Centerpieces

March 20th, 2009 @ 10:54 am by Mrs. Gloss

Centerpieces : wedding decor reception Vases Oh yes, I am the proud owner of 80 of these bad boys.

My plan of action (POA) is to line 4 of these down each table with flowers of varying heights and types but in the same color family… say, orange or yellow.

I snatched these up at IKEA and I think they provide the perfect simple, but modern DIY centerpieces for our tables. And at 4 per table (of 8), each couple could take one home if they wanted to.

I feel they are budget friendly - they were $1.99 each, and I figure if I can find flowers for an average of $2/$3 per stem. So, the 4 centerpieces for the table would come to a total cost of between $16 and $20. Judging from other centerpiece costs, this seems reasonable.

I didn’t price out actual centerpieces and haven’t talked with any florists yet.

What are you ladies expecting to pay per table for your centerpieces?

Ikea’s great! :-) I love your idea for different flowers from the same color family — what are some of your favorite blooms?

Adorable! :) They just opened an Ikea where I live and I need to get my booty there soon, those cute vases just confirmed that!

Those vases are going to look great! We found ours at the dollar store. I think we’re going to buy flowers wholesale since we’re going with simple centerpieces. I haven’t priced it out yet but I should do that soon!

Such fun vases, Ikea always has great finds. Did you see the Style Me Pretty posts the other day with a bunch of DIY centerpieces with materials from Ikea?

We had our florist price out two different options for us. One was tulips underwater in a rented glass vase. The other was some different purple flowers in a 6″ blume box. Both options were priced at $10 a piece.

Those vases are awesome! Honestly, if you just plan on putting a few stems with possibly some greenery in each, you dont even need a florist.

Buy the flowers yourself and cut out the middle man! That’s just my opinion though. A resource people often overlook are the local grocery stores. Most people dont want to buy Stop & Shop flowers for their weddings, but the truth is that S&S gets their flowers from the same EXACT flower suppliers as the fancy floral shoppe up the street. (Believe me I used to work at S&S Floral Dept.) You can get a beautiful 10 stem bouquet of roses for $7.99. Tulips, dahilas, or mums would look great in your vases too.

For my centerpieces I’m planning on spending $15-20 per table.

I bought my vases at the dollarama in my city. They were $2 a pop as well. My florist gave me the option of renting vases, which actually turned out to be more expensive than just purchasing them. I just could not understand how I could pay more for something guests couldn’t take home. In my circle of friends/family; guests are often invited to participate in a “challenge” to win the centerpiece at their table (mine’s going to be simple: guest with birthday closest to my wedding day will win– that way my dad and my fiance’s dad will win ;) )… and this fit the bill really well. I opted to have my centerpieces done instead of DIY’ing it.. the venue is farrr and their access times are tight. The peace of mind of having someone else do it all for me is worth it at $40/table (for a nice full assorted shades of pink rose bouquet centerpiece.)

great vases. I think you may have a hard time finding flowers for $2/$3 per stem though. I live in the middle of nowhere and they still want at least $4 per stem for economical flowers like gerbera daisies and mums.

(also, incidentally, on a sidenote, they are opening North America’s LARGEST IKEA in my home city within the next few years. It currently boasts North America’s SMALLEST IKEA.. which is really funny to make that gigantic leap … Can’t wait.)

We used similar vases from Ikea… did you go into the store to get them like we did? Mr. T was pretty embarrassed as we filled our cart up with so many! I think your centerpieces are going to look great!

Love, love! My bff and her hubby had ikea vases (clear glass) and we took two home! I love seeing the vases as a reminder of their day and the great time we all had, and the bestie was tickled pink when she saw them!

I used these for our centerpieces at our wedding in September ‘07. They were placed three on a table with a chocolate brown silk table runner. I used pink gerbera daisies (a grocery store ordered them in for me) with the brown centers (just one per each vase) and also added a folded over long leaf and added taller willow branches…People fought over them at the end of the night so I was glad that I chose to do my own centerpieces. Good Choice!

Those are beautiful vases! One thing I’m learning about right now is bulk order flowers. You can get them at Costco, the grower’s box, fifty flowers, the flower exchange, etc., and they are just as high quality as the florists, but no mark-up value is added so it really is so much cheaper.

Good luck!

We paid about $8 per table but I ended up selling my centerpieces afterwards so it really worked out to about $3 each!

I’m a fan of the “let guests take them home” philosophy!! And only $1.99 each? How great is that price??
Ours cost $58 for 6 centerpieces, so at about $10 per centerpiece, I’m happy.
