Quick and Easy Save the Dates

March 18th, 2009 @ 10:53 am by Mrs. Cheese

Back before I started obsessing over fonts and stressing over text, I threw together our Save the Dates in about 10 minutes. They’re not the most amazing, unusual, surprising, or unbelievable Save the Dates, but they are cute and they were quick. And cheap.

std1

That’s the front, created by adding a single line of text to one of our engagement pictures.

stdbackblurred

And here’s the back.

I used VistaPrint and am very happy with the quality and price. I signed up for their email specials, and while they do spam you a bit (Daily emails? C’mon!), you can dig through them all to find the best deal when you’re ready to order. I only paid for shipping. Yup, I got 100 full color postcards for $12.00!

So there you go. You can, if you so desire (and have the skills) make fabulous Save the Dates, but if you lack either and have one great picture and 10 minutes, you can have happy ones.

i love them!!!!!! simple and clean but definitely still cute and full of character. i agree about VP - they send some good offers your way but MAN do they love to clog up the ole inbox!
shutterfly.com also has good specials but they only email you once or week - maybe less.

That’s almost exactly what I did… for our invitations! I didn’t get *quite* as good a deal, since we also created a few rsvp cards and hotel information/directions cards for the older folk, but I was pretty proud of getting our entire invitation suite done for around $90.

These look great! I’m so addicted to handwriting fonts right now - Have you ever visited http://kevinandamanda.com/fonts/fontsforpeas/
You can turn your own handwriting into a font!

Miss Cheese, it’s great to have bees that remind us all of the value of doing things simply. Not EVERY aspect of wedding planning needs to be a saga of laboured decisions, negotiations or battles with a glue gun! I loooooove your save the dates. Very sweet, and all that’s needed at the end of the day.

They look great! Does Vista Print put their name or logo anywhere on the card when you use their deals? Mr. Ducky seems to think they do, but I’ve never heard of that.

I second West Coast Bride! It’s so nice to see something simple yet completely fabulous. I’ve gone back and forth over what to do for STDs and I think I want to just go the route you took. Easy-peasy!

whoa! I know this is off topic, but you’re having a party in Las Cruces? That’s where I went to school, and now I live three hours north of there! How exciting :). I love the simplicity of the Save The Dates. It says and does exactly what it’s needed to do!

Those are SUPER CUTE! I LOVE that picture of you two :)
My original idea was to do Vista Print postcards, but they evolved into more after mom my wanted to put them in envelopes so people could come to our house and steal stuff while we were in SD for the wedding… a little crazy, but it happened to her neighbor growing up.

I would love to use Vistaprint too, but I haven’t decided if I’m going to go the postcard route or magnets. That looks really cute!

@Miss Duckling: Vistaprint does on some stuff, but you can ALWAYS take it off, so Mr. D shouldn’t be worried about it. You can score some really great deals from them, shoot, even free address labels!

I also second Miss Gloss’ suggestion of Fonts for Peas, they’ll even turn your handwriting into a font and for FREE! They did mine (Lillindy) here: http://kevinandamanda.com/fonts/fontsforpeas/pea-lillindy/

@West Coast Bride: WCB, thanks for reminding ME. I’ll try to remember that when I return to obsessing about invitations!

@Miss Duckling: Nope! Of course, I used my own uploaded image for both the front and back of the postcard, so maybe that’s why?

@Newport Nuptials: You can just sign up.

i’m stoked that you did this! i want to use vista print for post cards (was gonna do the whole magnet thing but in order to save cost… plus you save on postage!) but i’ve done a few things with them and some have turned out great and a few have turned out not as great of quality, but you said the postcards are great (which i haven’t tried yet) so I will definately be doing my postcards through them like I have planned!

Vista Print is fabulous! We use them for cards, address labels and gift tags. We almost used them for magnet save the dates, but decided to go another route. The font is awesome and thank you to Miss Gloss for the heads up about creating a font from your own handwriting. How fabulous!

My fiance and I did the same thing. We used Moo and printed up postcards using 5 different pictures. The savings on the postage alone was what sold us on the idea. It was so easy, and relieved some of the budget stress.

I think this works so well because you use an image that reflects you and is casual and fun and is in line with the font which is also casual and fun and is is line with the effortlessness. Which is also casual and fun. So you get the impact without, as others have so aptly said, fighting with craft tools. In case I wasn’t clear, this is very casual and fun:).

@LPC: You crack me up. In fact, this is why I’m struggling to design invites that I like. They’re so formal and lack the silliness that we dig. Must go back to drawing board.

hey hey hey ms. cheese! lovely save-the-dates!

i used Vistaprint for my save-the-dates as well!

we used our basic photo editing software in our laptop, added texts here and there and uploaded it on Vistaprint as a fridge magnet!

i couldn’t believe how inexpensive it was! Vistaprint is the best thing on the internet!

Second to weddingbee, of course! ;-)

UGH I am so jealous! I ordered through Moo.com but my words came out pixelated and blurry (despite a CRYSTAL CLEAR upload photo!). But ours are postcards too, and I’ve been having a heck of a time figuring out what to write on the message side!!

Please don’t use Vistaprint or recommend it to your readers.

Using Vistaprint could very likely lead to you being signed up to FAKE discount clubs and hundreds of dollars benig taken from you Visa/bank without your knowledge or permission.

I have a huge blog post with all the details of all of the different scamming sites Vistaprint and Adaptive Affinity run and how best to get a refund.

http://www.hubbers.com/index.php/i-got-scammed-by-vistaprint-and-adaptive-marketing-and-adaptive-affinity-ltd-and-amazon/

If you don’t believe me check this blog and the scores of comments form people who have been ripped off!
