocco-ing with the embossing??? Did you have to put the powder on right after using the gocco? How long before you used the heating tool? Thank you for this post!

My first purchase was my Xyron Sticker Machine! I’ve spent quite a few $$ at Paper Source myself. :)

I just got the GOCCO this week too!!!!! Isn’t it amazing?? My fiance got me the ‘big shot’ embosser/diecutter for my birthday earlier this year and that’s a great tool too!! You can use all the cuttlebug/sizzix folders and dies!

How did you get everything to line up so nicely for the Gocco?? And…where are you buying supplies??

These are so cute!! I wanted a gocco but didn’t get it because I was worried about the supply issue. This makes me really tempted though…

Yes I have always been into DIY. The first big craft item that I bought was my Cricut!!! Which I just love my little bug! I was going to get a GOCCO but I had to really way the pros and cons for me personally and decided to go against it for now!
I think the next thing I want is a Xyron Sticker Machine!

@AliCherri1: I had made these before the ‘gocco shortage’, but even so - I figured I should do a test run with it so I wouldn’t mess up the more important things!
@Taetae23: To emboss with gocco ink, just pour on the powder right after you stamp the image (so the ink is still wet). You don’t have to hit it with the heat gun right away, you can wait until all your cards are stamped and powdered, then shake-off any excess powder and use the heat gun until it gets hard and shiny!
@Emie Mullins & Shay: I love my Xyron(s)…I may have different sizes :)

My first big purchase after getting engaged was my sewing machine! I knew I wanted to make a lot of things myself for the wedding and couldn’t borrow my mom’s since she lives in MI and uses it too. Enter sewing machine as christmas gift, and I was good to go!
