Mrs. Martini's Picture
Mrs. Martini, New Jersey Age and Occupation: 30, Telecom by day, Superhero by night Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Investments & Finance by day, Hip hop dancer by night Engagement Date: May 24, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 18, 2008 Venue: The Venetian About Me: Things that make me happy: Haribo Happy Cola gummies, TV shows on DVD, buying books although I never read them, 80’s rock ballads, ramen, and of course Mr. Martini! He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

It’s no surprise that wedding planning, in a nutshell, has been pretty crazy. I wouldn’t really say I was super busy at first, but I was still pulling my hair out about insignificant things. All my friends have been so supportive and they have been offering their help to me unconditionally. The only problem is, I don’t know what to ask for. I don’t know how to delegate.

And so I spent most of my days stressing about nothing and everything, and not getting anything done.

Mrs. Bee has always said that hiring a day of coordinator was the best thing she’d ever done for her own wedding. I considered hiring one, but Mr. Martini was pretty confident that we would be able to do it without a DOC. He actually helped coordinate my best friend’s wedding a year ago. Not only is he fascinated with the wedding industry, he thought it was a great opportunity to get an idea of what it would be like to plan his own wedding someday. Fortunately for him, he is super organized, focused, and has a mild case of OCD. Unfortunately for me, I can’t concentrate on one thing for more than five minutes, and Mr. Martini lost interest in the little details of the wedding once all the big things like venues and vendors were taken care of (curses!! I was hoping he would plan the whole darn thing. Is that too much to ask?). So, I was left alone with my unfortunate predicament - absolute terror and wedding anxiety.

Mrs. Bee knows me well, and she knows that I have a huge problem asking for help.

I mean, she’s the encyclopedia of all things wedding, and I didn’t even know how to ask her for help! Then one day she gave me our wedding gift early - a day of coordinator to hold my hand throughout the rest of our wedding planning. But Mrs. Bee was mean… so, so mean. She told me this in the middle of a workday, and I had to leave my desk and run to the bathroom so nobody would see me tear up. What a thoughtful gift; she gave me peace of mind.

Christine Viola of Exquisite Affairs also coordinated Mrs. Peony’s and Mrs. Canary’s wedding. I’ve been working with her for some time now, but I planned to write about her after our wedding, since I will be working more heavily with her as the big day gets closer. But I’ve had such wonderful experiences with her lately that I couldn’t help but share. Every time I’ve emailed her, she has gotten back to me super fast. Even when I ask what I think are dumb questions, she answers immediately.

But the real kicker was when I had to set up a conference call with our band. About a month before the wedding, a conference call with the band leader is required to go over the details of the wedding and order of events. I sheepishly asked Christine if she would be interested in being on the call, and she immediately responded with an enthusiastic yes. An hour before the call, she sent over a general itinerary she set up for us. During the call, she asked questions Mr. Martini and I didn’t even think of. When we were asked questions we couldn’t make a decision on, she was there to step in and offer her own suggestions from her experience.

This last couple of weeks has been extremely busy. I am getting married in less than a week, and there is just so much to do! Everyone always told me that the last month is crazy, and although I did my best to mentally prepare myself, it’s been hard to keep calm sometimes. But I’ve been emailing Christine all the details of the wedding, at all times of the day and night whenever something comes to mind, and she’s been on top of everything. She’s also the sole contact for all vendors for the week before the wedding, and just that alone gives me one less thing to worry about. Having that peace of mind, knowing that there is someone who will take care of everything for me on that big day, makes me feel so much better.

Are you using a Day of Coordinator for your wedding? What has your experience been like?

Yup! We are using a DOC. I started getting stressed out about who was going to make sure that all my little DIY projects were set up how I wanted them, and my fiance was starting to freak out about how much I was freaking out! I have to say, it’s a big relief knowing someone will be there in the last few weeks to handle all the details so I can have fun and hang with my friends and family. After a few meeting with different people, we ended up choosing Tealight Weddings. She is really sweet and has been on top of everything already! Love it!

How wonderful of Mrs. Bee! :) I give mad props to anyone who does it without some sort of coordinator. We hired one for ‘day or plus’ (that was the package! I’ve probably already e-mailed her 100 times!

You deserve it girl! Mrs. Bee always talks about how kind and funny you are. I’m super sad we didn’t get to meet in New York but I will come again :)! People kept telling me the same — get a DOC! And I didn’t. Totally regret it. My friends worked too hard on our wedding day! I feel horrible about that. I underestimated how much work there would be on the day-of!

In only a week! You must be so excited! Yes, we have a coordinator–she comes with the venue. She’s doing all the timelines and details stuff and is the central point of contact for all the vendors. However, sometimes it seems like her main job is to just shake her head at me and tell me “no”! Although she is professional and reliable, she’s not exactly the enthusiastic woman you describe!

thankfully yes and I lover her! It’s so nice to talk to someone who is honestly as excited as I am. She also reminds me to take care of the things I could care less about which is a nice kick in the rear when I need it! good luck on your final week! can’t wait to see pics!

Originally we were not going to go with one… and then our guest list doubled– meaning way more set-up. There was just no way, so I convinced J that it was in need in order for me to have a stress-free day. I had already been having nightmares!

Wow, you have a great friend in Mrs. Bee. I’ve been doing everything on my own and didn’t think I needed one, and FI thought that I can put it off! He would know since I’ve been orchestrating the whole planning. Guys! A couple of months ago I started to think about who to put in charge for various tasks, and that’s when I realized that I needed a professional to overlook everything so that I don’t start my day on a bad note. Our DOC was pretty impressed by the amount of work I’ve put in, and she has been very prompt with e-mail responses. I will be meeting with her in a few weeks to go through our timeline, walk through of the venue with other vendors, and she’ll be at the rehearsal. I’m content.

I so want a DOC, but not sure we can afford it since we’re paying for most of the wedding by ourselves. *sigh*

I’m terrified somethings going to go wrong, or our friends will be working and not be able to enjoy the day. Now i’m off to buy lotto tickets so I can get me some DOC…

I’m so grateful our location offers a DOC! I’m sure it was built into the general cost of our wedding, though, so it’s not like she was *free*, haha. You better believe I’m getting my money’s worth out of that lady! I call all the time with questions and she knows who I am. “Oh yes I know which bride you are”. ha =]

I really want to, if I can fit one into the budget. We haven’t picked a venue yet, but some of the ones we’re looking at come with coordinators - would they fulfill the same purpose? Or are they there just to make sure that other vendor deliveries go smoothly and that’s it?

I REALLY want one. I’m already stressing out -it’s 15 months away!- about how everything will get done that day. And I too want our family and friends to actually enjoy the day!
The FI doesn’t think we need one because we will only have about 100 guests. I don’t think guest count has anything to do with it.
But with a tight budget and already by third calculations over it I don’t know where the hell I am going to nip and tuck around enough for one.
Her prices are very reasonable! I was quoted 1k for one outside of the city. Hm.

Mrs. Bee was Christine also the one you used?

Will have to look into her.

My fiance gave me this gift. I was going to do everything myself, but when worked pulled me away to travel for 3 months and I couldn’t plan, he set it up. WHAT A BLESSING! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my DOC and she really wasn’t that expensive when you think of wedding coordinators, well worth the money, not including the money she’s saved me in other vendors.

psst… ay! can u ask mrs.bee if she’ll be MY friend too?

@Miss Gloss: girl i hear you loud and clear

i didn’t have a DOC, the venue coordinator acted as ours and she was good at keeping things going smoothly but didn’t help with setting up the details. we couldn’t fit a good doc in our tiny budget and i didn’t wanna waste money in a cheap one that’s crappy! and though it could’ve been better in the details department, i think mine worked out ok in the end but it took an enormous amount of planning ahead (and of course all the stress that goes with it).

oh and, i would bawled outta control AT MY DESK had someone gifted me that! :)

I love my Erica (Wedding Planner - DOC) and it is great to know that she is always there whenever I need her help or just want to bounce an idea off of her.

Unfortunatly I had to find her after my original wedding planner left the state, never told me oh and with my $$$! So I had to get a lawyer involved it was just a big mess!

But I am thankful that this happened to me becuase I have learned that going with your gut feeling is important just as much as researching!

We can’t afford a DOC… :-(

I’m hoping that since we only expect 25 guests it won’t be a huge issue, but in reality I know that 25 guests or 250 guests, you still need someone to work out all the bugs. I won’t ask my mom to do it…she’d drive me crazy. Maybe one of my SILs…

Christine is also my DOC and she is AMAZING. She’s sweet, incredibly quick to respond, resourceful, creatives, and tries to help keep things under budget. She’s the best money I’m spending on this wedding, hands down, and my goodness, what a bargain, too. I don’t know how she does it all, but I am so happy to have her helping me out!
