London Sweets

Wowwee zowee Londoners, you guys are lucky!

London Sweets : wedding food 1 1

(Segerius-Bruce Photography via Rock n Roll Bride)

While visiting London, I found Laduree macarons in the jewelry area of the city.

I had a freakishly huge cupcake/muffin hybrid at Candy Cakes.

I passed Beard Papas and craved a cream puff (or 12).

I was in London for 2 days, but if this is any indication of the confectionery delights all over town, I can only imagine how delicious the desserts at London weddings must be. I mean, that is if you’re opting out of the traditional fruitcake wedding cake (yes my American pals, Christmas-type fruitcake).

What other non-traditional desserts have you discovered that would suit a wedding? Any London faves?

not dessert, but I always thought English crackers would be a cool fave. I studied abroad in London and would love to have those as favors for my wedding, but they are kind of expensive to buy here in the U.S.

you should try the beigel shoppes in the east end on brick lane next time you are there.

Hummingbird makes delicious cupcakes too, although it’s a self-proclaimed American-style bakery, so go figure. :-) I actually find most British desserts to be a total let down, but there’s nothing like a well-made sticky toffee pudding. If we had gotten married here in London instead of back in the States, that’s definitely what I would have wanted.

Laduree in the jewelry area–how fitting! I also love how the packaging looks like Wedgwood Jasperware! Also fitting for the London environs!!!

Well, as a British bride, I must admit to having a ordered a fruit cake for my wedding. Traditional, yes, but I LOVE fruit cake-why only have it at Christmas!?? Plus it keeps forever, and you don’t need as much per serving as its so rich. And my sis is making it so it will be guaranteed to be laced with as much brandy as possible.

But, I am also a piglet who loves all cakes and can’t make decisions, so my sister (a cake maker) is also making three flavours of cupcakes for the fruit cake-hater guests (and greedy bride). Oh yeah, and we’re having strawberries and cream with shortbread (think Wimbledon!) for dessert with our dinner.

Oink oink! Do you think that’s enough dessert??

Great post, D’Orsay. I could go on for pages about all the delicious baked good purveyors in London…mmmmmmm.

Beard Papas are so delicious! Cream puffs are my absolute favorite desert, so we’re considering a croquembouche for our wedding. Your post definitely made me hungry. :)

My mom is South African and trust me, UK/ South African fruitcake is much, much, much, better than the crappy American fruitcakes we get at Christmas…. I think the secret is freshly sugared fruit (not the plasticky stuff you see at the supermarket) and LOTS of brandy or rum to keep it moist!

Don’t criticize until you’ve tried some!!!!
