Hobby Lobby is My New Friend!

March 20th, 2009 @ 1:23 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

I have been constantly thinking about the ring bearer’s pillow for the ceremony. They are so pricey at stores and on Etsy, in my opinion. I was starting to lose hope, and was thinking the impossible: DIY. I say impossible, because I haven’t sewn a day in my life on a machine. I love DIY, but I wasn’t about to take on a brand new craft two months before the wedding!!

Last night, I went to Hobby Lobby to get another scrapbooking marker for our DIY invites, which will be sent out MONDAY! I’m really excited about that! I was walking towards the scrapbooking section and saw a sign for 50% off ALL bridal items. So, of course, being the thrifty girl I am (remember me loving clearances?) I checked it out.

By the way, this looks to be a nationwide Hobby Lobby sale until Saturday, as seen in the ad here. Also, here’s a 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon if you want to get something extra for the crafty person in you!

Anyway, after looking around the two aisles, I found a ring bearer pillow! It looks very similar to this, except the ribbon is satin!

The price?

$19.99 $9.99!!!

Also, I’ve been wanting to DIY an LSU colored wire beaded cake server set, like this one here.

I found one in a local cooking store, but the set was $80. I thought that I could totally DIY that for less, and of course, Hobby Lobby had a plain server set for $9.99 $5! I can’t wait to figure this little craft out! :)

Have you found any great sales for your wedding lately?

I think my Gocco is saving me hundreds of dollars…seriously! DIY napkins for the hors d’ouevres, DIY STDs, DIY invites, DIY table runner, DIY aisle runner…the list goes on!! And as I look at my budget, I see my “budgeted amount” and my “actual spent” and my “amount underbudget” numbers, I realize how much DIY is saving me!!!

Curse it all, no Hobby Lobby in MD!!! But Michael’s and WalMart work for me so far, plus we have AC Moore and JoAnn and Hancock Fabrics. Can’t wait to see how you do the cake servers, I think it would be easiest to put the beads on a string and then glue to the server handle

I’ve never heard of Hobby Lobby. Is it similar to Michaels?

@Mrs. Espresso: Yes, it’s an exact copy of Michael’s, with the exception of a sewing section in Hobby Lobby. :)

I love HOBBY LOBBY!! I swear i should work there i’m there so much, we have one a few blocks from us in Wisconsin and it’s a godsend, they usually have great coupons and always have misc. things off no joke! I’ve never gone in and havn’t seen a 40% or even 70% off sticker in an aisle! Our hobby lobby has everything a michaels or joanns has plus more!

I am SOOOO excited because a new Hobby Lobby just opened up on the eastside of Michigan! Oh how I’ve missed them since moving across state! I plan on spending at least a few hours there tomorrow just waiting to be inspired!

For those of you who have never heard of them, I think comparing them to Michael’s is selling them a bit short!

The 50% off sale must be region-based because when I bring up their site for my local stores, they don’t have the bridal stuff mentioned. Oh, well! Congrats on the great finds. My local Michael’s has a lot of scrapbooking paper sets clearanced out lately! Yeah!

@Becky K.: I’m sorry…I thought it was a nationwide ad. The sale is under the “floral” section of the ad. :\

Too bad it looks like there isn’t one anywhere near my side of the country. I wish they at least had a website to shop on. :(

Hobby Lobby has been one of my best friends since moving to Omaha!

They just opened a 4th store on West Maple. My husband even enjoys coming there with me on my “acquisition” trips for projects and materials.

Good old fashioned family and worker values, closed on Sunday’s but won’t complain. It would be nice to have a website though. Wish there had been one when I lived back east. Maybe we should set up a “Virtual location exhange” for those of us lucky enough to be within driving distance!
