About Mrs. Joey

The Panel

March 23rd, 2009 @ 3:03 pm by Mrs. Joey

I’m horrible at making decisions. I think about them too long and change my mind constantly. If I didn’t have my panel, I probably would have bought 10 pairs of yellow heels before I actually made a decision — on the day of my wedding. When I was designing our invitations, I made 6 different variations of the same design and couldn’t pick between them until my panel stepped in.

The only permanent member of my panel is my friend and old roommate Katie. She and I lived together (and barely survived) at grad school in Manchester, England. We did almost everything together. She has great style and is now working at Echo in New York. I trust her to tell me the truth and I trust her style. We do everything by email and the arrangement works great.

The second person on my panel is my sister and maid of honor. She and I have totally different styles and for the most part, that’s the biggest reason she’s not consulted on every decision. Well, that and the fact that she lives in Italy, which makes instant feedback hard.

My sister is on the left

The third person on the panel is my Mom. Like my sister, my Mom and I have totally different opinions on style. I rely on my Mom for etiquette questions, food decisions and other opinions that don’t have anything to do with fashion.

The fourth person on the panel is my friend Jeremy. He’s the man on the panel that I turn to when I need to know if my choice of wedding color or invitation is far too feminine. I don’t want the wedding to be too girly. That’s not our style as a couple, but sometimes in the heat of the moment, the girly options are the cutest! Jeremy is great because he is in the middle of wedding planning too, and understands me when I’m neurotic!

Jeremy as a cow, and his lovely bride Dani!

The last person on the panel is of course, Mr. Joey. His opinion matters the most, but obviously he can’t help with wedding dress and accessory decisions. On more than one occasion we have had to compromise. We liked totally different invitation designs, and in the end went for the design that fell in the middle.

Do you have a wedding panel? Who is helping you make your big wedding decisions?

I am blessed to have a really tight group of girlfriends, who not only have good taste, but also who know me unbelievably well. They vet a lot of ideas. Of course, the mister is the key member of the “panel” but sometimes we both get into some crazy scheming and they are our voices of reason–the ones who draw the line between “neat!” and “weird.”

I am blessed with a fabulous MOH who helps me through all of my indecision or hesitations without prejudice or preference:-) She’s wonderful

Honestly, we’ve kept almost all our planning between the two of us. Part of it is living 4000 miles from our families, and part is not wanting to have any negative reactions to our ideas.

Largely though, I think we just view it as something between the two of us. Obviously the day will be all about sharing it with our friends and family, but how we want the day to be is up to us.

Which makes it really difficult for me when it comes to all the dress-related decisions … I hate not having my fiance to discuss it all with.

my panel consists of my aunt. and, well, just mostly my aunt. I should probably expand that panel…I’ve been having a hard time making decisions lately!
That’s awesome you have a whole crew to help you pick things out!

I love how you’ve phrased this “Your Panel” too cute! I guess I have one too, made up mostly of my annoyed coworkers and my MOH who can put up with my totally indecisive nature. I even have a “Simon” on my panel, who insists that a wedding need only be as expensive as the marriage license and always argues for the cheaper options!

My panel consists of my mom and Mr. G. So far, it has worked pretty well! I am super indecisive, so I need all the help I can get!
