The Wedding Shoes

March 26th, 2009 @ 3:42 pm by Mrs. Gloss

My wedding shoes are a big deal for me. I have a weakness for shoes in general, and love all shapes and sizes. I decided early on that I wasn’t going to go with a traditional white shoe, and I have found a few contenders for THE all-important wedding shoe. (All flat of course, since Mr. Gloss is shorter than me).

Option #1: the RAS Satin Opera Skimmer in Mustard - for an amazing sale price of $71.39 (marked down from $215). I HAVE to buy them right? The Wedding Shoes : wedding shoes Ras Mus
Option #2: DIY Louboutin - I have always lusted after the perfectly impractical (and non-budget friendly) feathered Louboutin.

The Wedding Shoes : wedding shoes Feather But they are just feathers, right? Bright, fun, colorful feathers can be bought quite inexpensively, right? And maybe if you get them wet and wrap them around a ping-pong ball with an elastic and some fabric stiffener, they might just dry all perfectly curved to match the picture?

What do you think? Do I dare DIY Louboutins? I think I do. I would use this shoe (below) as the base shoe. They are not nearly as cute as option #1, but they are only $17 and SUPER flat (a key criteria for Mr. Gloss, since I’m already taller than him).

The Wedding Shoes : wedding shoes Soda Fl After some thought, I ended up purchasing option #1. I told EVERYONE, and was BEYOND excited I had just bought my wedding shoes. They arrived, and I squealed and ripped open the package… hmm, they were a little more ’gold’ than they seemed on the screen.

The Wedding Shoes : wedding shoes 09 0113 The Wedding Shoes : wedding shoes 09 011301 Oh well! They were still perfect, and no one would ever notice the subtle variation of color. I immediately put them on and pranced around the apartment…. and they hurt. After only 4 minutes I had bright red lines on my feet. Clearly these were not going to work out. So, I reluctantly sent them back. Stay tuned for what happened next!! (More wedding magic!)

Have you bought shoes that seemed to be SO perfect, only to be sorely disappointed?

Argh, I hear you — MOST dress shoes hurt my feet, so I’m super scared of finding the perfect wedding shoe. :-(

I’ve lusted over those Louboutin’s for awhile now! I’ve not been able to find them in the pretty champagne color I saw featured on one of my fav blogs. :(

OOOOOOH the agony of wide feet! I always have to break in shoes, even ones like canvas sneakers have to be carefully broken in. My feet are permanently scarred from pointe class and cute shoes.

I’ll be interested to see what you end up choosing. FI and I are about the same height, but I have a quarter inch or so over him and really don’t want to tower over him during the ceremony. I’m looking for cute, low heels for the party but may go with flats for the ceremony.

My first pair of yellow pumps were painful and far too high.

I lurve #2.

My dream shoes are Jimmy Choos. I’m not getting my Vera Wang so I’m getting my Jimmy Choooos. Red sandals!
I have a saved eBay search and recently found 2 invitation only boutiques that the other day had Jimmy Choo pumps originally $790 on sale for $270.
Hey we all splurge on different things right? :)

But I definitely plan on having a comfy pair for the dancing portion!

Dont worry! When I got married I wore my shoes for 12 hours straight with out any pain. I wore them to a holiday party a month later and they made my feet hurt really badly in about 1 hour! Point being that nothing is going to come between you and your perfect day. :)

I’m just waiting to be disappointed when I finally try my shoes on. I was considering DIY Louboutin’s too!

Oh! Oh! Comfy shoes. Cole Hann + Nike’s new line. I don’t like the line that’s out right now but hopefully by my wedding they will have ones I like. And, they’re dyeable.

I bought the RAS flats too, in teal. They don’t hurt my feet, but I do plan on breaking them in before the wedding date.

Those are so cute, I’m sorry they didn’t work out… it only means you are meant to find an even better pair :)

YES!! I still have decided on a pair. Even after buying and returning at least 8 pairs.

That said, I heart your yellow flats!

I bought and returned three pairs of green shoes, before I finally fell in love with a pair of beige ones from J. Crew. After delivering shoes every three or four days, the UPS guy actually asked my fiance if I knew there was a recession!

Just thought you should check these out! They look VERY similar to the Louboutin style but they’re much cheaper (around $15 USD and comfy as I’ve tried them on).

I bought the square toe pink versions of those shoes and they seem just a little bit too much for me. I’m currently testing out the 4 pairs of shoes strewn about my office and am eagerly awaiting 3 more pairs to arrive soon!

YES! I have bought shoes that after 30 mins my feet were dented in and throbbing! :(

I bought another pair to compare, but I don’t know if I can send the shoes back (may be too late?) think I could resell them?

I totally feel your pain I found the most perfect purple shoes during the Nina’s clearance sale. But instead of being to tight like yours they were to big and there was no way they were going to work. So I ended up splurging on some Stuart Weinzarts le sigh they are beautiful. I hope you had better luck the second time.
