Card Basket?

March 21st, 2009 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Mascara

When it comes to card boxes, I only know what I don’t want. I don’t want to make a box that looks like a cake, and I certainly don’t want to buy a wooden card box that I won’t have use for after the wedding. I was thinking some kind of vase or basket for the cards would be fine. Today while browsing the sale items at CB2, I found this green side table.

Turn it upside down, tie a big purple or teal satin bow around it, and I think it has potential as a card basket. And the best part? After the wedding we can use it for its original purpose.

CB2

Does anyone have any other card box ideas? This is one of those areas where I really just don’t have a clue what to do!

I made mine out of a fabric covered cardboard box that I use to hold ribbon. I love trying to repurpose things I already have of only make new purchases of things that can be reused later like this idea. Super cute. I love CB2.

I’m planning on using a hat box that I already have. It’s Paris themed which is where we are going on our honeymoon. Also, I’ve seen some really cute mini suitcases at paper-source that I think would work well too.

Our card box will be a “card cage.” It’s a little birdcage that’s actually a candle holder so we can use it in the house after the wedding.

I too hate card boxes. I like the look of using birdcages as card boxes, there’s a great (cheap but doesn’t look it) one at WalMart that is made specifically for cards. It’s white but could easily be spray painted to your desired colors. It doesn’t look like it’s available online tho…

Pier 1 birdcage. It’s dark in color, so we’re spray painting it green and lining the bottom with paper that matches our belly bands (from Paper-Source).

We’ll probably put some millnery birds inside, for funsies.

Well, who says a card box has to be a box? You could put up a pin board, with beautiful little unique push pins, and everyone can pin their card up there and make a display for you. Unless of course your guests will be giving you money…..

we are using a vintage mailbox that i spraypainted cream. it might not be big enough if someone gets us a larger card, or there are lots of cards, but i plan to put a basket behind it in case.

Since we have kind of a outdoor/national park theme, we’re using an external frame backpack for our “card box”

I think you should weave ribbon in it. It has such a great shape!

Our centerpieces are white lanterns and when I when to buy them I noticed that they also sold larger version of the same lantern so I bought one of those for the card holder. That way it looks pretty even if nothing goes in it all night!

This post inspired me to try to make one today! I think I will be using a shoebox, felt, and buttons.

Our venue has a spanish influence and we’re having a cigar roller during the reception so I was thinking of stacked cigar boxes (attached and hollowed out) for the card box.

We’re using galvanized steel gardening buckets/pails. I think the plan is to paint what goes in them (Cards & Favors, we’ve two) on the side, though I’ve seen some lovely ones with thick ribbon around them/on the handles.
