Brown Dress Plan: Week 1

March 26th, 2009 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Joey

If you think back to last week and my post about my health and weight (take a quick glance to refresh your memory), you’ll remember that I’m trying to get back to my DC healthy lifestyle.

My goals were:

  1. Spin class twice a week
  2. Eating breakfast every morning
  3. Weights and abs an hour a week
  4. Additional hour of cardio

How’d I do?

  1. Well, I didn’t make it to any Spin classes. Working late one night and an appointment with our architect the other left me without any time.
  2. Breakfast? Check!
  3. Weights and abs an hour a week? Double check! I got in about an hour of each this week.
  4. Additional hour of cardio? Triple check! Since I didn’t get to Spin class, I squeezed in 3 hours of cardio this week.

In addition, I also made it to a Yoga class and got in about 3 miles of extra walking with Mr. Joey. I picked up all the food we ate this week by walking to the store. Well, that’s a lie. We did stop at the fruit stand on Sunday for weekday snacks.

Not bad, so far.

Did you find the first week of a new health or diet plan easy, or hard?

Congrats on your successes! Still can’t wait to hear more about this brown dress…

I thought the wedding dress itself would inspire me to get my Bruschetta butt in gear. No dice. The 100 family and friends who will be in attendance? Still not inspiring me!

But this thread on the boards — http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/what-fitness-success-are-you-celebrating — definitely’s done it for me! Accountability, and others striving for the same goal? I’m there. :-) Since starting that thread, I’m getting up every morning for my workout, and feeling great!

I keep thinking about how we want to start trying to have children immediately after we get married and how I don’t want to be unhealthy as a mom. That’s been a huge motivator.

I also have my Dad that is dieting and exercising with me, and, being a daddy’s girl, letting him down would be awful!

And I put my FI’s naughty food up in a high cabinet where I can’t reach it easily unless I lug a chair out. :)

Wow girl, I admire your dedication. It sounds like you do a lot already without even doing those spin classes. I’m SO jealous…wish I had your motivation!

Personally, I find the first few weeks gosh darn easy! I have that personality type that thrives on change (sometimes to a fault!) so I find it invigorating to jump in head first…..it’s the three months down the line, when I have to try and “negotiate” with myself that I find tougher. Good for you for getting in all those work outs! You’ll have more energy for your super busy life!

Congrats on your progress. I find the hardest thing is getting started and you’ve already done that! Keep up the great work - you can do it!

Great Job Miss Joey! When I first start a new health or diet plan I usually do really well at first and then fall off the wagon. I think it is really good that you have a goal and Mr. Joey is helping by walking with you :)

It’s hard to get in the habit again. I was strangely excited and energized by my first few weeks back at the gym. It was third and fourth week that proved to be a problem.

Congrats and good luck!

I always think the first week is hardest. I’ve doen WW very successfully, but I have been trying to get back on and can’t get past the first week, once I do, I’m so on top of it though.

@JennyBryde: OMG, I’m so with you on that! I took one look at myself last year and I thought: “Could I handle gaining pregnancy weight on top of THIS? No way!”

Miss J: I got back on the wagon this week (thanks to your post!) and it’s going great! I haven’t been working out like I know I should, but the food is three checks in the box!

Great Job Miss Joey! Just stay positive and celebrate small successes! I just talked to my kickboxing instructor tonight and we decided the best way for me to feel good about my week is for me to write goals every Monday and email them to her. That way I’m accountable.

First week’s always the hardest! I’ve heard it takes thirty days to form a new habit. But once you get to that point, you won’t want to stop exercising and eating right!

I am STILL catching up on old posts :) & I love the idea of writing out a few goals for the week. Almost like reminders, as we get busier and busier as the wedding draws near. Am going to do one right now!
