Mrs. Mascara's Picture
Mrs. Mascara, Chicago/Upper Michigan Age and Occupation: 25, Biomedical Engineer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Process Engineer Engagement Date: July 27, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Catholic ceremony, reception at local armory About Me: A lover of Mr. Mascara, crafting, baking, Gossip Girl, diet soda, and all things wedding. A Yooper girl somehow displaced in the Chicago suburbs, planning a wedding from a distance, and counting down the days until I marry my best friend.
About Mrs. Mascara

My future mother-in-law has been asking for a while now if we could pick out some toasting flutes for the wedding. These are items that I think only the people directly involved (the bride, groom, and whoever buys them) actually notice. But I also think that they’re items that should be displayed in the dining room after the wedding, so I wanted to make sure we really liked them.

On our wedding day, Mr. Mascara and I will be toasting with our very own Vera Wang “Grosgrain” champagne flutes (shown in the middle). Aren’t they cute?

We liked them so much that we even registered for the rest of the china set that goes with them! It will probably be the only thing by Vera Wang I’ll ever own (except maybe from the Kohl’s clothing line), but I’m okay with that.

Flutes and china by Vera Wang from Macy’s.

I know registering for china is kind of old-school, but I love entertaining. I can’t wait until we finally own our own house so I have the space to do more of it. I love that this china pattern is modern yet still classic, and will never go out of style. It’s the item on our registry that I’m most excited about!

Is anyone else registering for china? If so, did your toasting flutes coordinate?

Yes, we’re registered for china — Kate Spade’s Belle Boulevard. Our toasting flutes won’t match though — but that’s a really cute idea!

I love what you all picked out Miss Mascara! :)
My fiancee and I also registered for fine china because I also LOVE to entertain! We went a Kate Spade collection.

Miss Bruschetta - you stole my china pattern! We registered for a full set, we’ll see how much we end up with. I like to think that we’ll entertain with it and maybe use it just for fun when we eat at home!

I registered for vera’s grossgrain china too!! There are even salt and pepper shakers and napkin rings to match. I got the ‘classic platinum’ flutes rather than the grossgrain though because with the serveware, china, napkin rings, shakers (i registered for it ALL in grossgrain), I thought it might be too matchy-matchy

I was just looking at those same ones today! And I did notice the china and it made me wish we had use for it. Good choice!

Miss Mascara I registered for the same vera wang china!! I love it!!!I am soo excited about it too! I did get different vera flutes but I just love the china, are you registering for the other pieces of the set like the veg bowl and platters, napkin rings etc? I am curious because I don’t know if I want to!

Those toasting flutes are so classy! We registered for Barbara Barry’s Radiance collection and we only received 1 set! I told Mr. Espresso we’ll take turns on having fancy dinners ;)

We registered for a very similar pattern — Lenox Lace Couture and we’ve already received quite a bit of it. Our toasting flutes don’t match at all.

We registered for Kate Spade Union Street (platters, serving bowls, full china sets, salad bowls, shakers etc…) and got it all. In fact, we also registered for a casual china set for our every day use in various Kate Spade Pinney Beach & Nags Head patterns because it complimented the Union Street nicely and we got a lot of that too! It ended up working out perfectly because if we want to entertain more people than we have china sets, we can mix all the sets and have it still coordinate to some degree. Also, the best advice I ever got for china was to get a nice simple china pattern that could coordinate with a lot of pieces and then down the road if you want some variety, you can buy salad plates in other patterns to mix with your own pattern to “make it go farther”.

I registered for china too!!! And I had been thinking I was the only girl (other than my sister) who still registered for (and loved) it! I went with Lenox Tribeca and ALMOST did the Kate Spade Tin Can Alley glasses…except they were discontinued, but I found something similar at Crate and Barrel.
I’m so excited to host our next dinner party…and just remember, life is short…use the good china!

I didn’t match my flutes to any china…I didn’t even register for china. In fact I registered for regular old place settings because it’s the one thing we don’t have - matching dishes!! Driving me nuts!

vera’s grossgrain china girl here too :). I did a lenox lace couture accent plate and faberge raina glassware.

I had SO much fun registering for china. The women at the Bloomingdales Home Store in Chicago were a lot of help showing how I could mix and match the patterns. I used to love my grandma’s china cabinet as a kid. I actually enjoyed polishing the silver. I can’t wait to use it!

We registered for China too! At first we didn’t want to b/c we wanted to make sure we got the stuff we really needed, but my mom insisted we register for it to start our collection so we could add to it in the future. She even got us our first place setting for Valentine’s Day :)
We’re getting Lenox Federal Platinum b/c it was important to us that the pattern be timeless. We also have a good friend with the same china so we can have events together and share :)
The other great thing about our china is we can mix in accent plates from other line to spice it up… we’re thinking of getting accent plates from Kate Spade “June Lane” or “Road”.
Our toasting flutes are also from the crystal we registered for Lenox “Opal Innocence” which doesn’t exactly match our china, but it goes :)

I love what you’ve selected - so classy!! We were so indecisive (and ill-prepared) when we went to register at Macys, that we didn’t pick out china. After this post, I can’t wait to go back and make our final decision!! :)

Mr. Gloss has a tendency to drop things, like ALL the time….so, we opted not to register for china but I loved the Vera and Kate Spade options, and the grosgrain is so classic! You are making me re-think my decision!

I cannot WAIT to have china! I was SO excited to register for it! As I posted on my blog, my fiance does not understand my china obsession. All he wants is a big screen tv! :) I haven’t looked into toasting flutes yet…but yours are adorable!

We did not register for China. I kind of wanted to just because there was a style or two I fell in love with, but in the end, we just knew we didn’t use them. We did get the same toasting flutes as you, though, and we love them!

We’re planning on registering for china as well. I guess I didn’t realize that it’s not that common anymore. My mom has always used her fine china for holidays and special occasions, and my sister registered for (and received) a whole set of china for her wedding from some cousins.

We haven’t made a definitive decision yet, but that Vera set is one in the running!
