About Mrs. Gloss

Yellow Bellied or Green Eyed

March 23rd, 2009 @ 12:23 pm by Mrs. Gloss

I debated for a long time over… you guessed it… C O L O R S .

Let me set the tone - a boat, navy blazers, bright white tablecloths/navy runners/white vases, and (insert mystery color here) flowers.

I went back and forth for about 8 months on the following question:

Kate Spade yellow OR Kate Spade green?

Yellow Bellied or Green Eyed : wedding color schemes flowers Yellowd Yellow Bellied or Green Eyed : wedding color schemes flowers Greenba

I truly could not decide. There are benefits to each color:

YELLOW

  • It’s more traditional in the ’nautical’ theme
  • There are numerous flower choices
  • It pops great with navy

Potential downsides to yellow:

  • It’s an inappropriate text color (as it’s hard to read)
  • It’s probably pretty hard to look good in a yellow bridesmaid dress

GREEN

  • It’s more of a preppy nautical color
  • I love the idea of love the green shoe for a pop of color
  • It’s easier to find bridesmaid dresses in green
  • There is more tonal diversity within the color range
  • It’s an acceptable text color

Potential downside:

  • There are fewer flower choices

Remember that I purchased these bad boys for the centerpieces (4 per table) and they will each contain a stem or two. I like to call it “Budget Chic”.

These are some of the flower varieties I am considering:

I love how the yellow centers of the white flowers help to soften the more vibrant solid yellows.

Which accent color would you choose?

My vote is for green… as you pointed out, there are less “downsides.” But, alternatively, why couldn’t you do both? White and navy with accents of green and yellow? I think it would work. Or, you could do green with just touches of yellow.

Regardless, you should go with your instinct. If your gut prefers one over the other then you should go with that. That’s the only way to truly make yourself happy! They’ll both look beautiful, I’m sure! ;-)

I would choose yellow- while it’s not the best text color I think that it just goes so well with navy and it would look great on a nautical wedding! I think that if you find the right yellow dresses it will look great. I don’t think you need to use it as a text color- why not navy text with yellow as an accent color?

Yellow! I think yellow and navy are SO happy together, and I love yellow dresses (more people can pull them off than you think, if you pick the right shade.) You can also have navy text and go with yellow in the design more, if you’re concerned about readability.
I’m all about yellow.

Yellow! It’ll give you that added pop of color to go along with the navy! :D

Yellow! I don’t think the green will be enough of a contrast with the navy.

An alternative would be pink - lots of potential flowers there!

There’s loads of navy inspiration boards out there … maybe you can find one with yellow or green to help you decide.

Wow, are weddings are pretty similar! We debated for awhile to use yellow or green as accent colors, I love both, but I think we decided to stick with just navy and blue.

With the esxception of the groomsmen ties, which we are still not sure what to do about those, wince their blazers are navy.

Thats a tough choice, I like both.

The green and the yellow are both beautiful. You should check out The Knot’s gallery of green bridal bouquets. They might help you see the potential flower choices…

Here’s a link:
http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/Bridal-Bouquets_green/results.aspx?type=3&wedding_details=Bridal+Bouquets&colors=green

They actually have more pictures of green bouquets than they do of yellow ones.

You could also consider using one as your main accent color and just working in the other color in subtly for a pop here and there.

I would choose green. You listed all the reasons I would have listed and so many green flowers come to my mind.

Have you also looked at the flower wiki (http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Flowers)? It lists a few flowers you might want to look at

Green:
* Bells of Ireland
* Cock’s Comb
* Hydrangea (year round)
* Hypericum Berry
* Kermit Pom
* Orchid (year round)
* Parrot Tulip
* Rose (year round)
* Viburnum

Yellow:
* Carnation (year round)
* Craspedia
* Daffodil (spring)
* Gerbera Daisy
* Marigold
* Ranunculus
* Rose (year round)
* Sunflower (spring, summer)
* Sweet Pea
* Tulip (year round)

I am also having a preppy New England wedding (on a lake). Our colors are navy and green with accents of yellow.
Either way, you can’t go wrong.
Have you considered navy BM dresses with either green or yellow accents (shoes, jewelry, etc?)

Yellow! I chose yellow dresses for my bridesmaids and they love it. You have to choose the right shade of yellow, but it could work. All of my ladies have a variety of skin tones as well, so I’m happy I found one that works for fair to dark skin.

I have seen a lot of yellow and blue lately. I think it will be so lovely.

AHa! This post made me smile so much because we have the exact same color schemes. We don’t have a boat, but the guys are wearing navy suits, the flowers will all be white, but I went back and forth between that exact yellow and that exact green. In the end…..I DECIDED BOTH! We are going to have 3-5 accent colors instead of two at our wedding. I’m color greedy! You have great taste! ;)

Tough call! I’m thinking yellow, but agree with JennyBryde — maybe you can use both, and lean a little more heavily on one versus the other?

And since you said there are less green flowers, here’s a few more:
*Echinacea ‘Green Envy’
*Rhyncolaelia digbyana (an orchid) http://www.tropiflora.com/creport/cr15-1/images/624-flr.jpg

I think green! :) I feel like yellow in the nautical theme has been done too many times! Green is more exciting! :)

I say yellow… there is just something so nice and fresh about a navy, white and yellow combo. I think there are so many different shades of yellow, you can pick a colour that goes well with the skin tones of your ladies for bridemaids dresses. Also, if you are worried about some of the darker yellow flowers, just do a mix of white and yellow.

OMG I’m torn!!! I do think you can use them both to compliment each other! If you have to pick one do yellow :-)

Why don’t you use navy for the BM dresses? I think that using both the yellow and green would be pretty. If I had to choose…yellow

I would use yellow, do Miss Burgundys text idea and use white and yellow flowers with green accent flowers
