Always a Bright Side…

March 23rd, 2009 @ 5:37 pm by Mrs. Cheese

I’ve been an Eeyore lately, all doom and gloom about… everything. Chalk it up to having two months to go before our big day, but I’m feeling panic, denial, and a complete lack of motivation in equal amounts. With 60-ish days to go, I don’t feel like we’ve accomplished enough, will ever accomplish enough, or even want to accomplish enough!

After much mulling and pondering, though, I’ve remembered that sometimes (usually!) it’s all about the attitude. It’s so surprisingly easy to forget who you are as you plan a wedding, to lose sight of your priorities and preferences, to revel in the stress because at least that’s an acceptable feeling for a bride.

And me, I’m a “bright side” kind of person. At least, I am when I’m not making backup plans for worst-case scenarios.

Situation: My guy worked all weekend on a side gig that took up way more time than expected. After a long and somewhat frantic Sunday, we’re still feeling behind and unrested.

Bright side: He’s feeling good about his ability to make extra money (good money!) and the usefulness of his skills. I remembered that I need plenty of alone time to be a settled, sane person. And I’m proud of him. It may be a bit retro, but I know he can take care of our family if necessary.

Situation: I haven’t finalized our wedding invitations. They’re close, but still not quite right.

Bright side: Possibilities! Endless possibilities still abound! And I have the opportunity to decide on something that really feels right and “us.”

Situation: I haven’t ordered a bra, and thus, haven’t scheduled a fitting for my dress. I have found the shoes I will wear, but haven’t purchased them.

Bright side: Good reason to spend some time shopping online.

Situation: We haven’t done much with the trail or ceremony site.

Bright side: We know what we’re going to do and we still have time. Plus, the greener things get, the less sad and messy they look. We may pretend that we really did plan a “messy is natural” type of look. :)

Situation: The living room paint color isn’t quite right… after three different attempts.

Bright side: Painting is a great upper body workout! If I ever lose my job, I can probably find work as a painter…? The paint chip drawer has just about every color by every paint manufacturer; no need to go get them anymore!

Situation: So. Many. Details. And they’re multiplying like bunnies (or mosquitos)!

Bright side: Never a dull moment. My brain is nice and busy all the time.

There will be more installments of “there’s always a bright side” as we approach our big day.

Your turn: what’s your bright side today?

While we don’t have suits for the groomsmen, I just bought them socks, so at least they will have cute toes!!

Situation: a lot of our RSVPs are coming back as “no”… Bright side? Only the nearest and dearest will be with us on our day. What I originally wanted.

Situation: we still haven’t finalized our caterer (!!) Bright side? We aren’t committed to anything we don’t really want and are still toying with all the possibilities.

Possibilities seem to be key to these “situations.” Thanks for sharing, Miss Cheese. Good luck in the next few months.

i still haven’t gotten proofs back for my wedding invites, but i checked my spam box and instead found a week-old email from an officiant that i was hoping to meet up with and (fingers crossed) preside over the ceremony!

I’m glad you posted this because I’ve been in the dumps all darn diggity day.

Wedding-related worry:

Situation: The photographer we love is way out of budget.
Bright side: Um…we’re getting married! And that’s all that matters! We have over a year to save up $! Our friends will post pics on FB! Exclamations will make me feel better! I am determined to be cheerful!

Situation: FH’s family is being a bit unreasonable with the guest list for our wedding, and attempting to break several rules of etiquette, and stressing us both out.
Bright side: Well if we are both stressed out, that means we are on the same page. We have worked really hard to get to this place, where he and I communicate well and work through his family’s unreasonable demands, and as stressful as it is, we are doing this TOGETHER, no fighting, no anything, just a strong US!!! Situation: A close friend that we had asked to do our photos for us as an AMAZING gift had to back out becuase of health reasons….so we are back to square one with a super mini photo budget.

Brightside: I never really appointed our overall budget for specific things, SO as I deem things important…. they take money…. the rest will fall into place. And….there have been some GOOD free photo offers in the weddingbee classifieds, so I am VERY hopeful =)

Thanks for sharing Cheese, I always enjoy you’re posts!

I feel you. Currently I’m unmotivated and a little down.

Situation: The handful of miscellaneous DIY projects that are semi-finished and sort of abandoned. It feels like it’s piling up on top of each other.

Bright Side: Remind myself of the projects I HAVE finished (favors, thank you notes & ornaments) and made final decisions about like the honeymoon!

Situation: I haven’t lost the weight I’ve hoped for. I made a decision not to dress shop until I’ve lost SOME weight.

Bright Side: I have some time! And motivation for that!

Situation: MOB wouldn’t let me meet with the florist on Sunday b/c she couldn’t go to
Bright Side: Parents are paying for the wedding :)

Situation: I’m stuck at the library using the scanner when I’d rather be at home.

Bright side: I’m with Mr. Bruschetta, who’s studying at the computer next to me — and scanning in baby pictures for the wedding! :-)

Oh this is such great timing for a post!!
Situation: Dress I bought is HUGE on me (so much for “Bridal sizes”
Bright side: My workouts are paying off! And I may wear a tent to my wedding, but my bikini will look hot for the honeymoon!

Situation: I can’t work on all the little details I want to for the wedding, because I’m stuck studying.

Bright Side: In 1 1/2 months, after graduation, I have 1 1/2 months to work on all the little projects. Plus, I’ll be done with school!

Situation: we might have to postpone the wedding b/c of money.
Bright side: the money we would have spent on wedding things will be spent on our first home! That would mean less time to wait until we would get to be together every day, instead of living an hour apart like we do now.

i like your great perspective.

situation: higher cost of wedding coordinator
bright side: gain someone who can cover all the details, allowing us a feeling of security that our vision is completed.

Love this idea :) It’s so good to have a reality check one and a while

Situation: I am sooo tired of working two jobs
Bright side: We’ve saved all the money to pay for the wedding so we won’t be in debt afterwards (and I’m now working towards a new laptop :D )

Situation: I really need a sleep, vacation, a shopping spree!
Bright side: The wedding is going to be perfect and worth everything, I’ll get a long vaca through my honeymoon and once all the wedding expenses are paid I can def give myself and the FI a little something something :-)
