Mrs. D'orsay's Picture
Mrs. D'orsay, Baltimore/Lancaster UK Age and Occupation: 24, Stay at home fiance (formerly in nonprofit communications) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Web site developer and designer; co-owner of men's skincare shop Engagement Date: August 10, 2008 Wedding Date: August, 2009 Venue: Oakland Manor About Me: I'm a Maryland raised environmental policy wonk/activist/organizer and communications aficionado. In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!

Ankle FAIL

March 18th, 2009 @ 1:29 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

I love the FAIL blog. On Monday, if someone had taken a photograph of a particular incident, I would have been on it. We’ve tried to plan ahead for my proclivity towards injury and have made a few wedding decisions on what to avoid. For example, we’ll be dancing in the ballroom instead of on the brick patio to avoid tripping and falling. If you take a peek at my bio, you’ll see that I’ve been banned from rugby and soccer until the wedding. I thought that meant full on, organized sports. But it turns out that the rule should have been applied in blanket force.

I looked out the window and saw Mr. D’s little cousins playing with a rugby ball, so I naturally headed outside to forget about dinner on the stove play with them. We had a few fun runs, and then… BAM. I rolled over my ankle and am now confined to RICE (Resting, Icing, Compressing and Elevating). This means I can forget about doing the 30 Day Shred with my pal Jilian, or dancing with the NYC ballet, since I now have a big, swollen, squishy ball for an ankle. I’m hoping Mari Winsor and I can still hang out for 20 minutes at a time with that stupid circle, because I don’t want this setback to get me down. In the past few years I’ve had several concussions, broken my foot, and have sprained/ripped apart my ankles multiple times. All this, along with the mother of all injuries: I had one of my ACL (knee ligaments) reconstructed. So, you can see why the ban was in place… if only I had listened to it.

What that ultimately means that picture like these:

are definitely OUT for the wedding day. Maybe once we get back from our honeymoon we can have a day after shoot, where it won’t matter if I can’t walk when we finish…

Anyone else accident prone? Are you planning ahead for the big day?

I feel your pain! I am a total accident prone klutz, especially when it involves spraining ankles or pulling ligaments in my foot. I practically have my orthopedic surgeon on speed dial. I once broke a tiny bone in my foot just stepping off an escalator! I have jokingly told my fiance that I may have to ban myself from the treadmill for a month before the wedding or risk some minor incident that leads to me falling off, twisting an ankle, etc.! I have definitely taken myself off the spring softball team roster at work this year. Normally I look forward to it every spring, but I fear that this would be the year that I get hurt or bang myself up in some way that would have me kissing my 3 inch heels goodbye on my wedding day or having my makeup artist working overtime to cover up random bruises! Keep up the RICE - it works!! :)

Oh, I totally am!

(And hey, on a side note, is anyone having a problem with the menus and stuff from the right side of the page encroaching on the blog posts? I can’t read all of this post fully!) :-(

Heh, just spilled a can of soda on my keyboard as I started reading this post. And you know I was thinking at the time, “Gosh, I’m glad I’m not accident prone!”. Um, yeah. I totally am.

LOL. I’m glad you know about the awesomeness of FAIL Blog. Whenevery I’m in a bad mood, it always makes me laugh. My FI is also banned from Rugby…. after about a million concussions and a shoulder surgery, he now takes it easy. Hope your ankle heals soon!

OH, I am first excited to hear that you play rugby. I was tempted to insert a game of touch into our wedding weekend in Tahoe, but after much consideration it was thrown out. I might implement something for the day after?
I actually am going to our Alumni Game the weekend after the wedding in Reno and am so excited, but like you, have jello for ankles and am restricted from any major contact sports until the wedding for situations you’ve found yourself in.
I am sorry you are hurt right now, but I am sure you’ll bounce back in time to have some of those fantastic photos, ruggers usually do!

I don’t have a lot of accidents, but I CONSTANTLY misjudge the width of my body and as such always run into edges of desks, doorways, etc….and I always bruise.

Oh no! You poor thing! Definitely rest your ankle and play nice with Mari Winsor. I laughed at “that stupid circle”. I played basketball for years. I didn’t sustain as many injuries as you, but I know how you feel. Keep your spirits up!

LOL, I freaked out when I tore my quad playing soccer. I rested it for a couple weeks and then…against all better judgement…I started playing again!! I quiet my conscience by saying I’m just playing goalie now so it shouldn’t matter…but I know this won’t end well…(at least my team will keep WINNING games?)

I guess there’s an upside to the white drinks only rules - none of us can spill anything red on ourselves or anyone else.

I hear ya girl. I’m a tad accident prone myself. My fiancee has to make sure nothing is around I can hurt myself on and usually I do anyway.
