Back Tracking: The Shower!

March 27th, 2009 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Sushi

It’ll be a while ’til I receive my wondrous wedding photos from Frank, so until then, I thought I could catch you guys up on what’s all been going on up until the wedding, and maybe a lil’ after.

Four days before we caught our plane for Hawaii, Mr. Sushi’s mom threw me… I mean us, a shower. It was a surprise shower, and unfortunately I wasn’t prepared with a camera; the few photos I have, I received from friends. I don’t have photos of the 25+ guests that were able to squeeze into her home and I don’t have photos of the AMAZING Filipino food that MIL Sushi and all her friends spent 3 days prepping and cooking. It was a good ol’ fashioned shower, with presents, family, friends, and food.

I walked in, and MIL Sushi’s house was jam packed with people. Apparently, we were a lil’ late getting there. :) Not my fault!

“Uhhh…. hi”

I hate being the center of attention; I made Mr. Sushi sit in front of everyone with me to relieve some pressure off of me. Hehe. It’s hard work opening gifts. Mr. Sushi’s son, brother, uncle, and grandfather were also present at the shower.

I got a Husband Voodoo doll. I can stick pins in him, which will supposedly make Mr. Sushi tell me he loves me, take out the trash, and kiss my arse. :)

Uh oh, looks like Mr. Sushi got a lil’ sumthin’ sumthin’ from Vicki’s.

“niiiiiiice”

And of course…the bow hat.

Can’t forget a lil’ cake. Yum!

Here’s Mr. Sushi laughing at me because I can’t cut cake to save my life.

In all honesty, I really wasn’t expecting a shower. At all. So I was SUPER excited that all these lovely women (and men) were there to celebrate with me. MIL Sushi is adorable, and I am so blessed that she (and all her friends) put this together for me. :)

Mr. Sushi’s brother is getting married in May, so I’ll be helping MIL Sushi plan a shower next month for my new SIL. I’ll make sure to have my camera ready for that one!

Were you thrown a surprise shower or bachelorette party? How did they manage to keep it a secret from you?

You too are adorable! I like that you had your FI also at your shower. I’m like you in that I don’t like being the total center of attention…occupational hazards for brides, huh?

That looks like a fun shower! I don’t even know if I’m having a bridal shower either, so a surprise would be welcome. I would be bummed if I didn’t have a camera though, that’s the only requirement for me- pictures!

What a great surprise! Unfortunately I’m terrible with surprises, I always figure them out, so I don’t think I’ll get surprised.

Haha, keeping a shower a suprise is TOUGH! I threw Sister Bruschetta’s, and Mama Bruschetta and I used to actually moan OUT LOUD when we saw on the caller ID that she was phoning us — we were so afraid we’d give it away before the event!

How sweet! I got those Libbey Martini glasses at my shower last week! It was definately difficult being the centre of attention opening presents, but hey, I was opening presents so how can I really complain. What a nice surprise for you and Mir. Sushi!

Looks like fun! My actual shower wasn’t a surprise…I picked the day but the entire theme was. I didn’t know what they were planning exactly. It was so much fun to be surprised!

So fun! My MOH told me about my shower and we discussed ahead of time simply because its for family only on a visit home over Easter weekend. My new family is a little bit tamer than my own so my thoughtful MOH wanted to make sure everyone would feel comfortable with what was being planned. I’m super excited for the shower, but like others I’m not super excited to be the center of attention. I’m thinking about how my FI stop by at the end to open gifts with me. Also, I know the games ahead of time and I’m super nervous because one is like Mrs. Springroll’s game where my FI answered questions ahead of time and I have to guess what he answered. I don’t want to look like a bad wifey to be by not knowing the answers in front of his family. That is what I’m more terrified about!
