A Little Shower Help…

March 22nd, 2009 @ 3:45 pm by Ms. Dahlia

My mom and I are planning a bridal shower for my brother’s fiancee. My own shower had a theme of “Around the Clock”, where guests brought gifts that corresponded with something that I would be use at that time of the day.

But we’re stuck on what to do as a theme for the shower. Her mother throws fabulous tea parties, so that is out. We’re planning on having it on a Saturday afternoon in May.

So, what was the best themed shower that you have been to?

What about a garden party theme? Not exactly sure what this would incorporate, but you could serve Pimm’s cups — very english garden partyish.

Oops, forgot this in the previous comment: http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Bridal_shower

If I ever have shower to throw, I’m going straight there because there’s lots of great inspiration.

Well, if it is the first Saturday in May that of course is the Derby. You could do an “Off to the Altar” sort of theme with everyone wearing and/or making their best Derby inspired hat. Don’t forget the mint juleps!

I’m biased, but the “shower with a twist” cocktail party that my ladies threw for me was pretty awesome :-)

Does she have any specific interests or hobbies? I’m really hopping for a kitchen themed shower since Mr.D and I like to cook a lot. All the showers I’ve been to were themeless, so I’m of little help :( good luck!

Chosing one room in a house to outfit is generally a good idea because then the bride at least has one full set of stuff.

My shower was this past weekend, and we had a bird & spring theme that was so cute! I’ll be posting details in the next couple of days. :)

I threw my sister an entertainment themed shower, but that was more the suggestion for the gifts. My sis and my bil wanted things tickets and gc to local places or even games for them to play in their new place. We just had snacky foods and played bingo and bridal scattegories, it was a blast.

Breakfast is Sister Bruschetta’s favorite meal, so we held a breakfast-themed shower (in the afternoon, though) complete with a DIY waffle station and homemade smoothies. :-)

maybe something inspired from their honeymoon? Beach theme or italian theme or tapas theme? I know theme showers are fun but I also have a soft spot for the classic shower, potluck and t.p dresses!:)

Are they going on a honeymoon? I saw on Hostess with the Mostess that they did a bridal shower based on the fact that the couple was honeymooning in Italy … and her favourite colour was yellow! So they had lots of sunflowers, delicious antipasti platters, and the main course as … gourmet pizza! Yum - you can read all about it here: http://www.hostessblog.com/2009/01/real-parties-under-the-tuscan-sun-bridal-shower/

I was just about to write this when I saw Linzerella’s comment above. :) My shower was based on my honeymoon location (part of it was in Italy as well)…my sister & mom decked things out with a fun Euro/Italian theme (vintage Italian almost). Plus, it was at a very classy italian restaurant in the Chicago area, so it helped set the theme. I loved it!! It was classy without cheesy games, etc. (which I do not like).

My shower is going to be a “breakfast at tiffany’s” theme! We are all wearing little black dresses and the food will be brunch style champagne and tea sandwiches. it should be fabulous!!!

Hmmm..these all sound fun, but my showers didn’t have any theme other than good friends and family coming together to celebrate…I mention this because I think it is important to note that you don’t HAVE to have a theme :)

you could always do a “something blue” party inspired by the “Tiffany Blue” color. There is always alot of cute stuff you could do with rhinestones and giant fake diamonds. They have cute candle holders and napkin rings and paperweights.

thank you mrs. corn! was just worrying about that — hadn’t really planned on having a theme, although we are looking at tea party places or maybe someplace in nyc’s chinatown for dim sum, which i guess some may interpret as a theme (although i think it’s just good food!)

We are doing a kitchen shower for my friend. We are renting the clubhouse at her apt building with access to a full kitchen and patio. We wont be doing the standard bridal games, but more kitchen type games. We also have one of Chefs that we work with coming to do cooking demos and have it so everyone can make their own pasta & stuff (along with pre-made apps). Im also going to get invitations from http://www.poseprints.com so we can do a caricature of her with a chefs hat and spatula!

I like doign soemthign based on interests or likes when it coems to party themes. For my sister’s we are doing a Tiffany’s theme because she loves Audrey Hepburn and her enagement ring is from Tiffany’s.

What are some of the bride’s interests?

I attended a “date” themed shower. The couple was well known for their Friday night date nights so we all brought gifts that they could use as dates in their first year of marriage - concert tickets, ski passes, gift certificates for plays, etc.

my sisters threw me an amazing Disney princess shower… ;-)
but we threw my sister a picnic-themed shower, with a picnic basket wishing well where guests brought little things like corn holders, fun plates and napkins, grill sauce, etc. Decorations were very fun, red-checked tablecloths! favors were little painted pails full of candy.

I read somewhere here on WB about “The Perfect Pair” and there were shoes everywhere decorating the place and everything basically had a shoe theme…I thought that was too cute!
