Because Y’all Are the Best at Ideas

March 17th, 2009 @ 1:14 pm by Mrs. Cheese

Hello, hive! I need some creative suggestions, pretty please.

We’ll be placing a handwritten note of appreciation at each guest’s seat. Since I didn’t hand-write our invitations as I’d once imagined, I’m really looking forward to getting a chance to express how much I (ahem, “we”) love and appreciate each person in our lives. The letter writing I can handle (I’m a well-practiced letter writer), but I need some help deciding how to jazz up the plain white envelopes.

I considered putting our monogram on the outside, but that seemed a little, I don’t know, narcissistic. I mean, if I write a thank you note to a friend, I don’t put my initials on the outside. I could just write their names nicely, but that’s a little boring.

Will you help me choose?

A: the guest’s monogram or initial

source

B: a tiny picture of the guest with one of us (this is harder and more time-consuming, but I’d love it if I was a guest)

source

C: something else (tell me more in your comment!)

Which should we choose?

How about a simple design — floral, swirly, etc. — you could emboss on along with the guest’s name?

If you definitely have a picture of each guest with you or your fiancee I’d go with this idea! :) I imagine it would make each guest feel very special, it would me at least!

I think a picture would be so special. If that’s too time consuming I think Bruschetta’s suggestion for a simple design is a good option.

I just wanted to send support and thumbs up for this wonderful idea. We wrote a note to each guest as well and I really think it was worth the time and energy. We had 99 guests in the end, and I think people appreciated the time we took to thank them for being part of our lives, and for traveling so far for our wedding. However, the note-writing WAS time- and labour-intensive, so perhaps it’s best to pick a simpler outside design. I feel like the note itself will be so personalized, you don’t need to do something super personalized for the design. Maybe?

I really like the idea of the note & the tiny picture. It makes it feel extra personal & special.

i like the idea of doing some sort of design, flower or swirl rather than names/monogram or the photo.

Doing photos would be neat… but ONLY if you have the extra time. I wouldn’t stress yourself out! Otherwise, you could create a simple letter for the outside.

I like the idea of a pic with the guest or guests. It would definitely be time consuming, but it would be so worth it in the long run. Then you would have a memento of each of your guests and they in turn feel special :)

While I really love the idea of the tiny picture, it may be hard to come up with a picture of you with every single one of your guests before your wedding day. If you can, go for it!

Here is another suggestion. On the outside of the envelope just simply put “On our wedding day…” and the letter inside would go into how you want to take the time out of your special day to thank all of them for making this day so truly special for you, etc. Just a thought :)

I love that you’re cognizant of appearing narcissistic. So many people think their wedding day allows them to be so. It’s refreshing not everyone is so self-absorbed. :)

I think the monogram is pretty and not at all narcissistic. However, as a guest, I would be incredibly impressed by the level of detail in your planning if you went with the guest picture route.

If you had the extra time and energy the photo is awesome touch but don’t stress yourself! The monogram is beautiful!!!

Why dont you find an aspect of your wedding or other DIY projects like something swirly that can be stamped on the side of the enveloped and embossed. I personally wouldnt go crazy because I think its the little things that matter most to people.

I love this hand-written note idea. How many guests do you have? My fave is definitely a picture of one of you with the guest. We’re going to do a picture wall with twine and clothespins to hang the pictures–that way, we aren’t stuck if we’re missing someone either.

If you’re willing to do the photos, I think it’d be so nice and special! I’ve been to far too many weddings where I felt like I was attending a “show.” Special touches like this are so key for a sweet event! Great idea. :-)

I’m also voting for Miss Bruschetta’s idea :)
and I also think your monogram would work as well b/c the note is from you.

Great Idea– and I love the little pictures. We are tossing this one around to incorporate using pictures of one or both of us with the guest…. and yes, it’ll be time consuming…but I think part of the fun will be the search for the right pic!

Pictures would be cool but do you really have one of you with each guest? If not, I vote for Bruschetta’s idea!

I like Miss Bruschetta’s idea of a little motif/icon that fits with your wedding. Otherwise, I like the monogram idea, but I’m all for simplicity!

@Miss Cowboy Boot: Good question. At our Knoxville reception, we’ll probably have 75 guests. I don’t think I’ll do this for our hometown reception because we won’t have assigned seating, but I’m still thinking about it.

The biggest challenge will be the “and guest” people. For the most part, all of our friends are couples, but we have a few that we don’t know well (or at all). I’m thinking that I can either use a funny picture of their significant other, or maybe a goofy dog or cat picture. Must brainstorm more….

The picture idea is just so special. Even if you don’t have a picture of you with that guest, maybe do some magic with Photoshop and create one, or even just have a picture of the guest. It is more time consuming, but the reward will be greater in my opinion.
