Mrs. Sea Breeze, Vancouver/Dominican Republic Age in 2008 and Occupation: 30, Communications Manager Fiance's Age in 2008 and Occupation: 29, Experiential Marketing Director Engagement Date: October 6, 2007 Wedding Date: November, 2008 Blogging Since: July 17, 2008 Venue: Majestic Colonial Resort, Punta Cana About Me: Planning a destination wedding by the sea should be (oh no she di-in't…) a breeze (…*sigh* yep, she did) but when you've never been to the Caribbean, your powers of imagination are really put to the test. Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). Other than writing about our week-long celebration of family, friends, laughter and love, I adore books, shoes and… you guessed it… long walks on the beach.
About Mrs. Sea Breeze

Once we had determined that Mr Breezy was the head of the household forevermore, it was time to head into the restaurant to drink my sorrows away eat our scrumptious dinner.

For a few different reasons (including one big one that started with 17 and ended with 000) we chose to forgo a private reception in favor of dinner in the public restaurant by the beach followed by a speeches and dancing at the disco. DW BRIDES, TAKE NOTE: it turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made. The staff set up two long tables of thirty for us and you know what? All that time I spent stressing about how it might be weird to be surrounded by other resort guests during dinner? Big fat waste of time. We didn’t even notice they were there!

Of course, that might be partly due to the fact we were all so distracted. By our awesome dinner game, that is.

I’d like to tell you we spent hours contemplating what to do during dinner since our speeches weren’t until later, but the truth is, Mr Breezy sprang this game on me the night before the wedding. I still have no clue where he got the idea (and why he waited until the last day to tell me about it…?!?!) but I LOVED IT. And I think you will too.

As Mr Breezy said in his own words, “It’s really the one part of the wedding that was driven by the guests and not the bride and groom.”

And with crazy fun guests such as ours, it was guaranteed to be a memory-maker. Though to look at them, you would never, ever guess they’d ever do anything remotely ridiculous… right?

WRONG!

So here’s how the game works.

You know how at wedding dinners everyone always clinks their glasses to get the bride and groom to kiss? It’s cute and all, but let’s face it: for your guests, it gets pretty boring after awhile.

This game guarantees audience participation.

Before the wedding (preferably not the night before, but hey, whatev), write down every couple’s name on a little piece of paper and put them all into a little bag. Not all our guests were couples but that’s okay since that’s half the fun. Simply pair them up to make interesting combinations (you’ll see what I mean soon).

Before dinner starts, have your MC explain the game to everyone: whenever the majority of the guests start clinking their glasses, the MC will pull a name out of the bag. Then that couple has to do… something… and the bride and groom have no choice but to copy them.

Let the fun begin!

Our first couple were Ma and Pa Breezy. Awww.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 3 3

So cute! Though Mr Breezy put up a bit of a fight, I had no problem copying that one.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 4 4

The tameness did NOT last long. Because our next couple? Were two guys. Who were not exactly a couple.

One was Mr Breezy’s friends, Dave (of earmuff fame, if you watched that snippet of our ceremony video), and one was my cousin. However, they both have one thing in common: they are CRAY-ZAY. And they proceeded to make sure Mr Breezy and I put on quite the show.

Oh boy, here we go.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 7 7

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 8 8

After that, it was NO HOLDS BARRED.

Mr Breezy’s sister and her husband were up next and proceeded to show us how to keep things interesting.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 9 9

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 10 10

I think our faces said it all.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 11 11

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 12 12

Watching my cousin lick his wife’s arm all the way up to her ear gave new meaning to the word ’sexxxxxxy’.

Now THAT’s what I’M talkin’ ’bout. Mr Breezy, I hope you’re taking notes.

Next we drew Mama and Daddy Sea Breeze. I was a little apprehensive about this (who wants to see their parents make out?! EEK! Not me!!!) but they kept it classy and drew a chorus of ‘awwwwws’ just like Mr Breezy’s parents did.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 18 18

That’s right, hubbie. You may have gotten the vodka, but now you must pay homage. KISS. THE. HAND.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 19 19

Again, PG-13 displays of affection did not last long.

Our friends Y and M were up next and they took things to a whole new level. A new VERTICAL level, that is.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 21 21

Much to the enormous amusement of our guests (there may have been some chanting involved), Mr Breezy and I had no choice but to follow suit. He hoisted me on his shoulders and paraded me around the room.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 22 22

Enormous fun!!!

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 23 23

(Photophil must’ve been either laughing too hard or adjusting his camera… or both. The two photos above were non-Photophil ones.)

J and K reminded us that it’s not a real party until someone starts taking their clothes off. And a strip tease is soooo hot when the guys wear ‘wife-beaters’ (sorry, I know that’s terrible, but the fact is, it couldn’t be further from the truth, and so we keep calling them that for fun).

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 24 24

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 25 25

J just did that to make Mr Breezy take off his shirt and show his ‘wife-beater’ tank, I just know it! Well at that point, he couldn’t refuse a dare.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 28 28

There was even some kissing thrown in for good measure. Take that, J! (Please make note of K and J… they will make another funny appearance in a future blog post).

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 29 29

But by popular vote, the number one funniest dinner game antics were by my SIL and her man.

They stood up, faced each other solemnly, and put their hands under their armpits and stuck their necks out…

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 30 30

… and began an absolutely HILARIOUS chicken clucking-flapping-scratching dance!

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 31 31

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 32 32

Everyone KILLED themselves laughing - including random people at nearby tables!

We had no choice but to fluff our feathers, claw the floor and do some chicken cluckin’ of our own.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 33 33

I grew up on a farm so I could do this with my eyes closed, but man, was I impressed with Mr Breezy’s clucking! GO, ROOSTER MAN, GO!

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 34 34

And there you have it. The funniest dinner game I personally have ever seen.

Oh yeah, and the dinner? It was DELICIOUS.

DW in the DR: Dinner Game Hijinks : wedding pictures punta cana recap 35 35

Do tell - what is the funnest/most unusual dinner game you’ve played?

Thanks to Photophil Steingard and Michael Steingard, we captured plenty of ridiculous footage that our children will use to tease us for many, many decades to come.

Hee! I grinned all the way through reading that.

And I love how, when you’re on Mr Breezy’s shoulders, your dress still reaches the floor … that dress was made for a 7ft tall woman! :)
