I always knew I wanted to incorporate as much snowboarding into our wedding as possible. Snowboarding is the one great passion that Mr. Martini and I share, and it seemed like the perfect way to personalize our wedding. I always knew I wanted to name our tables after trails at Stratton Mountain in Vermont, which is the place we call our “home mountain”. We had a season pass last year and went, literally, every other weekend.
The issue was, I wasn’t sure how to display the names. My original thought was to take a picture in front of the signs and place them on each table. But there was a problem - the signs aren’t always standalone, and are actually grouped together, like this:
Then I thought maybe I’d take a close up picture of the sign, and display that. But I just didn’t think it would look nice. I was pretty stumped, until BM E suddenly suggested, “Why don’t we just MAKE the signs?”
That seemed like a wonderful idea, but how? How do you make it realistic enough? And with what? I’m not a DIYer!
She sent me a mock up she drew in Word, and we spent the next few days brainstorming. Actually, she brainstormed while I just jumped up and down excitedly. By this past weekend, I was finally ready to buy the supplies and tackle this project.
Paper Presentation in NYC (18th between 5th and 6th) had all the supplies I needed:
Other supplies we used, which are craft staples: X-Acto knife, a paper cutter, and craft scissors.
BM Elle created the sign letters in Word with Arial font, and then flipped the image, so that once we cut them out, the black line of the letters would not show:
I was really going to dive into these by myself, but somehow, and super last minute, a few friends offered to help out. So we invaded Mr. Martini’s apartment (hey, in just one week it will be mine too!) and pretty much destroyed the place with paper and glue.
I love Cutterbee craft scissors. They’re the best!
Trying to figure out the best way to cut the foam board
And by the end of it all, we got these:
I’m in love with all of them and I’m super excited. I didn’t even imagine it would turn out this great!
We knew that it would be tough for guests to find their tables since they are not numbered, so BM E (she’s a machine!) created a “trail map” of the tables:
To complement the signs, we went on up to Stratton a couple of weeks ago to take a few pictures of us in the snow. I would have LOVED to do an engagement session or a trash the dress session on the slopes, but alas, it wasn’t really an option for us. Because of this, I really wanted to have at least one snowboard trip reserved to take pictures for our tables. We tried to take 21 different poses (for 21 tables), but after the 5th or 6th pose it was pretty hard to come up with something that was creative. We got sick of it pretty quickly, because the conditions were so great, and we just wanted to board! We’ll probably have to double up on the pictures, but I’m okay with that because I really love how some of them came out. Here are a few of my faves:
And my two absolute faves:
Last but not least - one more snowboarding touch. My awesome cousin, who created our Save The Dates, also drew us the perfect, most adorable place cards. Names and tables are not done yet (I know, I know - it’s crunch time!), but here’s a mock up of how they’re going to look:
