To describe our wedding, all I have to say is YELLOW!! We wanted yellow everywhere. Yellow makes people happy, and being a fashion designer, I knew that yellow was the trending color of the season. At the time, I was designing for famed fashion store Anthropologie so I wanted a rustic, vintage look.

The vows that we wrote each other were very emotional. I was crying so hard that I was actually heaving, and could barely get my words out. I just remember that moment being so special. I’m not a person who is very good at expressing my feelings to my husband, and for the first time, I was able to pour out my heart to him.

Centerpieces, mantle pieces, and personal flowers were shades of yellow and creams. The flowers we used were peonies, ranunculus, and roses.

Our wedding was a total family affair. My brother-in-law is a pastor so he officiated the wedding, my two sisters were among the bridesmaids, and my niece and nephew were the flower girl and ring bearer, respectively.

I basically made everything! invitations, programs, alterations to bridesmaid dresses, and my birdcage veil.

I purchased all our decorations - yellow table runners, candles, and candle holders There were candles everywhere! Huge ones!! I loved it. I was basically our wedding planner, DJ, seamstress, invitation/ program designer, and, of course, the bride. I had some big shoes to fill, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I even made our table number setting board. At one point, I even had to go to the emergency room because I sliced my finger open with an X-Acto knife while cutting out invitation cards.
If I could have done something differently, I would’ve had an evening wedding instead of a day wedding. I was soooo tired, and got no sleep the night before. On top of that, there was another wedding right after ours, so we were extremely rushed. I know all brides say that they don’t remember their wedding, but ours was like a speed wedding.

My advice for future brides is to do your research and don’t be impulsive. I was so impulsive that I would buy one thing without doing enough research, and then two months later, I’d find something better. I ended up having 2, or sometimes 3 different versions of one thing. (We even had two photographers b/c I didn’t want to lose my deposit on the first one.) My brother in law kept making me fun of me, saying that I had enough ammunition to plan 3 weddings.
