About Mrs. Bruschetta

Palette-able

March 25th, 2009 @ 11:53 am by Mrs. Bruschetta

Months and months ago, where did this bride-to-be, who hadn’t yet wised up to the wonderful world of wedding blogs, go to gather inspiration and plan out her color scheme?

(source)

Uh-huh, that’s right. I dragged the mister along with me to our local home improvement store, and together, we mixed, matched and selected the brights around which our late summer wedding is based.

We had an anchor: black bridesmaid dresses. I don’t remember the first time the mental image conjured by this phrase gave me the warm fuzzies — but I do recall feeling strongly enough about it that I didn’t rethink that decision for a second.

With a strong foundation, we were quickly drawn to two “anchor” colors: orange and purple.

Spring-fresh green (you know, the color of newly-emerged leaves that unassumingly adorn branches in March, April and May, so you can still see the delicate structure of the plants?) was a natural (::wink wink::). And one more to round it out…

Anything in the pink family felt too overdone — trendy and popular. Imagine my surprise when Mr. Bruschetta offered up a suggestion: “How about red?”

And with that, our color scheme was set.

I love that our bridesmaids’ gowns will provide a blank canvas for the naturally bright, beautiful colors of late summer. Something about it reminds me of a perfectly-plated dish.

So, even though I was clueless (at first), something delicious started taking shape!

Where did you go to find color inspiration?

Mr. D and I were also in Home Depot and as he was getting supplies, I went over to the paint section and pulled a bunch of colors that appealed to me. (Mr. D thought I was crazy when I walked up with a handful of colors, I don’t think he’s ever seen me that excited in a Home Depot) Then I cut them up and played with the combinations. I discovered ColourLovers and that helped me solidify the specifics.

I too went to the the paint dept at the local home improvement store. My FI wandered into his “candy store” happily :)

I love the bright colors Miss Bruschetta! :)
I’ve always known I wanted really natural colors. Since the fiancee and I are getting married under old oak trees on the Ashley River, I wanted the colors to be mostly greens and ivories. The natural beauty of the location was my inspiration!

I wish I had gone to a hardware store. I knew exactly what I wanted my colors to be as soon as I started planning, having the right shade is hard to nail down. I think I might just have to make a trip tonight!

I was inspired by a fresh tulip laying on white linen. I knew that was my palette!! Yellow as the primary color (wink wink!!), and grass green accent with white details. I am so excited to see it all come together!

Well, for our palette, I knew I wanted to incorporate orange in there cause FI is a die-hard fan of the Clemson Tigers (their colors are orange and purple). FI has a closet full of orange clothes, let me tell ya. It’s his big day too! But I did not just want the colors to be SO OBVIOUS. I browsed online and found a cake with aqua, brown, and an orange dahlia on top. I loved it!! And then our wedding colors were born. :)

Great choice on the orange and purple though, Ms. B! My FI would be so jealous! ;)

It’s a great way to go for those of us who love color but are in no way professional about it.

Miss B, I did the same thing, only I did not have any anchor color in mind. I only knew I was leaning toward something nature-inspired.

i knew i wanted purple and yellow as wedding colors and went to home depot for paint samples, too :) they’re best for showing everyone the different hues of one color.

I DID THE EXACT SAME THING!!! Only I made several trips and have hundreds of paint chips lying around from the after math of it all. I’m surprised no one at Home Depot stopped me. I mean how many people come in three days in a row and leave with hand fuls of paint chips :) It was SO helpful to be able to mix and match at home though with all my other ideas in front of me.

p.s. I am LOVIN’ your colors… can’t wait to see more :)
